"What do you mean?" Tsukishima asked as most other jaws were practically on the floor.
"He kept his eyes closed from the moment he jumped to the moment he hit the ball," Daichi explained what he had seen. "That means Kageyama made a pinpoint set into Hinata's palm when he wasn't even looking at the ball! And he delivered it with perfect accuracy at the exact moment Hinata swung his arm."
"I-I just did what Crow said to do..." The two first years spoke in sync, startling each other.
"He wasn't even talking to you, boke!"
"I-I thought he was giving all around advice!" Hinata defended himself, drawing a sharp exhale from the referee. Everyone immediately whipped to face him, and what they saw made them all gasp. Crow was smiling.
"For the first time, I'd say that went well," He mused. "But you do need to aim, Hinata, so try to keep your eyes open."
"Roger that senpai!" Hinata saluted. After that, a bunch of fails occurred, but Crow could tell that slowly but surely Kageyama was getting the hang of it. Since he'd never tried it like this before, it was natural to fail, fail, fail and fail some more. The true pay off was when they finally mastered it, and from the look on his face, Crow could tell that the setter was enjoying this new challenge.
"The hell are you grinning for?! Screw you! That's the second time you hit my face!"
"I can't believe this," Tsukishima grumbled as Daichi stood next to him. "That one earlier was just dumb luck, yet they keep trying it over and over."
"Hinata'll probably keep jumping a million more times," He smiled.
"You're not doing this on purpose, are you?" Hinata asked as he rubbed his cheek.
"Yeah, it certainly is unbelievable. It's not that easy to trust someone completely, especially not the guy you consider your greatest rival," Daichi hummed. "But Crow's not the type to give out impossible tasks, so I'm sure Kageyama will get it."
"By the way," Yamaguchi spoke up, drawing their attention. "What's up with this Crow guy?"
"What do you mean by that?" The captain asked, genuinely curious as to what he was trying to get at.
"I mean," He went on to explain, "No one really questions him, and does whatever he tells them too. From an outside perspective, it looks like he's the one in charge," He immediately gasped. "Not to say that you're not, captain--"
"Haha, it's fine," Daichi waved the comment off. "I can see why it would seem that way, and in a way it is true. Crow's our best player," He explained. "He can hit, pass, set, block and serve better than anyone here, but since he can't do all of those things, we usually use him as a middle. He's also really good at gaging people and their abilities, so we all listen to his advice since that means he thinks we can handle it," He suddenly snorted. "As for the naps, well, he's just eccentric."
"I think it's because he doesn't sleep much at night," Suga piped up with a smirk. "Cause he's terrorizing children in their dreams with that monotone face of his."
"With the right lighting, that would be terrifying!" Tanaka agreed.
"I'll never forget the day I met him in an alleyway," Asahi shivered at the memory.
"Damn, this isn't working..." Hinata whined from the court, still rubbing his cheek. "Still," He brought his hand down, gazing at it before looking up and squeezing it in a fist. Crow soon called for the next serve, which Tanaka received nicely.
"Nice recieve!" Kageyama said as he moved to adjust himself under the ball.
"I bet he's gonna mess up trying to set for that midget again," Tsukishima mused. "We just need to mark Tanaka--" Just as he said that, Hinata sped in. "Get over here!" He yelled back to Yamaguchi. However, it didn't matter as the ginger bolted for the other side of the court, leaving the blockers in the dust as Kageyama shot the ball directly into his hand.
Crow whistled, signalling the point to them before gesturing to where the ball had fallen. "Yes!" The two first years fist pumped to themselves. Soon, another shoot went through, the scores turning into 24 H/K/T and 23 T/Y/D. "They're one point away from winning the first set," Kinoshita commented after flipping the score.
"His sets are rapidly becoming more accurate," Suga observed. "Is this how good a setter Kageyama really is?" He asked himself. Crow hummed, fingering the whistle as he waited for everyone to get to their positions so he could signal serve.
They did, and the ball went over and was returned. "I won't let you dominate!" Tsukishima jumped to block Hinata, so of course Kageyama, having improved by leaps and bounds as a setter in just that one set, sent the ball to Tanaka, who scored easily.
"You won't even get near the ball if you leave him free," Ennoshita commented as the score flipped to 25 and Crow whistled extra long to signal the end of the set along with motions of his arms for them to move off the court for a break between sets.
"Dammit," Tsukishima grumbled.
"How'd you like that?" Tanaka stripped his shirt off again. "Well, Tsukishima? Didn't you say you'd target and crush Hinata and me?"
"Yeah!" Hinata agreed.
"Well, go ahead! If you can that is!"
"If you can, that is!" Hinata repeated.
"Why are you running your mouth, Tanaka?" Suga yelled.
"Yeah, why?" Ennoshita demanded. "You can only spike because of those first years!"
"Quit acting like a hot shot!"
"Keep your shirt on, cueball!"
"Alright, which one of you just casually insulted me?!" Tanaka pointed angrily.
"Frankly," They moved on with their conversation, leaving Tanaka high and dry. "Tsukishima's team had better figure out a way to stop Kageyama and Hinata or else they're gonna have a hard time, considering they lack attacking firepower."
"Time to start the second set," Crow blew the whistle while signalling for the two teams to change sides. The second set went much better for the first year duo, ending at 21 to 25. However, they were practically puddles on the floor once the final point was assigned from how tired they were.
From watching all of that, Crow was starting to get antsy.
