Marigold's POV
Daisy was crying relentlessly in her carseat. She thrashed around and kicked her legs violently, making sure to let everyone know she was upset. Nothing Harry or I said seemed to calm her down, she did not want to hear any of it.
"Daisy.. Baby, you have to calm down." Harry turned in his seat to look at her, she only cried louder at his words. I glanced in the rearview mirror to see her face. Her face was bright red, tears streaming down her cheeks. I looked back onto the road, looking for any place I could pull into so we could try to calm her down.
We had told her that Harry would be gone for a little while and in her head she thinks he'll be gone forever. I didn't blame her though, two weeks sounded like forever to me too.
"Hey- Hey.. It's okay." Harry softened his voice but she probably couldn't hear it over her own yelling. He looked at me, unsure of what to do in this situation. I knew what Daisy wanted, she wanted Harry. I sighed and pulled the car into a parking lot. Harry and I both unbuckled our seat belts and got out of the car to go to the back.
I scooted close to her, trying to get her to look at me but with just one glance at me a shrieking wail came out of her mouth and she turned her head away, continuing her crying. It's times like these where I have to remind myself that she's a baby and I am her mother and no matter how difficult and frustrating it is to have her crying like this, it's what babies do. Harry opened the door and scooted in, giving me an apologetic and reassuring look.
"Daisy.." He cooed at the small child who instantly stopped her wailing when Harry's hand met her cheek, wiping away the tears that covered her face. "Baby, it's okay. Why are you crying?" He asked Daisy. Daisy sniffled, hiccuping through her tears, trying to calm down.
"You leave." She mumbled quietly, her fingers poked Harry's face. Harry's shoulders slumped at her words. A frown was instantly on his face, I knew he felt guilty for having to leave for so long. Harry shifted in position, his head grazing the roof of the car.
"I know.. I don't want to leave, baby love." He pouted slightly. "But it won't be for long, I promise. Two weeks and I'll be home." He smiled at her, his hand stroking her hair.
Daisy's eyes watered some more but I could tell she was fighting the tears from falling. She nodded her head, still sniffling the snot that was dripping from her nose. Harry unbuckled her seatbelt, scooping her up and out of her car seat and leaning back into his spot, holding Daisy to his chest. I watched as his hands rubbed her back soothingly, I couldn't quite hear what he was saying but he whispered into her ear softly. They say like that for a while, Harry holding her close, trying to provide her any comfort he could.
Daisy loves Harry so much, these next two weeks were going to be rough, I already know it.
My eyes shifted over to the time on the dashboard, we had to leave soon or Harry would miss his flight.
"H.." I whispered, his eyes opened and he glanced over to me. I lifted my wrist up and tapped on it to let him know we had to go. He nodded his head and shifted, placing Daisy back in her car seat which caused her to instantly whine again.
"Shh, shhh.. It's okay. I'll sit back here with you, how does that sound?" Harry offered Daisy a smile. She nodded her head, allowing him to buckle her back into her car seat. I hopped back into the front seat, pulling out of the parking lot. Thankfully we weren't too far from the airport.
Daisy was quiet the rest of the ride, I would peer at the rearview mirror and could see Harry's head leaning against her car seat both of their eyes were closed. How could they have possibly fallen asleep that fast. When we got to a red light I turned my head to look at them, my heart feeling warm and fuzzy and I saw Daisy's tiny hand wrapped around Harry's finger, clinging on for dear life even in her sleep.
