The table wasn't very big, but the group of friends did everything they could to squeeze everyone into the booth seats. Hawk, KT, and Moon were squished together on one side of the table while Demetri, Yasmine, and Aisha were on the other. A lone chair sat at the end of the table for Miguel, but he had excused himself to go to the restroom and had yet to return. However, his absence didn't dampen the mood, especially when the victory meal was brought out.
Before anyone could reach for the food, Yasmine put up her glass. "To champions."
"To champions!" everyone else echoed, raising their glasses and clinking them together with jolly laughter.
The rest of the team, seating at the nearby tables, whooped and wooed with excitement. Then Aisha pulled out her phone and started to record the events around her, smiling at the camera.
It felt good to be on the winning team and she was more than happy to share the celebration with her Instagram followers. "So you might be wondering what a team does after they win the championship. The answer? Victory nachos! It was supposed to be a round of drinks, but the waitress was not feeling Hawk's fake ID."
The boy in question looked up at her with a sudden panicked look in his eyes. "Hey, don't talk about that. My parents follow you."
Aisha turned her head, giving him an apologetic look before facing her phone again. "Sorry, Mr. and Mrs. Moskowitz."
KT gave Hawk a small smile, wrapping her arm around his and linking them together with a giggle. It quickly put his mind at ease, melting away all his worries as he remembered why they were there.
He leaned and kissed her, moving his arm behind her to hold her around the waist. It started off as small, butterfly kisses and quickly morphed into something a little more elaborate with a lot of heat. His tongue was just slipping into her mouth when Demetri spoke up.
"You know, I gotta say, it feels good to be at a victory party," he said, collecting some nacho toppings onto a tortilla chip.
Hawk pulled away from KT and looked across the table, smirking. He reached over the platter of nachos to take Demetri's chip. "Yeah, except you had nothing to do with the victory."
"Then I consider this a belated party for the coding competition we won at computer camp," Demetri continued, unfazed. He started dancing and singing in a strange, barely robotic voice. "Demetri and Eli! Binary brothers!"
The girls all burst into laughter, Hawk looking around at them uncomfortably. When his eyes landed on KT and he saw the way she and Moon leaned on each other in their fits of giggles, he felt his heart clench tight. He told himself she wasn't laughing at him, that she was laughing at Demetri and how stupid he was being. However, no matter what, it still bothered him.
He scowled at Demetri, leaning in to speak lowly. "Hey, cool it with the nerd shit, huh?"
KT didn't seem to hear him through the noise, so he returned his arm around her and pulled her close to his side. They were already hip to hip, but he wanted her even closer. If he had the space, he'd pull her onto his lap and wrap his arms around her tight, hold her against his chest, kiss her neck on occasion.
Moon turned to them, still smiling. She pushed her own, smaller platter of nachos toward the couple. "Hey, KT, does this look right to you? I can't tell if they used vegan cheese sauce or not."
KT hummed and inspected the plate, then dipped her finger in the cheese and tasted it. As she did this, Hawk watched her soft, pink lips lightly wrapped around the tip of her finger. He didn't notice someone else was doing the same.
