Chapter 17

TW: mentions of blood

NuNew's having a nightmare. He knows he is because he's had this nightmare for far to long. He's just walking in a long pitch black building. He feels like he's been walking for hours. There's been no sound besides his echoing footsteps. That's how it always was. Until now.
He can hear another pair of footsteps walking with him. Making him stop and look around. " Who's there " he says loudly. He hears laughter coming from behind him. One that sounds exactly like Nate's. So he quickly runs as fast as he can. Trying to get away from him. He doesn't know how long he's run for but he only stops because he trips and falls. When he looks down at himself he's covered in blood. He shakes his head. There's so much blood on him and around him. His body starts to shake when he sees Nate walking closer and closer. He doesn't say anything he's just laughing at him. He doesn't move as Nate walks to him. His eyes widen when he feels Nate grab on his shoulder and start to shake him. He wants to scream but can't.
" NuNew wake up. You're having a nightmare " he hears someone say. He opens his eyes immediately and sees Zee looking at him concerned. He quickly gets off of the bed and heads into the bathroom. Turning the sink on he scrubs at his skin again. Zee walks into the bathroom and gently grabs onto his wrist. That's all it takes for him to stop crying. Zee pulls his hands out of the sink before turning it off. He then grabs a wash cloth and dries his hands off. The simple gesture helping him know that he's awake and not in the dream. Calming him down.
When he's stopped crying he says. " I was running away from Nate. He wasn't saying anything. I ran for so long until I tripped. When I looked down there was so much blood. He got so close to me " he says. Zee wipes away the dry tears from his cheeks. " It's ok. The nightmares over. You're safe now " Zee says. He nods before hugging Zee. He hugs him back. Zee then says " It's almost 10:00 how about we get dressed and then go into the living room ". He nods his head. Zee then walks over to the desk and picks up his outfit. Bringing it to him. " While you get changed in the bathroom I will get dressed out here ok " Zee says gently. He nods and thanks Zee before closing the bathroom door. He changes into his outfit. He tuck's the sweater into his pants. He also puts a black belt on. When he finishes changing into the outfit he looks in the mirror. He smiles a little. The outfit July picked out looks good.
He's pulled out of his thoughts when there's a knock on the door. " Are you done changing NuNew " Zee asked. He opens the door instead of answering. He sees Zee check him out. " D-does it look good " he asked nervously. Zee smiles before saying. " You look really good in that outfit. Almost want you to change so others want to see " Zee says lightening the mood. He just laughs before lightly hitting Zee's shoulder. " What do you think of my outfit " Zee asked. He smiles while saying " You look really good as well Hia " he says laughing a little. Zee says thank you before they both make their way out into the living room. Once they get there they see everyone else. They're all dressed up like him and Zee. " You look so good NuNew " Nat says making him smile. " Thank you Nat. You look good as well ". He hears Zee laugh before he says " You'll never guess who helped him choose his outfit ". He quickly covers Zee's mouth. " Hia I'm warning you ". Instead of listening to his warning Zee pulls out his phone and plays the video he took of him last night. He tosses his phone to Max who's not to far from them. " No ". Max watches it and says " July picked out your outfit for you ". His face is bright red. " So what if she helped me! She's got better taste in clothing then you " he says sticking out his tongue. Everyone laughs before his mother says " July would always help him choose an outfit whenever we were going to any events ". His eyes widen. " Mom! Why did you have to tell them that " he said pouting. He hears Net laugh so he turns to look at him. " Laugh again I dare you P'Net ". Net closes his mouth right away. " And once again scary NuNew strikes again " Tommy says. He shrugs his shoulders.
Before anyone else can say anything Max gets a phone call. He hands Zee his phone back before answering the call. " Ok, we will open the door ". He hands up the phone and says " My dads going to knock three times and then we need to open the door " he says. Shortly after they hear the knocks so Jimmy opens the door and then quickly shuts it once Max's dad is inside. It hasn't hit him that court is today until just now. He takes a step back accidentally bumping into Zee. " S-sorry " he says stuttering. Still facing forward. Zee wraps his arms around him. Trying to comfort him. He bites his lip. " When we leave there will be guards that will stay and keep an eye on your house. The first car is here and that's for NuNews parents. Since you need to stop and pick some people up. Outside there are two guards to guide you to the cars while several other guards make a path for you " Max's dad says. His parents say goodbye to him and everyone else before quickly leaving the house. " Next we have everyone except Max, Nat and NuNew leaving in the next car ". His hands go up and quickly grabs onto Zee's arms a little hard. Zee doesn't react to him grabbing onto his arms. " Is it ok if I ride with you guys there as well to help NuNew stay a bit calm " Zee asked. Max's father says " That's fine. It will be you guys and Nat in the back while Max is up front with me ". He can feel himself relax a bit more. Loosening his grip on Zee's arms. Not to long after there are another three knocks on the door. " The second car is here now. Same deal. There are two guards who will guide you guys to the car ". They all say goodbye to them as they leave. The door then closes. He realizes that it's his turn next to go outside and he becomes nervous. After what happened last time he doesn't know what to expect. " It'll be ok NuNew. I'm going to be right with you the entire time. I'll keep my arm around you while walking to the car ok " Zee says gently before wrapping his arm around his lower back. Pulling him close to his side.
There is then another set of three knocks. " Are you guys ready. NuNew " Max's father asked. Taking a shaky breath he says " No but I know we need to do it " he says quietly. Max's father nods before opening the door. Max and Nat walk out first. Then Max's father. Lastly it's him and Zee.
Keeping his promise Zee holds him close to his side. Wrapping his arm around his lower back. When the media sees him they start shouting at him and trying to get to him. Making him extremely nervous. Zee keeps telling him that they are almost to the car. When they get there he quickly gets into the car and scoots into the middle of the backseat. He grabs on to Nat's hand. Zee gets in quickly after him. Once Zee is sat down and the car door is closed they take off towards the court house. He turns around and looks back at their house. " T-there's cars following us " he says stuttering. " NuNew keep looking forward ok. Those are news vans " Max says. Max's dad calls someone on the phone. " There's news vans that are following us. I need people to be prepared when we get there. We will be there in 13 minutes " Max's father says before ending the call. " I'm going to be honest. There are a lot more people there then yesterday. With that being said. We have guards that have made a pathway for you guys to walk through. Once inside you should meet with everyone else ".
He takes a shaky breath trying to calm himself down. Both Zee and Nat are holding on to his hands. Giving him some sort of comfort.
When they arrive to the courthouse there are people everywhere. When Max's dad parks at the entrance guards surround the car. Nat is the first one to exit the car. Then Max and Zee get out of the car. Zee holds his hand out for him to grab but he's terrified by the amount of people. Max's father says " It's going to be ok NuNew. Nothing like yesterday will happen. Not with how many guards there are " in a gentle tone. He nods his head before slowly grabbing onto Zee's hand and climbing out of the car. Zee almost immediately wraps his arm around his arms. Pulling him close to him as they walk up the stairs. There's several flashes of cameras. At one point he hears loud shouting so he turns around to see guards holding several men down on the ground and he freezes. The guards tell them to hurry but he's scared. Zee has to forcefully pull him inside the court house quickly. Once they get inside several guards surround everyone in their group. He doesn't realize that he's shaking a lot until he hears someone call his name. " NuNew, of dear what happened ". He looks over to see Mrs.Betty walking towards him. " T-they " is all he could say so Zee finishes his sentence for him. " A group of men tried to rush at us so the guards told us to get inside quickly ". Mrs.Betty grabs his hands gently. " Oh you poor boy. Look how much you're shaking. I saw what happened yesterday. You've been through so much since I last saw you a couple of days ago " she says pulling him into a hug. He hugs her back. When she pulls away she grabs something from her pocket. " I have a necklace for you to wear NuNew. It's a chain with a Rhodonite crystal attached to it. This crystal will help reduce your anxiety and help you feel more secure and calm ". She says as she puts it on him. " Thank you Mrs.Betty " he says quietly. " No need to thank me dear. I also just noticed that you have an amethyst bracelet on. A very good choice for you. You even put it on the correct wrist " she says. He smiles a little bit. " I bought one for me and Nat while at the beach ". he says while Nat walks over to them. And shows that he's wearing it as well. " I always remind him of it when things get rough for him " Nat says smiling. " That's a very good job dear. It's good that you remind him. He can be quite forgetful sometimes " She says.
When Max's father gets to them he says " Unfortunately this is when we have to separate from you guys for the trial. While a few guards come with us to a separate room, the other guards will guide everyone else to the court room where the trial is being held ". He bites his lip nervously. " You're going to be ok dear. You got this " Mrs.Betty says while giving his hands a gentle squeeze. He nods slowly before turning to Zee and hugging him. " You can do this. Remember you aren't alone. Max and Nat will always be there with you ok ". He nods. Before turning to Nat and holding his hand out. Nat grabs a hold of his hand and they walk over to Max and his father. They then head into a room that's to the left of the court room that the trial will be held in.
Once inside they meet with Mrs.T and Mrs.F. " How are you doing NuNew? I saw what happened yesterday " Mrs.T asked him. He shakes his head. " I'm sorry, is there anything I can help you with to feel better ". He shakes his head no again before quietly saying " It's a mental thing. I can still feel the animal blood on me when I know it's not there ". He can feel Nat gently squeeze his hand to comfort him. " I'm sorry to hear that. The man who did that to you was put into jail ". He nods his head.
When he hears the door open behind him he quickly turns around pulling Nat behind him. However when he sees that it's another court room staff he relaxes a bit. He turns around to look at Nat. " Are you ok. Sorry for pulling you like that I ". Nat interrupts him. " You did it again. You'd still do that. Even after everything. You still would protect me first before yourself " Nat says quietly. It's silent in the room for a while. Everyone's waiting for his response. Eventually he says " I would do it because I failed once. I won't fail again. I won't let you guys get beat up because of me " he turns to look at Max. " Or stabbed because of me ". He looks back at Nat. " I refuse to see you guys get hurt because of me again. Once was to much for me to handle " he says quietly. " Do you still blame yourself " he hears the unknown court room staff ask. He looks at them and says " If I'm honest, I am sir " he says quietly. He watches as the person turn to Mrs.T and says " Make sure you bring that up in this case. It shows that he is not just effected physically but mentally as well ". He sees Mrs.T nod and say " Yes Judge ". His eyes widen.
" J-judge " he stutters. The judge nods. " I don't have my robe on yet so you couldn't tell. I would also like to apologize for scaring you when I came into the room " the judge says as he smiles at him. He shakes his head. " I'm just on hyper alert right now " he says quietly. The judge nods his head before saying. " It's time for you guys to enter the court room. The cameras are already filming and the people watching are all sat down. Once you all sit down we will bring in the other people " the judge says. The three of them nod their heads. Max walks over to them. " Are you guys ready " he asked the both of them. " As ready as I could be in this situation " he says quietly. Max pats his shoulder gently. They then make their way into the court room through a door in the room that's connected to the court room. They are directed to the first table when they walk in. He can hear everyone become silent in the room as they enter. He holds onto the crystal necklace Mrs.Betty gave him. When they sit down at the table the order is Max's dad, Max, Nat and then him. He bites his lip nervously. He slowly moves his hands and puts them on to the table. He looks down at his hands and notices that the bruising has become darker.
His attention is pulled away from his hands when he hears the door they came through open again. He quickly turns to look at the door.
