Gerard and I had been engaged for just a week and we had already been discussing our wedding. We figured it wouldn't happen for a while, but we liked to fantasize. I couldn't wait to be Mrs. Way. Mr. and Mrs. Way sounded great. "What are you thinkin' about, baby?" he asked. We were currently cuddling on the couch and he was gently playing with my hair while I was lost in thought.
"I was just thinking about what it's gonna be like to be married," I admitted. He kissed my cheek.
"I can't wait to make you my Mrs. Way," he chuckled. He reached down and started absentmindedly fiddling with my engagement ring. We still hadn't told anybody we were engaged.
"I'm gonna call Samantha and tell her that we're engaged," I said. "We should at least tell our families."
"Can we go to Mom's house after you get off the phone? I wanna tell her in person since we're neighbors," he chuckled.
"Of course we can," I giggled. I dialed Samantha's number quickly. We no longer had to deal with the pains of crappy flip phones, since it was now 2010. I put her on speaker phone so we could both tell her.
"Hello? Lily, you never call me unless it's important. Shit, did something go wrong? Fuck. I can come home now if it's an emergency," she rambled. Gerard and I started laughing.
"Sam, calm down! Everything's fine! In fact, Gerard and I have an important announcement to make," I said. I held up three fingers and counted down so Gerard and I could say it at the same time.
"We're engaged!" Gerard and I announced at the same time.
"Oh my God! About time!" she exclaimed. "God, I'm so proud of you guys. I couldn't ask for a better husband for my sister, Gerard."
"I couldn't ask for a better wife. I can't wait either," he said.
"And I couldn't ask for a better husband," I added.
"You guys are too cute," Sam cooed. "So much has been happening lately. What else did I miss?"
"Jamia's pregnant," I said.
"What? Really? Oh my gosh! I'm so happy for her! Give her a big hug for me!" Sam exclaimed.
"I will," I giggled.
"Shit. I've got to go now. The boss is calling. I love you both! Keep me posted on your wedding plans!"
"We will. We love you too, Sam," I said. Then the call ended.
"What if we called everybody over instead of going to all of their houses? Wouldn't that be more fun?" Gerard asked.
"Yeah. It would!" I exclaimed. So that's what we did. We both pulled out our phones and began calling all of our friends. He also called his parents and Mikey and invited them over. His parents and Mikey were the first to arrive, since we were neighbors. They hugged us both and came inside. The other guests arrived soon after, and once everybody was here, Gerard and I stood on the coffee table to make it more dramatic.
"We have something very important to tell all of you!" I announced. I counted down from three again.
"We're engaged!" we announced at the same time. Everybody started clapping.
"About fucking time, man!" Frank shouted, earning a glare from Gerard's parents. The girls hugged me tightly.
"I fucking told you you'd be Lillian Mae Way soon!" Jamia shouted.
"I'm not Lillian Mae Way yet," I retorted.
"But you will be soon," I heard Gerard's voice say behind me. I jumped because I didn't know he was behind me.
"Jesus Christ, babe. You scared the shit out of me," I exclaimed. He laughed.
"Sorry babe," he said, wrapping his arms around my waist and hugging me from behind. I kissed his cheek as he rested his head on my shoulder.
"When's the wedding? We need to plan a bachelorette party!" Taylor joked.
"We'll cross that bridge when we get there," I giggled. I didn't want a bachelorette party, but I didn't have to worry about that yet.
"We still need to discuss our wedding plans," Gerard whispered to me.
"Gerard, it's been a week. We'll be fine," I giggled.
"Excuse me for being impatient to marry you," he scoffed playfully. I rolled my eyes and giggled again.
We resumed the party for a while before everyone went home. We got one last round of congratulations before everybody left.
"I'm so glad we're engaged," Gerard said.
"Me too. I couldn't be happier."
