CHAPTER TWENTY NINE....
TAZEEMA'S POV
It had been two days since the news of the twins and I had been hit the press. We had been cocooned inside the house as reporters swarmed outside Kravitz home. I tried as much as possible to distract the twins from the chaos camped outside the house.
Jeremy and I talked a lot and decided it was best he stayed away from the house for now, giving things time to die down. However he has stayed in contact with the twins, speaking to them over the phone and facetime any chance he got.
Guyenne left earlier in the morning for a hiking date with the Chuck E Cheese guy, David. David was a very nice guy and I could see that Guyenne really liked him but I was a bit apprehensive as we were all set to return to Johannesburg in less than two weeks. The twins were currently taking a nap while I made lunch. The door bell rang as I cut some cabbage on a chopping board and I ignored it; so many reporters had been calling my phone and ringing the door bell since the news broke. The bell rang a few more times and I dropped the knife on the kitchen island marching angrily to the door ready to lay it on whatever reporter had the nerve to actually make it to the door step.
I swung the door open revealing an elegantly dressed lady smiling from ear to ear showcasing the deep dimples on her cheeks. Her sun kissed and well moisture skin shined so bright under the days sunlight. She had finely twisted black and gray colored locs that gave contrast to her face and lay perfectly on the chocolate skin that her off the shoulder hounds tooth pattern blazer exposed.
"Ma'am, like I've told your fellow colleagues, we have no comment on what you are about to ask. I have little children napping in there, have some respect and kindly get off our property before I call the cops" I said as politely as I could giving the situation all while admiring the beautiful lady who remained smiling even after my outburst.
"I'm definitely going to get along with you, Leave it to my son to forget to mention how gorgeous you are" She said as I stood astound wondering why she was still on my porch.
"How discourteous of me, hello my name is Savannah Caine. You may know me as Jeremy's mother" She said extending her hand. I returned the hand shake completely taken aback and too stunned to speak. She laughed while I nervously bit the inner part of my cheek
"We have lot's to discuss. While its a beautiful day, may I come in please" she said
"Oh my, yes please. I'm sorry please come in" I said moving to the side to allow the gorgeous lady into the house.
"What a lovely house" She said admiring the home entrance. I shut the front door and walked ahead of her while she followed
"Thanks, its my best friends place. I'm so sorry about that outburst a few minutes ago, It has been a hectic few days" I said turning slightly towards her while walking to the living room
"Trust me I understand darling, the press can be a pain in the you know what. And I know this is not something you as well as the kids are used to. On behalf of my son, I am sorry you all have to go through this" She said as I ran to grab China's Barbie doll off the couch and gestured for her to have a seat.
"Join me please" She said patting the space near her; I nodded and sat next her turning towards her so we were face to face. I saw the resemblance now, Jeremy was definitely all his mother.
"I imagine that this might be quite uncomfortable for you but I assure you that I come in peace. I have just been informed of some amazing news, I am grandmother" She said smiling
"Yes ma'am and I know this is not an Ideal situation" I replied nervously
"Ideal is a conception of what is deemed perfect. This too me is perfect, it is the best news I have heard in times. Kids are a gift from God and I believe that everything happens for a reason. That meeting at Chuck E cheese was beyond Jeremy and you. The universe took effect rearranging its placement of your family" She said and I nodded
"Yes ma'am but it is all so complicated, I don't know where to begin" I said feeling comfortable around Savannah
"I imagine it must be but you have to start somewhere and leave the rest to God and the universe. It hurt me for years to see my son suffer in silence at the hands of the Elswoods. For the first time in years I saw how happy he was talking about you and the twins yesterday. My heart marveled at the sight and I vowed to do anything to keep that joy in my baby's heart, hence my coming here today. Give him a chance to show you how much he is capable of"
"But Lily is.." I started and was cut off
"Lily is no longer a part of this family. The Elswood have caused far too much problems in my family. I just found out of the blackmail last year and out of respect for my son I stayed put. He begged me to let him handle it on his own and I have done just that. It seems I have stayed silent for far too long leaving Elijah Caine to forgot who I am and what I am capable of. I am dealing with that now so you my dear have nothing to worry of " She said sternly and my heart marveled at the news that Jeremy would be free from that family's shackles.
"Mama, are you crying" I looked up to see Jeremiah rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. I gestured for him to sit next to me in-between Savannah and I.
"No baby, its happy tears. Look someone drove a long way to meet you and your sister today, what do we say to our guest" I said trying to rub the crust from his eyes
"Good afternoon ma'am" He said turning to a smiling Savannah
"Hello cutie, you must be Jeremiah. I am Savannah, your grandma" Savannah said taking Jeremiah's hand in hers.
"I already have two grandma's" Jeremiah said and I fought to pinch his arm a little
"He means my mom and stepmom" I said looking at Jeremiah who looked down at his feet and shrugged
"Jeremiah this is your fathers mom, so she is your grandma too. You and China are the luckiest kids ever, I wish I had three grandma's" I said diffusing the awkwardness. Jeremiah beamed staring at me as I feigned shock.
"Did you know your daddy had long hair just like yours till he was about 8" Savannah said immediately catching Jeremiahs attention.
"Really? Maybe I will cut my hair when I turn eight too grandma" He said and we laughed
"As I live and breathe" Savannah said and we followed the direction of her gaze to China standing at the living room door. She slowly walked to me holding her teddy bear that dragged on the floor. I carried her in my lap once she got to me and she nestled her head in the crook of my neck bashfully.
"I thought Jeremiah looked like Jeremy but China is his splitting image, here let me show you" She said digging through her purse and fishing her phone out. She slid through apps on the phone and landed on a picture then turned it towards us. China's head popped up inquisitively as we all looked at the picture on the phone. It was of a young Jeremy cheesing hard in what seemed like a waterpark. Hair just like Jeremiah and Savannah was right, China looked like Jeremys twin even down to the glasses.
"You see that babies, you are daddy's twins" I marveled at the picture and they nodded smiling. Savannah scrolled through her gallery landing on another photo. It was one of Jeremy dressed in blue scrubs and a Caucasian man in the same colored scrubs standing next to him smiling.
"This is your Grandpa and your dad at family day in elementary school" She said smiling.
"Maybe we can see more pictures when we visit grandma savannah right guys" I said and they nodded excitedly.
Savannah spent the rest of the day with us and even assisted me in finishing up the preparation of lunch. Jeremy called his mom on facetime to speak to the kids and refused to cut the phone wanting to spend the day with us over video call.
It was a good day.
