The girls were standing in front of the fireplace, their arms around each other as they stood in their Halloween costumes. KT was in the middle and had her arms around Yasmine and Moon, smiling for the camera as her mom took pictures of them with their phones. They struck different poses and laughed, having such a good time and they had yet to even leave for the dance. Moon and Sam had come over so that they could all get ready together and it had been so much fun for all of them.
KT and Yasmine were wearing matching yellow costumes while Moon and Sam wore matching purple ones. They all wore the same white sneakers, knee socks, and had little pom-poms to carry around to really sell the look. They had also decided to all do high ponytails to match each other; Sam and Moon doing half updos, Yasmine tying everything up except her side bangs, and KT had Moon put v-braids in her hair leading into her ponytail. They all looked super hot, according to themselves and to KT's mom, Kitty.
"Alright, girls, I think that's all your phones," Kitty said, smiling at them brightly. She was a tall woman with a slim body with a few curves. She was athletic, but classy, wearing a diamond necklace Yasmine's dad had gotten her with a simple blouse, jeans, and sneakers. She was swarmed by the girls as their phones were handed back. "Now, you girls have fun, but not too much fun, alright?"
Sam smiled gratefully. "Yes, Ms. W."
"Of course, mom," KT said, smiling at her and giving her a big hug. It was clear the two were related, except Kitty had lighter, thinner hair where KT had vibrant and thick hair. They had the same big eyes and delicate nose. "Though, it is a school dance. I don't know how much fun we can really have."
The girls laughed, knowing that there was plenty of fun to be had at a school function so long as a teacher or chaperone wasn't around. Their laughs carried them out the door to Moon's car, where they climbed in and hurried to leave.
As soon as they were out of the neighborhood, Yasmine turned in her seat. "Okay, Sam, tell us everything Kyler said about tonight."
Sam blushed, smiling from the backseat. "Well, he said he had something he wanted to show me. Something big."
The girls oohed and laughed. KT lightly shoved Sam, smiling at her. "He must really like you."
"I think so," Sam said. Her smile was short-lived. "I just hope my dad doesn't mess it up. He's super overprotective and embarrassing. I can't believe he's gonna be at the dance tonight."
"Yeah, kind of a bummer," Moon said, keeping her eyes on the road. She smiled despite it. "But he's not gonna bother us, right?"
"He's supposed to be a ghost," Sam confirmed.
"What about you, KT? Any guys you're hoping to dance with tonight?" Yasmine asked, smirking.
At the question, KT's mind immediately thought of Eli, but she shrugged instead of answering. She could feel her cheeks warming up, but she hoped it wasn't noticeable. "I don't know. I don't think so."
"You can't think of anyone you'd wanna see tonight?" Sam asked, leaning over with a teasing gleam in her eye. "Not one?"
Of course she could, but KT knew what reactions she would get from her friends if she told them. First, she was sure they didn't even know Eli's name, so she'd have to explain to them who he is. Then, once they figured it out, they would laugh and chastise her for thinking of someone like him as worthy of her time. She could hear Yasmine's sneer in her head already, He's a loser! Yeah, she didn't want that.
She shook her head. "Nope."
"What about that guy from the track team? The senior with the nice smile," Moon suggested. She hummed, taking up time to try and think of his name. "Brody?"
