Chapter 4

TW: Mentions of vomit , knifes and injures

NuNew follows Mr.Ive back to the front of the station. He wishes that Mr.Ive would hurry up and walk faster. As soon as he sees Zee and they make eye contact he starts to cry. Zee having noticed walks over to him quickly. They meet each other half way. Zee immediately pulling him into a hug. However they didn't get to hug long as Mr.Ive says he's going to take Zee , Jimmy and Net for interviewing at the same time. He doesn't let go but he knows he has to. When he pulls away from the hug Zee says " Stay with Max and Nat. I'll be out as quick as I can ". He nods before slowly walking towards Max and Nat. He wipes his tears. His hands are shaking a little bit. He hasn't fully gotten over the interview. Nat makes him sit between him and Max. He's trying to stop himself from crying again but as soon as Max pats him on the shoulder he breaks down. No one says anything as they watch him cry. Nat pulls him into a hug. He grabs on to Nat's shirt and holds on to it tightly. He can't get himself to say anything. " You did an amazing job. I don't know what happened in the interview but you made it through it. You did a good job " Nat says reassuring him. He pulls away from the hug and looks at him. Nat just wipes away the tears from his face. " I'm sorry it was scary " Nat says. He just turns and looks at his hands. In a whisper he says " They made me look at the photos. When I looked away she played the video from the hospital ". Max grabs his hand and squeezes it. He continues talking quietly saying " I was drenched in my own blood. They had photos that I've never seen before ". He brings his hand up to his large scar. " I don't want anyone to see those photos. Seeing those photos knowing that someone got so hurt like that is horrible. But knowing that it was me. Knowing that it's someone who you know ". He covers his mouth as the photos appear in his mind. He quickly stands up and rushes to the bathroom. When he gets into a stall he pukes into the toilet. He's disgusted by how much blood there was in those photos. Tommy is the first one to reach him. He kneels next to him and pats his back gently. Once he's done puking he just brings his legs up to his chest. He then lays his head on his knees. " P'Tommy I'm scared. I don't want you guys to see those photos " he says quietly. " It's going to be ok NuNew. Can you drink some of this water for me ". Tommy hands him a glass of water. He quickly drinks it. Tommy then helps him stand up and walk back to his seat. Once he's sat down Max has him lean his head on his shoulder.
Around 20 minutes later Zee, Jimmy and Net all walk out. Mr.Ive then has James, Tommy, Max and Nat follow him. Zee trades spots with Max. While Jimmy sat where Nat was previously sitting. He sits up and looks at Jimmy. He can tell that he's seen the videos and pictures. He can see the way the three of them are trying to be strong. " If I'm being vulnerable and showing you guys how I feel. Then you shouldn't hide how you feel after seeing the videos and pictures. They're fucking horrible. No one would be ok after seeing them. Even if they don't know who that person was " he says quietly. He turns to look at Net. He notices how he looks at where his scar is. " It doesn't hurt anymore P'Net. It's healed well ". He then looks at Zee who's in his own head. Knowing how much Zee loves him he can only guess how hard it was to see him like that.
He doesn't talk anymore. He just looks down at his hands. He stays this way for around 2 hours before he feels someone shake him. " We can go now NuNew " Zee says and he just nods. He stands up and walks to Zee's car. However when he sees Zee get in the back while his dad and mom get in the front of the car he's a little confused. " We decided to do this so you can rest a little. The only time you have slept well was when I was with you. You need sleep
NuNew " Zee says gently. He just nods and doesn't say anything. Zee has him lean on to his chest. Zee then wraps his arms around him in a tight but comfortable embrace. " Try to get some sleep. We have a long car ride back to the school. We will get there around 7 am ". Agreeing that he needs sleep he closes his eyes and tries to fall asleep. He stays like that for around 5 minutes before he can finally fall asleep. And when he does fall asleep he sees nothing. It's just him alone in the dark.

" NuNew it's time to wake up. We're at the school ". He slowly opens his eyes and looks up to see Zee smiling at him. He slowly sits up rubbing his eyes. He looks outside to see everyone standing together talking. Taking a deep breath he gets out of the car and walks over to them. Zee follows behind him. He makes his way over to his mother and hugs her. She hugs him back. They don't say anything to each other and he's glad. He doesn't remember the last time he's hugged his mother like he currently is. Eventually he stops hugging her and listens to the conversation that's happening. " While Max, Nat and NuNew talk with the doctors about their conditions, the rest of us will talk with the principal and let them know about everything and how you guys will need to be excused from classes for a couple of days in 2 weeks for court. NuNew will definitely be called up as a witness as well as Nat and Max. As for everyone else I'm not sure who will be called up as a witness during court ". He regrets listening in on the conversation so he looks over to his mother and asks " Can I have my phone please. I think I'm just going to head over to the nurses office. I don't want to listen to this conversation right now ". His mother gives him a gentle and understanding smile and hands him his phone. She then looks over to Nat." Nat can you head to the nurses office earlier then planned with NuNew " she asked. Everyone's attention turns to them. " All three of us can head there earlier. He will probably have questions we need to answer. Which could take a while " Max says. All three of them grab their things before heading to the nurses office. " Thank you for coming with. I just didn't really want to hear the conversations about court right now " he says quietly. Both Max and Nat tell him it's no problem. When they enter the school everyone starts to look at them and whisper. He takes a shaky breath. He's expected this to happen when he saw that someone posted the video from the beach. But it doesn't make it any less nerve wracking. When they get to the nurses office and the door closes he takes a deep breath. Calming himself down a little. " Welcome back you three. The doctor mentioned you'd be coming by. He said he wants to look at Max's injury first since it's the more serious one. All of you can go sit down in the back. Max please sit on the bed while I get the doctor " the nurse says. They all listen to what she says and head to the back room. Once in the back Nat sits on a chair while max sits on the bed. " why don't you sit down NuNew " Max says. He just shakes his head. " I've been sitting for too long ". Max nods. " Sit down of your bruises start to hurt a
lot ok " Max said. He nods. Shortly after the doctor comes in. " Max how are you feeling? Any sickness or pain " the doctor asked. " I don't feel sick but there is some pain ". The doctor walks over to a table and puts some gloves on. " Can you take your shirt off for me Max? I need to clean the wound and re bandage it ". Max does as the doctor says to do. He looks at what the doctor is setting up. " NuNew you're in my medical class right " the doctor asked while still setting up the supplies. " Y-yes Dr.M " he says nervously . Not understanding why he asked. " Were you there for the lesson on stab wounds? Or was it before you joined my class ". He thinks for a little while before he says " I came at the very end of the lesson. My first day was when you were teaching us how to bandage a puncture wound ". He looks at Nat and Max nervously. Trying to see if they can guess why the doctor asked him. " I'm going to give the three of you a lesson about stab wounds while I clean Max's wound " the doctor says as he begins to take off the bandages on Max's lower stomach. " When someone gets stabbed you should never pull out the knife. If you pull the knife out it has a chance of worsening the injury as well as cause someone to bleed out ". When the doctor says the last part he realizes just how dangerous it was when Max got stabbed by Tyler. " If the knife is pulled out you should immediately tie something around the area of the stab wound tightly in order to help slow the bleeding down ". He looks over to Max and sees that the doctor has finished taking off the bandages. He looks at Max's stitched up wound and immediately regrets it. It's the first time he's actually able to see it.
