A noise complaint had been filed and the cops arrived at Moon's house, but their arrival spooked everyone there. People scattered and made it hard to see who was where and what was really going on. The music had stopped, the front rooms were flooded with red and blue lights coming through the windows, and nothing was calm.
Moon was rushing to the front door to handle things while her peers did everything to get out of there as fast as they could. The less people that stuck around the better, she knew that, but her mind was already formulating what she should say to the officers when she opened the door. She glanced over her shoulder, seeing the mess her humble home had been reduced to and knew what direction she needed to take. She pulled on a sweet smile.
On the other hand, Yasmine was not as calm.
With a tight grip around Demetri's wrist, she pulled him along through the house with frantic and hurried eyes. Everyone that passed them only irritated her, as none of them were the person she was looking for, and as each person left, she only grew more worried.
"Yasmine, let's just slow down," Demetri suggested, stressed and frightened by the arrival of law enforcement. He'd been having a good evening, spending time with his girlfriend in a hoorah to summer.
However, the carefree feelings of relaxation were long gone. They weren't sitting on a loveseat making out anymore. Instead, he was sure they were a good five minutes away from getting arrested for gods know what.
"I am not gonna slow down," she huffed, coming to a stop in the back lounge. The sliding door was open, the mini bar was robbed clean, and people were still making their escape. Her head should have been on a swivel because it was twisting and turning in every direction desperately.
She snagged Aisha by her jacket sleeve. "Have you seen KT?"
Aisha looked apologetic and shook her head. "I haven't seen her in hours."
"Hours?"
"I'm sorry," Aisha said, still moving for the door. "I really have to go. My parents are gonna kill me if they find out I was here and the cops showed up."
Yasmine feebly let go of her, knowing she couldn't hold anyone else hostage in her pursuit to find her sister. So she kept asking anyone she could as they left, but everyone had the same answer: they had no idea.
Soon, the house was empty and Moon was giving a short tour to two officers that had knocked on her door, explaining that it was only supposed to be a small get together and that people had invited people; things got out of hand, but she thought she'd had everything under control. They seemed to be believing her, so Yasmine and Demetri didn't interfere. If anything, it was for the best that they let Moon take the lead, because there was no way either of them were in any state of mind to be pulling one over on the cops.
When they were out of earshot of the three, Demetri and Yasmine walked into the kitchen to be somewhere a little secluded, but it didn't bring Yasmine any peace of mind.
"Why don't you call her?" he finally suggested, breaking through her frazzled mind. She was in panic mode and unable to think clearly, and all he wanted to do was help. "She wouldn't go anywhere without her phone."
"Right, right," Yasmine mumbled and fumbled for her phone. She quickly dialed KT's number and impatiently waited for something to happen. It rang twice before someone answered. "Oh, thank God. KT, you scared the crap out of me. Where the hell are you?"
~
With the phone pressed to her ear, KT was at a loss for what to say. There were many things she could tell her sister about where she was, but knew that none of them would be anything she wanted to hear. Everything had just happened so fast, it was a bit of a blur that held nothing but dread and fear. Her heart was still pumping hard in her chest.
