No more a thing?
Present time
"And that's the end of it. Toriel kept me at the hospital for a few days since I was so shocked, and when I was ready to be dismissed, she brought me with her for a few days at her home: I didn't have the strenght to go at my own house, there were too many memories of Lauren. Ever since then, I reconsidered staying crowded places and not getting drunk for fun or mundan life: if any of those two things happened I wouldn't be who I am now.
I lately discovered that Toriel was a doctor for the High Palace, and after "I got better", they noticed that I had the right authority to supervise over people and they hired me as director of the lab after I graduated. It was still a shock for everyone since I was so young.
But sometimes, the guilt would take over me...and that's when I started working on the time machine. To stop me and Lauren from going to the dance party and get drunk" you said as you calmed down, talking for at least half an hour.
"So that's why you have a scar in your back..." was the only thing Gaster managed to say.
Gaster looked at you shocked, almost as if he didn't believe what he just had listened to. He had a rather terrified look on his face, and couldn't stop looking into your eyes.
"Why are you looking at me like that? Are you afraid of me now since you know I'm a murderer?" you asked, hoping to receive a no, not even having the strenght to cry though.
"Of course not! I just...this was a lot to listen to. I underestimated you: you are the strongest person I know. To be able to endure such torment...was there someone at least to comfort you?" he asked as a sad look now took place.
"Well, mostly Toriel...but I had to stand up by myself. Why do you think I wanted to search for my soulmate and had many relationships otherwise? I...admit I was scared. I didn't want to be left alone. I didn't want to face a situation where I would be left all alone. I needed someone to stand with me" you said, looking away at your hands.
"So that's why you hate the nickname maneater...and that's why you got angry when I said that I felt inferior towards you. It all...makes sense now. I was just remembering you of Lauren" he added.
Guilt was growing in his heart. He couldn't know that he was remembering you of what had happened, but he couldn't help but feel like he wanted to go back in time and prevent himself from spitting out things.
"Do you...consider me weak now?" you asked, bringing him back to reality.
He approached your face more and looked into your eyes, but found nothing but honesty, and innocence hidden for too long.
He pressed his hands against your cheek and rubbed his thumb on it.
"No. Never did and never won't. Have you listened to what I told you? You're the strongest person I know, and I think you've been strong for far too long"
That's when you both realised that your faces were just a few inches far from each other. When you realised it you looked at his lips, as he did the same, and silence grew in the room. Only your breaths could be heard.
Time felt like eternity, and as it passed, Gaster's face was slowly approaching. For some reason, you didn't feel anxious about it.
