KT was decompressing in the family room, earbuds playing the top pop hits for the summer as she stretched her legs. Beads of sweat ran small rivers down her face and she used a cool rag to wipe them away, not wanting to feel the way they tickled her skin. Any tension in her muscles, she worked out with a few simple cool down stretches as her breathing came back to a normal, even pace. The adrenaline was still coursing through her veins, making her feel as though she were on top of the world and nothing could knock her down.
"KT!" Yasmine yelled, tearing one of her earbuds from her head.
It made her jump, heart beginning to race again instead of slowing down. She turned to her sister with wide, startled eyes. "Jesus Christ, Yasmine! What the hell?"
"I've been calling your name from upstairs for five minutes," Yas said, annoyance twinging her voice as nervousness overpowered her exasperation. She held up two outfits, one consisting of short shorts and blouse while the other was a jumper and tee shirt combo, their hangers clutched tightly in her hands. "I need your help deciding what to wear tonight."
"Where are you going?"
"Didn't you get my texts?"
The answer was no, because KT had started putting her phone on silent when she went on runs. It helped her to focus and block out the world around her, and also let her listen to her music uninterrupted.
Before she could answer and explain, Yasmine shook her head with a quick roll of the eyes. "Whatever, it doesn't matter now. All you need to know is that we're going out tonight."
"We?"
"Yes, so you better text Hawk and go take a shower." She looked between both outfits, conflicted between her deep blue blue or her green jumper. She then presented them to KT once more and held them out to her. "But first, tell me which one of these I should wear tonight."
KT stared at her, still in a state of shock at the news that they had plans. "The jumper."
"I was thinking that too, but I was worried it would look too basic and I don't want to come off as if I'm not trying. I mean-"
"Yasmine, what is this all about?" KT asked, hearing how on edge she was. It made her wonder how long she'd been running herself up the wall with this decision. "Where are we even going?"
Yasmine looked at her, clarity seeming to finally fall over her as she blinked, only to realize the details she'd been giving were vague and rather unhelpful. She gave an uncharacteristic, bashful smile as an apology before she started speaking.
"Well..."
