I felt a bit guilty about how much money Sam had spent on me. We updated my entire wardrobe at the mall. After we had finished shopping, we grabbed lunch at the food court. Once we finished eating, we gathered all of my bags and headed home so I could move all of my new clothes into my wardrobe.

As soon as we got home, I ran into my room and hung up my new clothes. Just as I got done, Samantha knocked on my bedroom door before entering.

"Hey kiddo, did you get all of your new stuff put away?" she asked. She pulled back the curtains and sat herself on my bed.

"Yeah. Thank you, by the way. You spend way too much money on me," I said.

"You really don't have to thank me. It's what big sisters are for," she said with s shrug. "So, anyway, get ready. I really want you to meet our neighbors. The family has two boys. One of the boys is thirteen, but one's your age. I think you'll really hit it off."

"Are you already trying to set me up with this boy?" I laughed.

"Maybe," she said with a smirk. "Hurry up and get ready! They invited us over for dinner in an hour."

"Thanks for the short notice," I spat sarcastically.

"Hey, don't you sass me. I just found out too," she laughed, before leaving my room to let me get ready.

I changed out of the clothes Samantha had loaned me so I wouldn't have to go shopping in my ratty old clothes from the orphanage. I went through all of my brand new clothes and pulled out a Green Day shirt and black skinny jeans.  I quickly got dressed and went into the bathroom to do my hair and makeup.

I just brushed my hair, letting it fall down naturally. I thanked God that I had naturally straight hair. As for makeup, all I did was apply a bit of the new black eyeliner and mascara my sister had bought me. She bought me a whole case of makeup, which I insisted was unnecessary, but she still bought it, "just in case." She likes to be prepared for absolutely everything. Even things as small as me deciding to wear eyeshadow or blush someday.

Once I was satisfied with my appearance, I slipped on my black converse and headed downstairs to find Samantha. She was already ready. She was wearing a white floral crop top and some pink leggings. I laughed silently about how we've always been complete opposites. She's a girly girl, I'm more of a punk/tomboy. The only similarity was we were both blonde. I didn't like being blonde, but none of my adoptive families ever let my dye my hair. Sam looked beautiful no matter what she wore. I was always jealous that Samantha was so much prettier than me, but I hid it well.

She smiled and put her phone into her purse as we both walked outside. We crossed the street and she led me to the house right across from ours. She knocked a few times before an older woman with light blonde hair answered.

"Hello Donna! I'd like you to meet my sister, Lily," Samantha said.

"Hello Lily! I'm Donna Way. You can just call me Donna, of course," she said, holding out a hand for me to shake. I shook it and smiled at her. She seemed nice. "Come in, come in! Dinner's running a bit late, but it should be done in a few minutes," she said excitedly, before stepping out of the way to let us in.

I let Samantha enter first, and I followed closely behind. I looked around and took in the details of their house. It was similar to ours, although they decorated it much differently.

"Mikey! Gerard! Our guests have arrived!" Donna shouted towards the stairs. A young boy with long brown hair and glasses came down the stairs.

"Hey, Sam," the boy said, then he waved to her. "Who's this?" he asked, gesturing to me.

"Um... I'm Lily. I'm Sam's sister," I said, smiling at him. This must be the thirteen year old Samantha mentioned.

"I'm Mikey. I like your shirt," he said, pointing to the Green Day shirt I was wearing.

"Really? You like Green Day too?" I said, smiling at him.

Mikey nodded, and we talked about bands for about twenty minutes before Donna came out with dinner. Mikey seemed really cool. He knew a lot more about music than I expected, and he liked most of the same bands as me. We seemed to get along great. I silently wondered what his brother was like. He had to be cool with a little brother like this.

We all sat down and Donna set up plates of food for us. She had made chicken and mashed potatoes. It smelled and looked absolutely delicious.

"Mikey, go get your brother. Tell him dinner's ready. He needs to meet Lily. He'll love her," Donna said, which caused me to blush. She was so sweet.

Mikey nodded and walked towards a set of doors that I assumed was their basement. In a few minutes, Mikey came back, followed by a boy with medium-length black hair and the most gorgeous hazel eyes I'd ever seen. I hadn't realized I was staring at him until Samantha nudged me with her elbow and smirked. Damn, that boy was attractive.

"Gerard, this is Samantha's sister, Lily. Introduce yourself," Donna said.

Gerard just ignored her as he sat down at the table.

"I'm sorry, dear. Gerard's a bit shy. He'll warm up to you, I'm sure," Donna whispered to me.

"If you don't mind my asking, where's Don?" Samantha asked.

"He's at work. He has to work late tonight. I'm sure he'd love to meet Lily though, if you guys want to come back for dinner again in the future," Donna smiled.

"We'd love to!" Sam exclaimed.

I started eating, trying to distract myself from staring at the boy, whose name I figured must have been Gerard. By the time I finished my food, Gerard had already left, and went back down to what seems to be the basement.

"Mikey, go get Gerard again. Being shy is no reason to be rude to our guests," Donna said.

"Lily, come with me. I'll force him to meet you," Mikey laughed, and I let out a chuckle before agreeing and following him down to the basement.

"Gerard! Me and mom want you to meet Lily. I know you'll like her. She's into the same bands as us! Come meet her!" Mikey shouted, causing me to giggle. I heard shuffling and realized Gerard wasn't gonna budge.

Mikey stepped aside and told me to go down to talk to Gerard. I wasn't too fond of the idea, but I did it anyway.

"What the hell are you doing down here?" he said, finally speaking.

"Your brother told me to introduce myself. I'm Lily, by the way," I said, a bit shocked at his anger towards me.

"I know. Now get out," he snapped.

"But-"

He stood up and began walking over to me, causing me to flinch a bit. I guess I was just used to the abusive families who had taken me in over the years, so anger tended to scare me.

"I said get out," he repeated, his voice full of anger. I felt a tear escape my eye. Being yelled at was my worst fear. I always cry when people raise their voice at me. I just nodded, wiped the tear away, and went storming past Mikey and up the stairs.

Samantha and Donna were talking and laughing. Good. At least Samantha got to enjoy her time here. Eventually, Mikey came back up the stairs, and we went to play video games in his room upstairs. I kicked his ass at Mortal Kombat a few times before Samantha finally came upstairs and told me it was time to leave. We said a fast goodbye to Mikey and Donna before we left. I really liked Mikey and Donna. I just wished Gerard wasn't such a dick.

"So, how'd things go with Gerard?" Samantha asked, wiggling her eyebrows at me.

"He's a prick," I responded coldly.

"He's just a bit shy. You two will hit it off. I'm sure of it," Samantha said, but for once, I doubted her.

*~Author's Note~*

I'm sure you can tell that ages are a bit modified, because if Gerard were his real age, and he was sixteen here, that would out this story taking place in 1993. Obviously this story isn't taking place in 1993. It's actually taking place in 2004, just so you know.
