Marigold's POV

Junior Year of High School

"You look very pretty today, Marigold." Mom smirked, standing by the kitchen island, glancing me up and down. I rolled my eyes, pulling on the fridge door to grab a bottle of water. I looked down at my outfit and tried to bite back a smile. It wasn't too different from what I normally wear, maybe just a little more cleavage... Just a little.

So yeah, lately I've been trying a little harder to make myself look more.. Presentable.

Mom hasn't stopped teasing me about it, knowing exactly the reason I've suddenly cared about my appearance. Or I guess who.

"If he doesn't like you for the way you are, then he's not the one." She patted my shoulder before grabbing her back and bidding her goodbye for the day. I huffed and flattened out the shirt on my stomach, there's nothing wrong with trying to look good.

My phone began to vibrate in my back pocket.

"I'm here, hurry up or we'll be late." Harry said through the phone quickly before hanging up. I grabbed my bag and keys before running out the door to the car. Harry scoffed almost immediately when I sat in the front seat.

"What?" I cocked my head to the side, glaring at him slightly.

"I see you're still trying to get Braden's attention." Harry rolled his eyes. His hand gripped the gear stick and yanked it into reverse. "I mean, seriously Marigold. You look like a clown with all that makeup on." He scoffed.

My jaw dropped from his words. There's no way he really just said that.

Instead of fighting back, I sunk into the seat, crossing my arms over my chest. Any confidence I had this morning is long gone. It only took two sentences from Harry to completely deflate any of the confidence I had.

I was annoyed to say the least.

I told Harry about my little crush on Braden in hopes that he would be a good best friend and wingman. Instead he's been nothing but a jerk about it, he's teased me nonstop and never forgets to mention how he thinks Braden is stupid and not worth my time.

He was wrong though. Braden is so sweet and not even to mention incredibly good looking. He was one of the only guys that ever gave me attention, not just in a friendly way. He was flirtatious for sure, but maybe he's actually into me.

He didn't say anything else on the drive to school, the most uncomfortable silence filled the car.

As soon as he put the car in park I was out of the car, slamming the door shut and stomping towards the school. Harry didn't call after me, I'm pretty sure he didn't even get out of the car yet by the time I was in the school building.

Harry's being a jerk but I didn't care because today is going to be a good day. It has to be. Today's the day that I tell Braden that I like him. I had it all planned out, after english class Braden always walks with me to the cafeteria. That's when I'll tell him.

I'm not too worried about what he would say, I'm positive that he likes me back. It was so obvious just by the way he talked to me. But Harry's words do have me doubting myself in the back of my mind. I just have to block him out.

The hours leading up to English class left me giddy and excited. My knee bounced repeatedly as I watched the clock, wishing that the hands on the clock would just move faster.

Then it happened, English class came. I sat down in my normal spot, a diagonal desk from Braden. I could hardly focus on class, everything the teacher was saying was in one ear and out the other. I mean how could I possibly pay attention when Braden was just right there, glancing back at me every so often.
