KT took her seat between Yasmine and Moon at their lunch table, smiling at them as they were absorbed in whatever Sam was saying. It had been a long day, mostly busy for KT as she went from class to class. The only fun she'd had was in biology with Moon when they were doing a lab that had them looking through a microscope. Otherwise, everything else was boring and her mind was running with thoughts of Eli.

She'd thought everything was going pretty good with him. They'd talked all weekend over text, but as soon as they were within arms reach of each other, he ran away again. She was beginning to think that it had to be her, something was wrong with her, she was scaring him away somehow. She only hoped that wasn't the case, but she couldn't help but think about it that way. She was always hanging out with Yasmine, so what if that was the problem? Did he think she was mean like her?

"What are we talking about?" she asked, deciding to distract her mind from Eli with the conversation she had walked up on. She smiled as she saw all her friends smiling, eager to share the news. She smiled back. "Well, tell me already."

"Sam's got a movie date with Kyler tonight," Yasmine said.

KT hummed as she unscrewed her water bottle. "That should be fun."

"I hope so," Sam laughed. Her phone buzzed on the table, but she turned it over so the screen was face down. Her momentary displeasure was overshadowed by her excitement. "Nothing can mess this up."

KT wasn't sure Sam was so convinced, sounding as though she was assuring herself rather than telling them that. She nodded encouragingly despite it, because she knew she was still pretty upset that her dad had ruined everything last time. "I'm sure it'll be great."

"Yeah. You guys are so cute together, too," Moon said

The girls giggled as the conversation continued with Sam telling them about how great of a boyfriend Kyler was. KT listened, throwing in little comments here and there, however her mind couldn't help but wander. She wished she had a boyfriend. With the way her friends talked about guys and relationships, she was ready to get into one or at least go on a date. Sure, she'd had her first date already, but she'd never had a boyfriend.

She sighed, poking her salad and pushing it around before completely losing interest and dropping her fork.

"What's the matter, KT?" Moon asked, putting a hand over hers. She spoke softly to keep the conversation just between them, smiling at her softly. "Is something bothering you?"

KT shrugged. "Not really."

Moon gave her a knowing look. "Come on, you can tell me."

"Okay," KT smiled gently before taking a small breath. "I'm just kinda sick of being single."

"Well, you know, you don't have to wait for a prince to ask you out," Moon said suggestively, gigging as she nudged KT's arm. "You can ask him out. Speaking of... is there a guy you've had your eye on?"

"Uh-"

"Oh, is it the guy on your team?"

"What? No."

Moon giggled and took KT's hand into hers, giving it a small squeeze. "You don't have to tell me. Just remember, you have just as much power as he does to make the first move. Go for it."

KT stared at her, a small smile forming on her lips. She nodded. "I'll think about it."

Maybe that's how I can show Eli I'm not like Yas. I can ask him on a date and we can go somewhere really cool and hangout and it'll make things not awkward or scary or anything like that. It'll be perfect.
