Taehyun and Kai sat down and ate their ice cream in silence. I guess it became a trend among them to just sit in silence.
"Why did you save me?" Taehyun asked suddenly, "You don't even know me, I'm a stranger. Why would it matter to you if I died?"
Kai just sighed.
"Yah! Don't just sigh, answer my question!" Taehyun hit the other's shoulder and glared at him.
"Well, wether I know you or not, everyone deserves a chance at life. Just because we're not close doesn't mean I would just allow you to commit suicide."
"C'mon! You're extremely popular and have everyone fangirling over you. What's one less person on this earth?"
"Who said it was about me? I'm talking about your life, not mine." Kai smiled and Taehyun looked at him in shock, not expecting an answer like that.
"Your life is what was important to me, not mine. In that moment, you were the only person on my mind."
Taehyun went silent and just continued eating his ice cream, looking at the ground. Kai just smiled at him and did the same.
"I've already lost someone to suicide just recently, you are the last person that I ever want to see trying something like that.." Kai broke the silence with his voice softer than what it was before.
"Huh? You lost someone? Just recently?"
Kai nodded, "Yeah. A close friend of mine. Her name was Son Hyejoo. She had killed herself after her 3 other friends abandoned her. It happened just last week."
"Oh..I'm sorry to hear that."
"I guess we're both mourning the death of someone, what a coincidence!"
Taehyun smiled at that. He never thought that he would find joy over talking about someone's death, but someone just being with Kai made all his worries go away, even if he barely knew him. The boy was like a human serotonin.

The two boys walked out the ice cream parlor, and it was very dark. Only street lights lit the pathway, and they barely worked.
"Well, I had fun today. Now don't ever try hurting yourself again, okay?" Kai said that with a very demanding voice, as if he was trying to threaten him into not hurting himself.
"Alright, I won't."
"You promise?"
"I promise."
The two looked at each other and smiled. Kai brought his hand out, indicating a handshake.
"I'll see you at school tomorrow. If anyone hurts you just let me know and I'll beat them up!"
Taehyun scoffed, "You?! You beating someone up?! That's hard to believe."
"I'll do it!"
"Yeah, okay sure." Taehyun said with a hint of sarcasm in his voice. He grabbed the boy's hand and shook it. It indicated a promise. A promise that Taehyun wouldn't try hurting himself, and if he ever needed help, he could go to the one and only Hueningkai.
"Stay safe getting back home! Bye Taehyunnie!" Kai waved and walked away from him. His figure getting smaller and smaller. Something about the younger leaving and disappearing frightened him.
"Wait!" Taehyun called out to him and ran his way.
"Hm? What is it?"
"Well- um.." he hesitated to speak for a bit, "Thank you for saving me. As much as I tried to resent it back then, I really appreciate it. You honestly did make me feel better."
Kai showed off a bright, childish smile and pinched the other's cheek, "I told you ice cream would make you feel better!"
"It wasn't just the ice cream!" Taehyun exclaimed, "It was you in general, you made me happy."
"Hey stop it, you're gonna make me cry!"
"I'm also using this chance as an excuse to get you to walk home with me because I am scared." Taehyun mumbled the last part, but Kai still heard it clearly and his smile was even bigger.
"Alright then, lead the way!"
