Chapter 1

NuNew is awoken by people talking. Slowly opening his eyes he sees his parents as well as Max's father. " Good morning NuNew " he hears Zee say. Only then does he realize that his head is on Zee's lap. He sits up his face a light shade of pink. Embarrassed that his parents have seen him asleep on Zee's lap. Zee easily guessing what he's thinking laughs quietly. When he does it catches his parents attention. " Oh NuNew you're awake. How are you feeling " His mother ask. He turns to look at his mother who is now standing at the side of the bed. She puts her hand to his forehead to check his temperature. " You're a little warm but not burning up anymore. That's good. I think sleeping for a while helped ". He looks at her a little confused. He looks over to the clock and sees that it's 12:30 pm. His eyes widen and in a tired voice he says " Did I really sleep from 7pm to now ". He turns to look at Zee. " You could have left once I fell asleep Hia ". Zee laughs before saying. " How could I when you held on to me so tight. I did try to get up at one point when the doctor came but you started to hold on to me tighter ". His face turns a bright red. He hides his face in his hands. Whispering he says " so embarrassing ". His mother laughs and says " You are so cute when flustered NuNew. Can you easily fluster him Zee " His mother asked. He looks at her and shouts " Mom! Don't ask that ". Everyone in the room starts to laugh while he just pouts. Zee just pulls him to lean down on his chest. " My head hurts a little and so does my sides " he says looking at his mother. She gives him a small smile. " I'll go find the doctor and let her know ". He nods and tells his mother thank you. He looks at his father as well as Max's father. " I'm sorry for shouting at you both yesterday. I got mad really quickly and didn't even listen to why you guys thought about not letting me talk with the investigators today ". He looks down. " Me and your father both understand why you got angry. You want them put in prison as quick as they can. We didn't think about how you could still be afraid that they could hurt you. I'm sorry we didn't consider that possibility " Max's father says. " I don't want to see you react like you did when Max's dad was interviewing you. It makes me nervous to see my son that scared ". He looks back at them. " I'm sorry I didn't think about how you'd feel. Thank you for worrying though ". Just as he finishes talking the door opens and the doctor comes in. " Good morning NuNew. I came last night but you were asleep so I didn't check up on you that much. I figured you needed as much rest as you could get ". He Nods a little shy that the doctor has seen him clinging on to Zee. " Your mother told me that your head hurts as well as your injuries ". He nods his head. " My chest hurts more than my head. I think I just have a headache and that's why my head hurts ". The doctor checks his temperature. " You don't have a fever which is good. Can you sit up so I can look at your bruises ". He nods. " Is it ok for my to touch your chest. I know you're doing better then before but I still want to ask before I do ". He bites his lip hesitating. Whispering to himself he says " It's ok NuNew. The scars don't hurt when people touch them like they used to. It's just the bruises. It's fine ". He takes a shaky breath and grabs ahold on Zee's hand. " You can " he says quietly. The doctor gives him a gentle smile while putting some gloves on. " Can you point to where it hurts the most ". He nods and points to his lower ride stomach. " It hurts the most here. Nate kicked the hardest here ". The doctor nods before slowly touching around the bruise. He flinches when he feels a sharp pain. He's holding back his tears as the doctor feels around not just the main bruise but as well as the other bruises along his stomach and chest. He bites his lip so hard it starts to bleed. When the doctor stops touching his bruises he lets out a shaky breath. He wipes away the few tears that fell. " Your bruises are hurting a little more because they have fully appeared so they are sensitive to touch. Bruises take around 1 to 2 days to fully appear. That's why they turned a darker color then they originally were. Besides taking medicine to help the pain you should just be carful for a couple weeks. Other than that you are all good to be discharged from the hospital like your other friends ". He tilts his head a little confused. " Please give me your hand ". He gives her his hand. " They're already discharged ". The doctor smiles. " They have just started the process to discharge from the hospital. Before I came here I was with them. You are now able to leave as well. Since you are doing a lot better ". He nods. " What about the Iv " he asked looking down at his hand. He's surprised when he notices that it's gone. " Keeping the patient distracted " he says laughing a little. He looks up to the doctor. " Thank you for everything Doctor. Thank you for being patient and understanding with me ". She gives him another smile. " Thank you for being as brave as you are ". He smiles and watches as she leaves. " I like her she's a kind doctor " he says to Zee. " Oh about last night, thank you for saying the things you did and for staying with me. I think I didn't let you go because for the first time I was able to close my eyes and not feel afraid ". Zee smiles at him and nods. He then turns to his father. " When do we talk with the investigators so I can be a little prepared " he asked a little nervous. His dad gives him an understanding smile. " We all are going to head back to the house and grab everyone's things first. After that we will head to the station and talk with them.So around a hour or two is when everyone will talk with them " Max's father says. He smiles a little. He's not going to tell them but he's terrified. Not only terrified of talking with the investigators but terrified to go back to the house as soon as they are. " Here's some clothes for you NuNew. I just got you discharged " he hears his mother say. When he looks up he sees her in front of him. He gives her a small smile. " Thank you mom " he said as he grabbed the clothes. He then slowly gets off the bed and stands up. He grabs his side when he feels a sharp pain. His mother goes to help him but he just gave her a small smile. " I'm ok mom. Don't worry ". He sees the uncertainty on his mothers face. He pulls her into a hug. " I'm really ok. Im not as bad as I was before. You must have been terrified when you got the call. I'm sorry I put you through that again ". He can hear his mother crying. He pulls away from the hug and wipes his mothers tears. He smiles at her. He feels extremely sorry that he's put his parents through this not once but twice. " Please don't cry. You look more beautiful when you
Smile mom " he says trying to cheer her up. Thankfully he did and she smiles. " I have such an amazing son " his mother says pulling him into another hug. He just laughs. " I have amazing parents ". Everyone laughs. " Stop flattering us and go get dressed " his mother says laughing. He just smiles and walks towards the bathroom that's located in the room. Once inside and the doors shut his smile falls immediately. He's going to act strong in front of everyone. He can't let them know he's terrified.
He walks over to the mirror and looks at himself. It's the first time he's able to clearly see his bruises. It's a lot worse then he's originally thought. Whispering he says " Don't cry NuNew. We have to be strong. It's ok. We got this. Be strong NuNew ". He closes his eyes and takes a shaky breath. After a little while he changes into the pair of shorts as well as a black shirt sleeved shirt. Once he's done changing he looks into the mirror again. He takes a deep breath before putting on a fake smile. Once's he's ready he picks up the hospital clothes and heads outside of the bathroom. Once he does he sees that everyone is now in the room. Smiling he says " Good morning everyone. Sorry I took long ". Everyone smiles back at him. " No worries NuNew, your hurt ". He nods before putting the hospital clothes on the bed. " Ready to go " his mother asked. He just nods so everyone leaves. Him and Nat are walking with everyone in the back of their large group. " You're terrified. Why are you acting like everything's ok. If you're scared then tell them " Nat says so only they can hear. He lets out a frustrated sigh. " This is the one time I wish you couldn't read now I feel " He whispers. Nat just links his arm with his. Quietly he says " Please don't tell the others. They are already worried about me a lot ". Nat just looks at him a little sad. " I won't but if something happens then I'm going to tell them " Nat says whispering. He just nods accepting what Nat said. " Thank you Nat. Really, thank you ". Nat just smiles at him. When they get back to the cars they make him ride with his parents and Max's father. He's a little frustrated that they make him because he will have to listen to things related to Nate and the others.
The car that he's in is the first to head towards the beach house. The drive takes 15 minutes so he leans his head against the window and closes his eyes. Trying to block out the sounds around him.
