Chapter 19 ( Long Chapter )

" Attorney please start to present the rest of the evidence " the judge says. Mrs.T nods before saying " After NuNew was healed enough to go back to school his parents sent him to a boarding school located 4 hours away from Bangkok. There he met Nat who became his roommate at the school. Nat became his first friend in years. Through Nat he met everyone else in his group of friends. If you look at the screen I have pictures that show how he was starting to heal. He was learning how to be a normal teenager ". On the screen was a picture of their whole group after they got their hoodies. There is also photos of him and Nat on Max and Zee's shoulders. She then plays the video of Zee picking him up and running into the water. You can hear him laughing as well as everyone else. When the video ends Mrs.T says " The pictures and video I just showed you were all taken the day before the second attack with Nate happened. When talking with the investigators NuNew said that day he felt like he could let his guard down. He said that he can let himself have all the fun he wanted without worrying about Nate hurting him or his friends. He said that his biggest fear would be his friends getting hurt because of him. He thinks that it would be his fault if they got hurt by Nate and the others ". She points to the screen. " I want to walk you all through the video of what happens at the beach ". She presses play and you can see when Nate walks over to them clapping. You can see him instantly pull Nat behind him when he turns around to see Nate. Mrs.T stops the video. " NuNew's first reaction to seeing Nate is to hide Nat behind him. No matter how much he has been traumatized by Nate and his friends he makes sure that Nat is safe before himself " she says before playing the video again. It shows him backing away as Nate gets closer. It also shows Tyler sneaking up behind him. As they try to run it shows Tyler pulling Nat away and how he instantly goes back and try's to get Nat out of Tyler's hold. Mrs.T pauses the video. " He has the chance to escape while they are focused on Nat. But he doesn't. Instead he goes back and fights with one of the people that hurt him most so that Nat can get away from him. Once again not focusing on his own safety ". She presses play and it shows Eddie and Jack grab ahold of him and pull him away from Nat. You can see him struggling to get to Nat until Nate kicks him hard in the chest. Making him cough up blood. You can hear Nate yelling at him saying " This is what happens when you disobey me NuNew! Not only did you transfer schools without my permission. You also made friends with people ". Nate kicks him on the chest hard again. You hear Nat screaming his name before he starts to call for Zee and the others. It then shows Nate walk over to Nat and start to kick him repeatedly. You hear him scream for them to stop hurting him. He's screaming saying that he's not involved. You then hear him shout " This is between me and you bastard! Leave him alone and I will let you do whatever you want to me! You can even kill me! I won't put up a fight ". Mrs.T pauses the video again. Nat grabs his hand tightly. " NuNew said he would give up his own life if it meant that they would leave Nat alone. After everything he would still rather give up his life then to see them hurt Nat ". She presses play again and you can see Nat fall to the floor. Only being held up a little bit because of Tyler. You see Nate turn around and walk over to him shouting. " I already tried to kill you NuNew ". It shows him rip open his shirt and point to his scars. " I'm the one who gave you all of these fucking scars! I tried to kill you! But you fucking got up and walked away to get help! You disobeyed me ". Mrs.T pauses the video. " We have him confessing that he attempted to murder NuNew that day " she then plays it again. " You have broken so many rules so now you will get punished for it! I'm going to make you watch as I do the same thing that I did to you! To him ". Nate says turning around and walking to Nat. You can hear him screaming and fighting so hard to get to Nat. Just as Nate was about to hit Nat again you see Zee appear in the video saying " Don't you ever fucking touch them again ". Before he shoves Nate and punches him. You then see Max shove Tyler away from Nat. You see Nat fall into the water. You hear him scream that Tyler is the one who might have the knife to Max. You then see Jimmy and Net pull Eddie and Jack away from NuNew. Mrs.T pauses the video. " If it wasn't for NuNews and Nat's friends coming to them at that time. Nate would have attempted to murder someone else ". His breath quickens as she presses play on the video again. You see him above himself off of the ground and walk over to Nat before falling down next to him. You see him pull Nat into his chest. You hear him say " I'm sorry! I shouldn't have gotten up when they tried to kill me! This is all my fault ". You see Nat grab his hand. Then you can see Tyler stab Max. You see as he realizes what just happens and he screams. You can see him frantically looking around screaming at people to get help. To help them. You then see him look down at Nat and realize that he's passed out. You see him scream in pain and fear as he pulls Nat closer to his chest. When he looks up you see him watch as Max falls to the ground unconscious. He screams for Max to get up. Screaming that he needs to get away from Tyler. Mrs.T pauses the video. " What you have just witnessed is a boy watching all of his friends fight with the people that hurt him most. While he holds his unconscious friend. NuNews worst fear has become a reality right in front of his eyes and he can't do anything to help them. Because he's making sure they won't hurt Nat anymore ". He starts to cry. Nat pulls him closer to him and wraps his arm around him as Mrs.T plays the video again. You can see him looking around helpless. You can see that he wants to help his friends but he's protecting Nat. You can see him look down and Nat. Pulling him closer and hiding Nat with his body just in case someone tries to come get him. You then see paramedics rush to get Max and take him to the ambulance. You can se the police grab Tyler and take him away in handcuffs. They do the same with Eddie and Jack. You then see Tommy and James as well as an officer make their way towards him. He immediately shouts for them to stay back. To not come any closer. You watch as Tommy introduces himself and James to him saying that they're his friends. You can see him look and Tommy and James and then to the officer. Tommy tells the officer to back up. You see James raise his hands in the air as he slowly makes his way over to him. Stopping anytime he flinches. Continuing only when he's given him a short break. Until he finally kneels down next to him. Mrs.T pauses the video again. " NuNew is so afraid of people hurting Nat again that he's shielding him with his own body. He's even afraid to have his own friends near Nat because he's so terrified that Nat will get hurt more ". She presses play again and you can hear James asked if he can touch his shoulder. Only doing it once he says it's ok. Then you see him break down and tell James that he should have died on that day how this is all his fault. That his worst nightmare is coming true. You see James say comforting words to him and he slowly shows Nat to James. James the turns around shouting that Nat is unconscious and hurt badly. That NuNew is hurt badly as well. Not long after you see paramedics rushing over to him Nat and James. You see him hide Nat with his own body screaming at the paramedics to stay away but they don't listen. You see as an officer pulls James aside who starts cursing at them. You then see a paramedic hold onto him while another one try's to get Nat out of his grasp. You hear him a screaming " No I won't let you take him! You're going to hurt him! I won't let you hurt him " . When the paramedic gets Nat out of his grasp he starts to scream loudly as they take him away. He only stops when the paramedic points to his chest and asks him what happened. You watch him quickly shove away the paramedic as well as James. He then sees everyone looking at him. The video shows him backing up into deeper water. It then shows Nate getting out of the police officers grasp and running over to him. It shows Nate grab his harshly screaming that he's going to kill him before he's taken away by the officers. When James try's to walk to him he screams at him to stay back. That if he comes close then Nate is going to kill him. He screams that he doesn't want to have anyone else get hurt. You then hear him just scream like his whole world is falling apart before he passes out and falls into the water. It shows Zee rushing over and picking him up and shouting at the paramedics to show him where to go as he starts to run out of the water. He follows the paramedic. Everyone else following him. Tommy James you guys go with Max and Nat I'll ride with NuNew. Jimmy and Net you guys call their parents. I'll text you the address later ". The video then ends. His whole body is shaking. " The last time you hear NuNew scream is when his whole world felt like is was falling apart. When he gets to the hospital and wakes up he doesn't talk for a long time and Zee has to slowly get him to come walk over to him. At some point Nat and James walk into the room. Shortly after NuNew starts to get a ptsd anxiety attack and screams at them to all stay back. Thinking that if they get close to him then they will get hurt by Nate. This ends up causing him to pass out again. Once he wakes up again he's distraught about everything happening and blaming himself. He's on the verge of an anxiety attack he doesn't let anyone come close to him. The doctor has to make two nurses leave because he gets overwhelmed by all of the people in the room. Which are his parents, Zee, Jimmy, Jimmy's father, one nurse and the doctor. On the condition that they don't come close to him he will answer any questions. Which the doctor agrees to. When the doctor has to check his scars although terrified he lets Zee and only Zee come close to him. In his head everyone but Zee would hurt him. When Zee reached him he broke down saying how scared he was. It took another hour for him to allow the doctor to come close and check on his scars and bruises herself. When he was going to go see Nat and Max in the other room for the first time he's able to make it into the room. However filled with guilt when he sees injured Nat and Max with a bandage on his stomach he freezes. When Max calls his name he runs out of the room unable to speak with his two friends that got injured. It takes him hours until he is ready to go see Max and Nat again. Zee is there guiding him to the room. When he's at the bedside of Max's hospital he breaks down apologizing and saying it's his fault. Although everyone tries to reassure him that it's not his fault he won't stop blaming himself. Later that day he meets with Mr.Kornthas, Max's father who is a lawyer and offers to be their lawyer to create a case against Nat and the others. This next video I'm going to show you is the first interview he does about the events. It's the first time he goes over the details of the beach " she says as she presses play on the video. You see him sitting next to Zee of his hospital bed. You hear Max's father ask if he can show his chest and all the scars. He agrees and takes off his shirt. You can see his scars as well as the black and purple bruises all across his chest. When he knows it's ok he puts his shirt back on. You watch as he sits down on the bed and goes over all the details. You can see him start to panic more and more. When he gets to the part where the paramedics take Nat away from him he goes into a ptsd anxiety attack you can see him start to panic and say he needs to go save Nat. He shouts that Nate has him that Nate's going to hurt him. He's hyperventilating. You can then see Nat rush into the room and over to him. Nat grabs onto his shoulders and makes him focus on him. Nat tells him that he's right there with him and that Nate doesn't have him and that it's ok. You then see him grab Nat's shirt quietly saying that Nat's safe. Right after you see him pass out. Zee catching him. The video then ends. " Even though he had just spoken with Nat an hour before the interview he starts to have a hard time telling the past from the present time. After they were done talking with the investigators they go back to the school. Where at some point NuNews emotions spiral out of control and all he can feel is anger. At some point he runs away from everyone until he's on the side of the school near a smaller building. Where he collapses to the ground and screams out in anger. Wanting to release this anger he starts to punch the cement ground as hard as he can because that's they only way he can think of to get rid of his anger. He's so focused on hitting the ground that he doesn't realize that Zee is running up to him. He only notices when Zee grabs his arm stopping him from hitting the ground. NuNew starts to shout how he's angry with himself for making everyone worry as much as they do ". She points to the screens. On the screen there is a picture of his bloody and bruised knuckles. For almost 2 weeks he suffers through several episodes of anger. At one point Nat tries to give him his phone when he wants to go on a walk. When NuNew goes to take his phone his brain makes him think that Nat is afraid of him which turns all of his anger into fear. He's terrified that he's made his first friend scared of him and he runs to their room. Where Zee finds him first. Zee has to hold him to prevent him from hurting himself by slamming his hands down on a desk because he doesn't know how else to relieve his intense emotions. Another example of this is when he saw the video from the first attack. He had been told that all the video footage was deleted and gone. So when he saw the video and everyone around him was watching him he became terrified and he ran as fast as he could to the same spot he went the first time he felt extremely angry. There he watched the video several times before he throws his phone completely shattering the screen ". Mrs.T holds up his shattered phone. " By shattering the phone he was unable to turn off the video. So he constantly herd himself screaming. That's all he could hear when the schools doctor as well as his friends came rushing over to him ". She points to the screen and plays the video. It starts from the moment he throws his phone shattering it. You can hear him screaming at himself to wake up because he thought it was a dream. You can see him look towards the phone and say " Make it stop ". You see him look over to his friends and the doctor as they reach him. He stands up and shouts " Turn it off! I don't want to hear it anymore " . You see the confused looks on their faces as they try to understand him. You see him not understanding what they are saying. You see him hit himself on the head. As he starts to cry. You can see him desperately looking for someone before he meets eyes with Nat. You see him beg Nat to turn the sound of his screaming off. Once it's turned off you see him fall to the ground. The video then ends. " After this they head to the office before leaving to Bangkok about 2 hours later. The day after he arrives home his address is released. It puts him into another episode. This time he makes a post on instagram telling everyone what happened, telling them how it started. He told everyone his sexuality. He even begged for people not to surround his house. Then when he came here yesterday he had a close encounter with Nate ". She starts to play the video. When it starts you can see him slow down and stop. He puts his hood on. You watch as someone says his name right next to Nate. When they say his name Nate shoves his way over to him before rushing towards him shouting that he's going to kill him. You can see him back up and fall to the door screaming in terror. You watch as Nate is dragged away by guards. You then watch as Max slowly talks with him and walks over to him. You see him break down when Max hugs him. The video then ends. He makes eye contact with Mrs.T and he knows what she's about to show. Mrs.T quickly turns to look at the screen again. " The next video is from yesterday. Now the reason I'm showing you this video is to show you all how much trauma he has because of everything. The event even gives him more trauma on top of everything else ". She presses play on the video and he starts to panic as he watches it. He sees the moment he realizes what covered him and he watches as he goes into panic. He looks away when Zee comes on to the screen. He looks at his hands. He can still feel the blood on him. He closes his eyes and then opens them again. When he does he sees red on his hands and arms. He starts to harshly wipe his skin as if to get the non existent blood off of his skin. Nat try's to stop him but he's unable to. He just continues to do it. He hears Mrs.T call his name. He slowly looks up and sees Mrs.T looking at him with worry. He slowly stops wiping his skin. Mrs.T looks at everyone in the court house while Nat pulls him into a hug. He just starts to cry. " Since this event NuNew can still feel the animal blood on his skin. As you have just witnessed, he also sometimes imagines that the blood is on him. Which makes him start to scrub at his skin harshly. Trying to get the blood that isn't there off of his skin ". Mrs.T walks over to the jury. She then points at him. " That young boy has been through so much pain that no one can ever imagine how traumatized he is. Please look at all the evidence that he has against Nate and the others. Please consider the sentence he wants when you determine your final decision after the testimonies " she says before walking back to the table that Mrs.F is at. " That is all of the evidence Judge " she says. " With all of the evidence being shown. We shall end the first day of trial. NuNew Nat and Max shall leave the court room first before Nate and the others. In order to make sure that nothing similar to incident in the beginning happens ". When the judge stands up and walks out of the court room the court for day 1 officially ends. They have him, Nat and Max quickly leave the court room. The whole time he continues to stare at the non existent red liquid that's on his hands. He can feel the warm and thick substance sliding down is arms.
When they make it into the small room he frantically looks around for a sink. " NuNew what's wrong. Are you ok " he hears someone say. He's not sure who it was because he's to focused on finding a sink.
When he remembers that they walked past a bathroom when heading to the room for the first time he rushes to the door. He quickly opens it and starts to run to the bathroom. People are shouting his name but he continues to run. When he makes it to the bathroom he quickly heads over to the sink. Turning the water on. He starts to scrub away at the dark red liquid. He doesn't stop when he hears people rush into the bathroom. He just starts to cry as the red liquid won't come off. Nat tries to get him to stop but he shoves Nat away. He doesn't mean to be rude but he has to get the blood off. It's dirty and it's scaring him. " Max go get P'Zee! I don't think we can help him as well as he can ".
When scrubbing doesn't work he starts to scratch his hands. " Get off. Get it off of me " he says loudly. " NuNew please stop scratching yourself. Your hurting yourself " Nat says worried. He just shakes his head no. " It's not coming off Nat! There's so much and it won't come off " he says panicking.
He scratches his hands and arms that he made himself start bleeding. Only causing him more panic. As well as everyone else to panic. " No no no no " he shouts as Zee rushes into the bathroom over to him. " NuNew, baby look at me. The bloods not there ok. Your heads playing tricks on you ". He shakes his head. " It's all over Hia . It won't come off no matter how hard to try to wash it off ". Zee walks over to him and gently grabs his wrist. " No I have to wash it off. It's dirty. Hia your getting your hands dirty " he says trying to pull his hands away. " Hia it hurts. My arms hurt. And I can still feel it on my skin. I don't know what to do " he says loudly as he cries. Zee pulls him into a hug. " Shhh. It's ok. It's going to be ok. Let's see if they have a first aid kit to help your arms ok. Then we can go home and relax with everyone. We can all watch movies together. We will eat dinner together " Zee says gently trying to calm him down. Slowly he starts to calms down. It takes him half an hour to stop seeing the blood on his hands and arms. When it's gone he sees just how bad he hurt himself. " Why does this always happen. Why do I always hurt myself like this. I don't mean to " he says quietly. He turns to look over to Nat and when he does he remembers how he shoved him. " I-I didn't " Nat interrupts him. " Don't be sorry. I know you didn't mean to. That's why I had P'Max go get P'Zee. I knew that if I couldn't help you then P'Zee could ". He just looks down. " We should go get your arms looked at " Zee says gently and he nods his head. " Nat check to see the situation out there and see if there are any guards " Zee says. Nat nods before going out of the bathroom. Shortly after he returns with three guards. " The media is outside near the bathroom still filming. They saw us run after NuNew and then saw you rush over here ". He stops himself from crying again. " I'm sorry " he quietly says. " NuNew let's get you to the court house's medical area. I have had some guards notify the nurses while the other guards are outside waiting for you guys. We won't let anyone hurt you or get to you" one of the guards says. He just nods his head. Zee continues to gently hold on to his wrist as they exit the bathroom. When they do he sees the video cameras filming him. He unknowingly moved closer to Zee. " Don't look at them ok baby. Focus on where we are
heading " Zee says. He listens to Zee and looks away as they walk to the medical area.
When they reach the medical area Max and his dad are already there talking with a doctor. When they noticed that him and Nat arrived they quickly walk over to them. " Oh god it's worse than I thought " he herd Max's dad say. Zee finally lets go of his wrist so the doctor can take a look. He flinches slightly when the doctor touches him. " Sorry " he quietly says. " You have scratched you self quite hard. What I can do for you is to put ointment on the opened scratches and bandage your arms ". His eyes widen at the word ointment. " Please just bandage them ". Max's dad looks at him and says " It will help you recover faster if you put the ointment on it NuNew ". He shakes his head no and goes to pull his arms away. Hurting himself in the process. " The last time my mom tried to put ointment on my hands because of bruises and I freaked out and reacted the same way that I just did. It's going to make things worse " he says panicking. He looks at Zee. " Hia don't make me. I don't want it. Don't let them put the ointment on ". Zee just gives him a gentle smile before saying " Please only put the bandages on him doctor. Although it might help his scratches heal quicker, it will only cause him to panic more and have another emotional episode that caused him to do this ". The doctor nods and it makes him relax a little bit. The doctor then grabbed the white bandage and started to wrap them around his arms a little tight. He winces whenever he feels pain.
When the doctor is done bandaging his arms he tells them to have him come back if they start to hurt worse. After that they all get escorted by the guards to the area where everyone else is waiting. When they were almost there he sees all the camera filming him and he takes a step back nervously. Zee notices and gently grabs his hand. " It's going to be ok. I'm right here ". He bites his lip as Zee gently pulls him as they walk. When they pass through the cameras they all turn to follow where they are going. He moves closer to Zee as they walk. He grabs onto Zee's arm with his other hand.
When they reach everyone else his parents as well as Mrs.Betty rush over to him. " Oh dear, what's happened to your arms " Mrs.Betty asked. He lets go of Zee so Mrs.Betty and his parents can see his arms. " While watching the last video. I had started to feel what the blood felt like so I closed my eyes to try and stay calm but when I opened them. There was so much blood on my hands. That's what was happening when Mrs.T called my name after the video. When I left the court room I ran to the bathroom and started scrubbing at my hands under the water from the sink. And it wouldn't come off and I started to scratch myself ". Mrs.Betty hugged him. " Oh dear " she says. " I didn't mean to. I never mean to hurt myself " he says holding back his tears. " I know dear. We all know " she says as she pulls away from the hug. " I want you to know that I am so glad that you were able to walk to my house. That you were so strong and brave to get up ". He starts to cry. " You are so much stronger then you realize. You will be able to overcome this soon. You have so many wonderful people supporting you. You have me and my daughter as well ". He nods his head. " You always comfort me Mrs.Betty. What can I do to repay you. You've helped me so much ". Mrs.Betty gently pats his shoulder. " You must fight to recover. That's what you can do to repay me. Never stop fighting to get over your trauma ". He nods his head. He watches as Mrs.Betty pulls out a small box from her bag. " Your parents told me last night that today will be the hardest day for you so I made you some macaroons. I know how much you enjoy desserts " she says handing him the box of macaroons. Only making him cry more. " Thank you Mrs.Betty " he says before hugging her. She hugs him back before she turns to look at both Max and Nat. " You both are strong as well. Recovering from a stab wound and from the injuries Nate gave you. You both must recover from this as well ok ". Max and Nat both nod their heads.
