KT walked to her locker, holding onto the straps of her backpack with a white knuckle grip. Her eyes scanned the halls erratically, searching for a tall blonde to stay clear of. She took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing heart and the nerves bouncing about through her limbs. She itched to let out all of that energy, but knew she couldn't.
It unnerved her how much one bad interaction had the power to change everything. She didn't even like walking into school anymore for fear of running into Colt. She hadn't been to any track team meetings in the last week because of it. The only comfort she had were her friends, who didn't stray too far from her, even when they were in separate classes.
Ever since she told him, Demetri had stuck by her side. He promised to keep Colt away, which she appreciated greatly. Sometimes he felt like a minder, walking her to class with Yasmine at his side, then coming back to walk her to the next. She thought she'd get annoyed with it after a week, but it made her feel safe.
Demetri kept his promise. He didn't tell Yasmine, which gave KT some peace of mind. The less people who knew, the better.
The idea of people knowing frightened her. When she walked the halls, she didn't know who knew and who didn't. Does my team know? My friends? Has he told anyone, and if he did, what did he tell them happened? Lies, he'd tell them lies, because he has too much pride to tell them the truth.
She feared what other people would think of her, but her thoughts were wild because she had no idea what anyone knew. For all she knew, they might think of her as a slut or an attention getter. Maybe they thought she'd just hooked up with him and called it a day. What if they thought lowly of her?
What if. What if. What if.
It drove her up the wall, but she had to force herself not to think about it. When she walked through the halls, no one looked at her differently, no one pointed and laughed or called her mean names. Everything around her was the same as it had ever been.
It was only her that had changed, and she hated it.
However, for the most part, she ignored it. She acted like everything was normal, fine, peachy and perfect. No one batted an eye when she lied to them; they never called her out for it and she ended up asking herself Am I that good of a liar? Or was everyone else just that naive that they took her for her word?
As she put her backpack in her locker, a pair of footsteps made their way up behind her. They blended in with the rest of the crowd going about their day around her, so she didn't think much of it until she caught something in the corner of her eye. Demetri made an awkward wave to someone behind her, which prompted her to turn around.
The twins were standing behind her, so she smiled at them. It wasn't so fake or just polite for the sake of being polite. It was genuine, because she'd been missing her friends for the last week or so. She was sad to think she couldn't remember the last time she really talked to them, but pushed those thoughts out of her mind as they started talking.
"KT, you have to come to practice today," Bellamy started with a wide grin.
Blayke went on to finish, wearing a softer smile. "Yeah, Coach has a big announcement. She said everyone has to be there."
An announcement? There's nothing that should be going on anytime soon, KT thought to herself. She tried racking her brain for obvious answers - any events that could pop up, any issues that may arise - but nothing came to mind Naturally, her thoughts plummeted to the darkest pit in her stomach. Does this have anything to do with what happened? Did he tell Coach something and now there's some kind of conflict of interest?
