There they were, at the police station for questioning. Kai was shaking a lot as they were walking in the building. How could he answer questions if he didn't even remember what happened? The entire interview would just be "I don't know." or "I don't remember." It was pointless but at the same time, it's just something that has to be done.
"When we walk in this building, I want you to answer all the questions the best you can, alright? And be honest! You don't want to lie to the cops about a situation like this! It makes you look suspicious!" Lea said as they walked towards the door, "I don't think I'm allowed to go in with you, but if they ask any questions that make you uncomfortable, let them know. I'm sure they'll understand, especially since you're still a minor. This country is a suck up for young people."
"Okay then..yeah I can do this! I think." Kai said with the tiniest bit of confidence. He waved to his sister and walked through the door. Wow. Suddenly all the confidence he had built up suddenly disappeared.
"Huening Kai right?" One of the police officers asked him
"Oh- uh..y-yeah."
"Alright, come with me. We're gonna ask you a few questions regarding the incident about your younger sister just for further investigation." The police officer said as she directed him to a room. Kai nodded and sat in one of the chairs.
"To start things off, how old are you?"
"16."
"Alright, if I ask any questions that make you uncomfortable in anyway, feel free to let me know."
Kai nodded.
"Regarding the situation, do you know what happened before?"
"Well, my older sister had left for the library to do some studying, leaving me and Hiyyih alone. After that, she suggested that we should made sandwiches. We went to the kitchen and as I was getting ingredients, everything just blacked out. I don't remember anything after that aside from finding her body." Kai said as he fidgeted with his hoodie strings.
The officer nodded as she wrote stuff down on a notepad, "About what you just said, do you know anything that could've caused that black out?"
Kai shook his head, "Not a clue."
"Do you have any diagnosed mental health issues?"
"Uh...I do actually. Last year I was diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder."
"Alright..do you think your disorder could relate to this case in any way?"
Kai shook his head, "Nope."
"What usually happens after your black out?"
"I don't know actually. After I black out I never remember anything that happens after."
"Do you possibly think that the black out could be...I guess a personality switch?"
"No? I don't think so at least. It could be possible? I don't know it's all so much!"
"It's alright, take your time! I don't want to add too much pressure onto you."
Kai nodded as he ran his fingers through his hair. He was bad when it came to patterns or noticing habits. If only he had Lea with him, he could possibly get the answer without having to stress about it.
"Excuse me, Officer Choi! We have the results about the fingerprints on the knife." a police officer said as they slightly opened the door.
"Oh- alright then! Kai, I'll be right back okay? Just wait here." Officer Choi said as she walked out the room, shutting the door behind her.
Kai just sat there as he got more and more nervous about the entire situation. The black out, the finger prints, just the entire situation in general. It was all stressing him out. All that could be heard was the air conditioning, the clinging of his shoe laces hitting the chair legs, and his heavy breathing.
"Kai, there's something I need to tell you. I allowed your sister to come in too just for comfort." Officer Choi said as she walked through the door with Lea.
"Hello Ningning!"
"Hi.."
Lea pulled a chair over and sat down next to Kai, giving him a smile of reassurance. It's like she knew he was panicking a lot, even when he tried hiding it as soon as they walked on. I guess that's just the older sister instinct.
"Now, please don't freak out. But as you heard before, the results for the finger prints came in."
Kai nodded and his leg started bouncing, Lea held his hand which seemed to calm him down. Just a little bit.
"I think it's best if you look at it yourself." Officer Choi handed a clipboard over to them and they soon started reading through it. Lea with a confused and concerned look on her face, she looked over at Kai, who was shaking as he was shaking and tears rolled down his face.
"T-This is a joke, right?"
"Kai Kamal Huening, you're the murderer."
A/N: We'll get to present time soon I swear just like- one or two more chapters of hyuka backstory
