KT smiled at Yasmine as they sat together, gently putting the last touches on Yas' face. They were working on their makeup for the Halloween dance instead of working on homework. Yasmine wanted to make sure everything was perfect for the dance since their costumes had been delivered and they'd tried them on, so KT was happy to jump right in. She wanted it to be perfect too.
"And done," she said. They had been playing with ideas back and forth for hours, had finally settled on the right colors, and began testing it out. KT didn't wear a lot of makeup, she usually went for more lighter looks, but she still loved the whole process. It was relaxing, especially when she got to do someone else's makeup. "Take a look."
Yasmine stood up and walked over to the mirror. She stood there for a while, inspecting her face closely. She batted her eyes and puckered her lips, keeping an eye out for any imperfections. KT watched expectantly, a soft smile on her face that grew wider when Yas smiled. "Bitch, this is exactly what I wanted!"
KT jumped up from her seat and ran over, giggling. "I knew you'd love it! It really brings out your eyes, and I was thinking the night of the dance, we'll add some lashes and really make them pop!"
"Yes!" Yasmine shouted, laughing. She had already done KT's make up, so they began checking themselves out in the mirror. They were wearing matching silk nightwear, Yasmine in a bold pink ensemble and KT in a sea green one. Where Yasmine's accentuated her thin figure, KT's showed off her chest and hips. "God, we look hot. I'd date us."
KT laughed and threw her arms around Yas, smiling at their reflections. "I'd date us too. We're gonna look so hot as Laker Girls."
"For sure," Yas agreed. When they pulled away from their sisterly hug, she started playing with KT's hair. "Now all that's left is the hair. I was thinking a high pony for myself and dutch braids for you?"
Once they'd made the final decisions on their Halloween looks, they turned in for the night. KT washed her face thoroughly and crawled into bed. She grabbed her phone, making sure she hadn't missed any texts or other notifications. There were none, which made her feel a little bored. She scrolled through Twitter for a while, but nothing interested her there, nor on Instagram.
She was trying hard to distract her mind from thinking of Eli, because when she did, her heart clenched. She remembered his red, glossy eyes and the way his lip trembled. The sound of his raw, pain filled voice came back to echo in her mind and she hated it. She hated that he was so tortured and there was nothing she could seemingly do about it.
She just wanted to pull him into her arms and tell him that he was perfect just as he was. She knew how cruel people could be, she saw it first hand everyday. Their mean words drowned out her soft voice when she tried to combat them, which made her angry at herself when she couldn't speak up more.
She wanted to tell him how his scar looked cool, but she had the sickening feeling in her gut that he wouldn't hear her over the harsh bullies. Yasmine's own words bounced around in her head, calling him ugly and weird. KT couldn't disagree more, because she thought that he was cute and pretty and had such amazing eyes.
His handsome blue eyes that looked like they held a thousand words, all the words his mouth couldn't speak. She thought it was rather cute how when he got nervous, he couldn't look at one thing, or how they widened when she spoke to him. She's spoken to him only a handful of times, but she had noticed. His eyes, those big blue oceans he had for eyes, were hard to miss. Again, how did I never notice him before?
Her mind swarmed with thoughts of Eli. She closed her eyes, trying to imagine what his smile would look like. Oh, how she wanted to see him smile. She wanted to see light and joy in his eyes; she wanted to hear him laugh. She wished to take away his sadness and replace it with sunshine. If that could happen, maybe she could hear more of his voice...
