Marigold's POV

2006 - 6th Grade

"Come on, Harry! You're going too slow!"

"Mari, the flowers aren't going anywhere." Harry rolled his eyes, continuing to pedal his bike as slow as possible.

"Maybe, but the sun's setting. Let's go!!" I shouted, racing towards the field of flowers by the pond. It was springtime, and the flowers finally started to bloom. As soon as my bike touched the grass, I jumped off, throwing it into the tall weeds and ran straight towards the field. Throwing my hands in the air, I sighed blissfully.

The flowers reached my knees, the air smelt like a mix of freshly cut grass, lilacs, and pond water. My knees hit the ground as I settled down in the bed of flowers surrounding me. I loved it.

I could hear Harry's heavy footsteps as he stomped towards where I laid down, he plopped next to me with a huff.

"Quit your huffing, you'll upset the flowers." I giggled, Harry rolled his eyes.

"You're telling me the flowers care if I complain?" He mumbled.

"You have to be nice to the flowers. Mom sings to her flowers to make them happier." I smiled, mom loves flowers. She's always talked about how she's going to open up her own flower shop, and I can pick all the flowers I could ever want.

"Well that sounds stupid." Harry said. I turned my head to look at him with a glare.

"You're stupid."

Harry laughed at my words and shook his head.

"We have to get back home or your mom's going to kill me." He sat up from his spot and held his hand out for me to grab onto.

"I don't want to go." I pouted, today was the last day of summer. That means school starts again tomorrow, 6th grade to be exact. I was dreading it, new school, new classes, new people. Harry was so excited to make new friends, but I hated the thought of losing him to other friends.

2008 - 9th Grade

"Come on, Petal. Put some pep into your step!" Harry chuckled beside me as I grudgingly walked with him to our bus stop. "First day of high school!" He grinned. I rolled my eyes at how happy he was for the first day of school. While he was excited I was filled with anxiety. I hated change.

"Yeah, yeah. You think we'll have some classes together?" I mumbled, we were lucky enough to have some classes together through middle school but I have a feeling that the chances of that would be slimmer now that we're in high school.

"Maybe." Harry shrugged, "But if not, I'm sure we'll find a way to see each other. Hopefully we'll have lunch together at least. It'll be fine." Harry bumped my shoulder with his, offering me a reassuring smile. I returned a small one before we got on the bus.

"I hear they have a really good art program, that's exciting." I hummed. Harry scoffed next to me.

"That's what you're excited about??" He chuckled. "I'm excited for all the girls." He smirked, this time it was my turn to scoff. I pushed his body away from me with a scowl.

"You're disgusting." I muttered, turning to face the window.

"I'm just kidding, petal!!" Harry laughed. "Besides, you're my best girl. Nobody else can compare to you." He bumped me with his shoulder once again. "Almost forgot! Guess what just bloomed in the garden today?" He grinned at me, bringing a fresh daisy up to my face.

A wide smile broke out on my face as I grabbed the stem, twirling it in my fingers.

"To calm your anxiety for the day. Even if I'm not with you, I'm right there." He smiled pointing at the flower.

No matter how much I tried to hide it, I knew my cheeks were now a crimson red.

2010 - 11th Grade

I honked the horn several times in a row before Harry's head popped out from his front door. I waved my hand quickly, trying to get him to hurry into the car. He placed the picnic basket in the backseat of the car before he slid into the passenger seat, slamming the door behind him.

"I passed!" I screamed out before he pulled my face into his, slamming his lips into mine.

"I knew you would, petal." Harry mumbled against my lips. "Now I don't have to drive you around all the time anymore." He smiled, settling in his seat and buckling his seatbelt. I stared at him with a pout on my face.

"I'm just kidding, I love driving you around." He chuckled, planting yet another kiss to the side of my cheek. "Where to?" He smiled at me.

"You know where." I pulled out of the driveway and made my way to the flower field. Our flower field. We came here often, whenever there were flowers, or if it just dried up grass. It was our little spot.

Once we settled in our usual spot by the pond, Harry pulled out all the food and drinks from the basket.

"For you, m'lady." He smiled, pulling out the last item from the basket. A single daisy. I smiled as Harry placed the small flower behind my ear. "Beautiful." He whispered, kissing my lips softly. A blush formed at my cheeks and I pushed his shoulder away playfully. Hiding my face in my hands in the process.

"Marigold." Harry said suddenly. I slowly lifted my face from my hands, a little stunned that he called me by my full name. He only did that when he was being serious. I stared at him with slightly wide eyes, lips parted.

"I love you, Marigold." His eyes never left mine as he spoke. "Not the 'we've been best friends forever' kind of love you." He continued. "I'm in love with you."

My breath got caught in my throat at his words. This was the first time he's said he's loved me in this type of way. I couldn't help myself. I grabbed his face and pulled his lips on mine, kissing him till we were out of air and breathing out an "I love you too."

2012- Summer after graduation

"Don't worry, petal. We're going to be just fine. A little bit of distance isn't going to ruin us. You're my best girl, remember? Nothing will ever change that." Harry whispered into my ear as I cried into his shoulder.

Today was our last day together before he moved away for college. After graduation we both mutually agreed that it would be best to end our relationship. We are both starting university, several states apart. Neither one of us thought a long distance relationship would be good for us.

Which brings us to where we are now. Saying our final goodbyes. Even if we broke up, Harry and I are best friends. The love we had for each other runs deep, which makes this goodbye brutally painful.

"Hey.. Hey- hey." Harry pulled my body away from his so he could look me in the eyes. My breathing became heavy as I heaved repeatedly, losing control of my breath. "Baby, please.. Calm down. I hate seeing you like this. Marigold." Harry's watery eyes scanned over my face repeatedly. His hands ran up and down my arms, doing whatever he could to soothe me.

"I- I'm sorry." I managed to say between sobs. Harry sighed deeply, bringing my body close to his once again, before placing a small kiss to my forehead.

"It's okay, petal.. I know." He continued to lull me as we laid in his bed. Seconds later my ear was filled with his sweet voice as he started to sing Somewhere Over the Rainbow softly.

"What are you doing?" I chuckled, lifting my eyes to meet his. I could barely see his face, the crack of light between his curtains being the only source of light in the room.

"A very beautiful girl once told me if I sing to my flowers, it'll make them happier."
