Cal's heart stopped once she saw the splatted blood on the floor. She felt sick to her stomach at the thought of it being JJ's. Tears pricked at her eyes, threatening to spill.

She felt like she was frozen in place. The red head let go of a shaky breath and pushed forward. She needed to know whether the blood belonged to her brother or father.

The girl jumped once she heard the crash come from JJ's room. Without even thinking, she rushed towards her brothers room in fear of Luke still hurting him.

A relief set over her once she saw that JJ was just pushing a few clothes into a bag. She went to step forward, causing the floorboard to creak and making JJ spin around.

Cal gasped at the state of her brother. The bloody lip, the black eye and the bruises on his chest were horrific. It wasn't the worst that she had seen Luke do, but it was the worst that she had seen in a while.

"JJ, what hap-"

"Don't Cal." JJ's eyes filled with tears, he turned away from the girl and pulled a shirt over his head.

He didn't want his sister to see what Luke had done to him. All JJ wanted to do was the right thing for once. He just wanted to pay the restitution money and get back to his normal life.

The girl wanted to reach forward and comfort her brother and comfort him. But she knew that there wasn't anything that she could say that would make him feel better.

"We need to get out of here. We're not coming back. Ever." JJ held his head up high.

He turned to face his sister, who was anxiously biting her bottom lip. She knew it was for the best. Their house was toxic and abusive. But this was the place she grew up, the place she had memories of her mother, memories of her and JJ when they were just kids. At some point this house was a happy house.

"Take anything that means something to you. Pack it into a bag. Anything that's replaceable, leave."

Cal nodded, she tried to muster up a small smile to fake confidence about leaving their home, but she couldn't. Instead she lowly turned on her heels and headed to her bedroom.

The only things that she desperately wanted to take were her letters and the first family photo that was taken when her and JJ were just born. It was the only photo of her mother that still remained after Luke destroyed them all.

"What do you think you're doing?" Luke seethed as he looked at his daughter, holding the photo of his wife. "Where did you get that?"

Cal quickly put the photo behind her back, not wanting Luke to destroy the only evidence left that her mother did exist and they were once upon a time happy.

"Give it me." Luke placed his hand out with a blank expression. "Now, Callista."

"No." Cal's voice quivered. She was terrified. "You're not taking her." She was adamant not to give up the photo of her mother.

"Have you seen your brother? Do you want to end up like him?" Luke seethed, desperately wanting to destroy the photo. He didn't want the reminders.

The red head gulped. He was threatening her. She knew that it wasn't anything new, but it was terrifying each any ever time it happened.

Luke laughed at the girl, clenching his fist and without even giving her a chance to respond, he swung. He needed someone much weaker than JJ. He needed someone to be the brunt of his anger.

Cal fell to the floor with a thud. Her head hit the ground and a piercing squeal rang through her ears. Her vision was blurry for a moment. She didn't get a chance to recover before Luke was kicking her stomach.

She let out whimpers every time. She quickly used her arms to cover her face. She wanted to shout JJ, but she didn't want him to get hurt anymore.

JJ sprinted into Cal's room once he heard the crash. His eyes landed on Luke kicking her whilst she was tightly screwed up into a ball to protect herself. He grabbed the lampshade off the bedside table and swung it around Luke's head.

He waited until Luke was down to rush over to his sister. His hand gently rested on her shoulder. He watched as she thrashed around in panic before relaxing once her eyes met his.

Almost instantly the girl broke down into a sob. JJ felt guilty for the fact that she had taken a beating. He riled up his dad. He made him angry and Cal became the subject of that anger.

"Come on, Cal, we're leaving." JJ slowly helped his sister up from her spot on the ground.

He placed the letters into her duffel bag. He didn't know what they were but he knew that they were important to her as every time they left, she always took them with her. He also grabbed the photo of their mom and placed it in her bag.

JJ watched as she grabbed a few clothes before shoving them into the bag. He knew that they weren't hers or his, but he didn't know who's they were.

"I wasn't going to let him destroy her again." Cal whispered, wiping the blood from her cut lip and spitting the blood from her mouth down onto Luke, who laid down lifelessly on the floor.

"I know." JJ whispered, placing a gentle kiss on his sisters head as a tear rolled down his cheek and onto the top of her head. "She's safe now, because of you."

Cal nodded, grabbing her bag, she looked down at Luke once again before she left the house for good.
