"So let me get this straight," KT said, holding her hands in front of her face as she tried to piece everything she'd just been told together. For a moment, she looked as though she was about to say a prayer, but the way her lips pressed together told anyone looking at the pair that she had just witnessed a confession. "Last night, you kissed Miguel at the party. Then you went home with Robby, except not really because instead of going home, he took you to his dad's place - his dad who just so happens to be your dad's arch rival...? And then when your dad found out, he proceeded to freak out?"
"Pretty much," Sam said, slouching against her pillows. After the night she'd had, she felt lucky anyone got to come over. Hell, she felt lucky she got to keep her phone. "I just... I don't know what to do."
"Hold on, I'm still processing the fact that your dad has an arch rival he's kept since high school," KT said, mind boggled that these were grown men they were talking about. She rubbed her head, feeling as though she'd been the one that had been drunk last night.
Well, I was drunk in a way. High on life, she thought to herself, her heart swelling as she remembered her night with Hawk. However, she quickly waved it all away for later, refocusing her attention on her friend, who had called her over in desperate need of help.
Sam rolled her eyes, but then winced and held her head. She hadn't revealed how much she'd had to drink the night before, but any amount past two drinks was startling for her, as she'd always been a girl who followed the rules and didn't engage in too much teenage rebellion. So KT was still a little confused how they'd gotten to the point where her friend had made a drunken mistake.
"What made you kiss Miguel anyway? I thought you were over him," she said, trying to make sense of it all.
She was laid out on Sam's bed, wearing her shorts from the previous night and a blouse of hers she'd miraculously found in Hawk's closet. It wasn't at all end-of-summer chic, bright orange and a little shimmery in the sunlight. However, it did the job of getting her out of the house without wearing any of Hawk's clothes, even though all she wanted to do was stay in his comfy shirt and lay in his arms all day long.
What it didn't do was hide all the hickeys on her neck, so she was relying on her hair to do a lot of that work. If Sam had seen even one mark on her neck, she didn't say anything about it. She had more pressing matters to deal with anyway.
"I thought so, too, but then Aisha told me about how he returned Mr. Miyagi's Medal of Honor," she started explaining, sighing heavily. "And then he came out to check on me and I was thanking him, then next thing I know, we kissed."
"Well, you have to tell Robby," KT sighed.
"Should I?"
"Yes," she stressed, looking at Sam with uncharacteristically stern eyes. Her brows scrunched up harshly, a beat passing before she continued. "If you and Robby are going to continue to have a good relationship, you have to tell him. Truth is the foundation of a relationship."
Sam put her head in her hands and her voice came out muffled. "I know."
Her next move startled KT, as she grabbed her phone.
"Should I text him?"
KT took the phone out of her hands and shook her head. "No, this is something you have to tell him in person. You can't just text him that you cheated on him after drinking yourself silly." She sat up straighter after setting the phone out of Sam's reach. "Listen, he knew you were drunk last night, so I'm sure he'll understand, but when you tell him, you really don't wanna hide behind a screen. You need to be face to face so you can be honest with him and he knows that you're serious about your relationship. I mean, you are serious about your relationship, right?"
