CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR....
JEREMY'S POV
It had been two weeks since Tazeema's decision to stay and it was also the day we leave for South Africa. I insisted on going back to south Africa with them because I had never been. Ok I had gotten so used to having Tazeema and the kids around that I could not bear being away from them even if it was just for a month. I planned on staying with them in South Africa for two weeks and then returning back to finalize some times before they returned permanently.
Before our late afternoon flight, I called for an emergency meeting for the hospital board members. I sat comfortably in the conference room as they walked in one by one. Elijah Elswood was the last to arrive per usual. He walked into the room anger evident on his face.
"I thought only veteran members could call for an emergency meeting" Elijah said to one of the members sitting beside him knowing fully well everyone in the room overheard him.
"I trust that in my fathers absence and as his only child. You all agree that it is imperative that I stand in for him as a deputy giving me as much rights as a veteran" I said and Eli laughed as the other members nodded.
"I do not plan on keeping you all for long. I called this meeting just to point out a few things and let my intentions moving forward be known" I said and gestured for my assistant to pass out the printed paperwork to the board members.
"The paper before you has a graph on page three showing you how much has come into the hospital franchise during my fathers reign as the head board member, Elijah Elswood's reign and my reign on just the plastic surgery department. Now Eli's graph rates more than mine but not by much; which is strange seeing as the plastics department is hardly the biggest department in the hospital" I said receiving murmuring from the group
"What are you getting at boy" Eli said his voice echoing through the room
"Elijah this is only the beginning of the meeting, you'll understand the point of it soon. Ladies, gentlemen and Elijah please turn to page five. This is a full account of the financial books and spending dating back to when my Mr. Elswood and my father started this franchise. As you can see clear as day Elijah has been embezzling money from this company from the beginning. I only found this out when my mother handed me some of my fathers documents to aid in my quest to buy you out Elijah" I said and Elijah looked around the room suspiciously letting out a throaty laugh.
"My father was going to confront you his dearest and oldest friend privately before his untimely death" I said and Elijah stood up from the chair banging the table angrily
"Sit the fuck down Elijah" I yelled
"Are all just going to sit here and let this child speak to me in this manner" Elijah said and the board members all avoided meeting his gaze. "Alright, you will all come to regret this" He said sitting down
"My father and his lawyer Jim were the only ones aware of your deceit. My father had a heart attack leaving just one person aware of his plans to take you down. I can bet my life that you had something to do with Jim Pearson's sudden car accident days after my fathers death" I continued again earning murmurs and gasps from the board members
"I have nothing further to say to you Elijah and while I am not sure how you found out about their plans, I will leave the homicide investigation up to the law enforcement. As my fathers deputy, you are now released from your duties as a board member to the Caine Elswood Memorial Hospital effective immediately. Your name will also be permanently erased from this hospital's name due to your revolting actions. I have initiated a wire transfer of funds to your family to buy you out of this franchise as a courtesy because you my friend will be spending a long time in prison; No need for your family to suffer because of your selfish actions" I said rising from my chair
"All in favor of my decision, say aye" I yelled confidently
"AYE" The reply echoed all around the room from everyone leaving Eli dumbfounded. He sighed looking down at the table in front of him clearly defeated.
"Well then it is settled, Andrea let the police know we are done" I said to my assistant. Shortly after the police stormed into the conference room arresting Elijah Caine.
"You will pay for this" Elijah gritted at me while being escorted by the police out of the conference room.
I left the hospital finally feeling like I could breathe freely. I walked over to my driver waiting at the front of the hospital building. I called my mother as soon as I sat in the back of the G wagon.
"My love" She said picking the phone up on the first ring
"Ma its done" I said and she sighed deeply, her sobs suddenly echoing through the phone
"Its happy tears my love, don't worry" She said easing my anxiety
"Mom I feel like I can breathe now" I said
"I know you do. Your father will be so proud of you" She said and I could not hold it in any longer. Tears immediately blurred my vision
"This is the beginning of the rest of your life and I just know it is going to be a beautiful sight. You did it my love" she said and I nodded as if she could see me
"Now wipe those tears and go get your family" She said
"I love you Ma" I said
"Love you to baby" She said cutting the line.
"Home please" I said to my driver
