ACT TWO

Cal rushed down stairs of the Cameron household with Wheezie. She wanted to be there for the girl when they arrested Ward. But what she didn't expect was to see JJ and the others. Their eyes lingered on the girl, their mouths agape. She was the last thing that they were ever expecting to see.

"Wheezie. Wheezie!" Sarah shouted as she ran up and hugged her younger sister.

The red head just started at JJ, her heart physically hurt. He wasn't here for her. None of them were. They were all here to see Ward get arrested. They were being selfish.

"Cal." JJ went to step forward in shock. "You're awake."

JJ didn't know what to say. His heart was racing, he hadn't known how long she was awake. He didn't understand why she didn't call him.

"Glad you noticed." Cal raised her brows and pursed her lips. She wasn't going to give her brother the time of day.

The boy reached out for his sister, making her quickly bay away his hand. She didn't need his pity now. She clenched her jaw and instead turned to face Wheezie.

"Go inside, little dove. I'll be inside soon."

Hesitantly, Wheezie looked between Sarah and Cal. It was clear to see that the girl was struggling between listening to Cal and staying beside Sarah. But instead of disagreeing, Sarah nodded towards the girl, allowing Wheezie to relax and walk back inside the house with Rose.

"Wards on the druthers. You should go down." Cal stared blankly towards Sarah.

Sarah ran down to the docks without another word. She wanted to be there with her father, try to convince him to go peacefully with the police. But the others, they stayed.

Cal rolled her eyes and went to walk away from them, she wasn't in the mood to deal with their drama or opinions. They had fucking hurt her.

"Why didn't you call?" JJ questioned, trying to rack his brain, he hadn't had any missed calls from her or seen her around the island, which meant that she did a pretty good job at avoiding him.

Cal scoffed, turning on her heel to face the blonde boy.

"Why didn't I call?" She paused, making everyone just nod in response. "Why didn't you fucking visit? Why did you leave your sister alone in hospital? Why did my so called best friend not visit once, Kiara? Why did your parents visit me more than you, Pope?"

Pope lowered his head guiltily. He knew that he should have visited her more whilst she was at the hospital. But every time he brought it up to the others, they show him down and told him that she wouldn't notice if they came or not.

"We had things going on." Kie cut in before anyone else could say anything.

"Oh what? By things going on you mean, the gold?" Cal chuckled, running her hand through her hair frustratedly. "Yeah I know all about that. And so do other people, but they still fucking made time for me."

"You're being selfish, Callista." JJ snapped.

Cal almost choked on her breath. Selfish? She was being selfish?

"You're calling me selfish! I almost died to save your ass. Luke hasn't touched you since has he? And not just cause he's in fucking jail, JJ. But because I told him it was me or you, he couldn't hurt us both. I sacrificed myself for you. Like I have done my entire life." A stray tear rolled down the girls cheek. "So call me selfish all you like, but all I wanted was for my family to care about me."

"Maybe if you weren't keeping the fact that you were fucking Rafe Cameron from me-things would've been different."

Cal's eyes darkened and an anger like no other filled her. She stormed over to JJ, who was looking at her with a straight face, his jaw clenched.

"Fuck you." She pushed him back, tears running down her face. "Fuck you, JJ."

"You're becoming more and more like dad every day." JJ seethed angrily, pushing the girl back onto the ground.

Cal felt her palms graze against the floor. Her heart had broken. All from a boy she swore to love and protect since the moment she was born.

"JJ that's enough." Pope pulled the boy back hesitantly.

"We should get down there for Sarah." Kie suggested, her eyes lingering on Cal in disgust as they walked away.

It was in that moment that Cal realised that family went beyond blood. It went beyond those friendships made as children. She didn't need them.

All she needed, was Rafe.
