The beeping filled the room and I felt my breathing become heavier and heavier. The doctors rushed over to him to try and calm his heart down. Nothing seemed to be working. His eyes shot open and suddenly the beeping began to slowly calm down.

I felt a weight lifted off my shoulders as I saw his eyes open. Maybe I wasn't gonna lose him after all. I noticed he was still breathing heavily.

"Gerard baby, it's just us! Calm down," Donna said, rushing over to comfort him. I saw his breathing began to steady.

"Mom? W-where am I?" he asked.

"You're in a hospital, Gerard. You... Um... You tried to kill yourself," Donna explained.

He looked away from her.

"It was my fault, wasn't it? I haven't been a good mother. I left you alone all of those times I'd go to visit your father. I neglected you. Oh my god," she sobbed. Samantha came over to her and hugged her.

"Mom, no! It's not your fault. You never neglected me. You're the best mom ever," Gerard said. Donna smiled a little bit at his response but continued crying anyway. Samantha pulled away from hugging her.

"It was probably my fault," I murmured quietly.  I guess it wasn't quiet enough, though, because Gerard's head shot in my direction. I was expecting him to come up with some bullshit excuse about how it wasn't my fault, but instead he sajd nothing. That hurt. Maybe it was my fault. He continued to ignore my presence the entire time.

"We're gonna let you two catch up. Come on, Lily," Samantha announced. She must have been able to see how uncomfortable I was. As we left, I felt a few stray tears fall from my eyes. Was it really my fault? Samantha wrapped her arm around me.

"It's not your fault, you know. He's just a little overwhelmed right now, I think. He'll be back to you. I know it," Samantha said, attempting once again to comfort me. I just shrugged and got into the car. She followed behind me and I flashed a small smile at her.

I turned on the radio and turned on the last CD we had heard in the car, which was American Idiot. She smiled as she realized I was feeling good enough to hear music again.

We were both singing along when we got home. We started laughing for no reason at all as we walked into the house. "What are we laughing at?" she asked between giggles.

"I have no fucking clue!" I said. We both started laughing again. I think we were both so happy to finally be happy, we were laughing at everything.

"You should invite Jamia or your other friends over tonight. You deserve a big girls' night to take your mind off of this shit," Samantha suggested once she had stopped laughing.

"Really? I'd love that!" I said excitedly. She let out a chuckle and nodded. I ran upstairs to go call my friends.

I called Jamia first. It rang three times before she answered it. "Hey Jams! Do you think you could sleep over later tonight? My sister said I could have a girls' night!" I cheered.

"Definitely! I'll be there!" she squealed. "I have to go shopping with Frank first, but I'll be over later for sure! How's 7:00 PM sound?" she asked.

"It sounds perfect! See you then!" I said. She let out another squeal and then hung up. I was happy she was so excited. I tried to invite Taylor and Hayley, but they both had other plans. Oh well, at least I had Jamia!

I ran downstairs and noticed Samantha had opened the curtains on the big window at the front of our house. It was nice to have some sunlight in here. I noticed Donna's car was in their driveway, which meant Gerard was probably home too.
