I knocked on the door and a "come in" came as an answer.
I pulled down the handle and entered his office, immediately I was embraced by his delicious cologne.
Turning to close the door I shut my eyes close and inhaled as much of that scent as possible, as if that was the last time I would have had the opportunity to do that.
After I closed the door behind me I turned in his direction.
"Good evening, Mr Morello"I greeted; that was the first time he asked me to meet him during my night shift which no longer consisted in guarding Mr Morello but the mansione, it was really boring honestly but that's the job I'm being paid for.
Since I started this shift we haven't seen each other very often and the few times we met we nodded our heads towards each other and went our separate ways and, although it may seem like something small it was actually a really big step forward than when he ignored me.
Our professional relationship was finally going normally, and I was actually glad about it.
"Good evening"
He replied looking up from his laptop on which he was working.
Looking at him I noticed that his hair was a little messy probably due to the many times he passed his hand through them which I noticed he does very often when he is stressed."You can sit down Ms Williams"
I did as he told me and took a seat in the usual chair in front of him, put both hands on my thighs and waited for him to tell me why he had requested me there.
While waiting, I unconsciously start staring at his face that, with the light coming from the computer made him look even more ... attractive if possible.
His plump pink lips were redder than usual and still had the slight mark of his teeth which made me assume he had been biting them a lot, just as he did when he was nervous or annoyed; his eyebrows were furrowed slightly and his eyes narrowed a little in concentration."Ms Williams why are you staring at me?"
He asked in a deep voice still not taking his eyes off the screen and, not taking my eyes off him I replied.
"I was just wondering why you called me here tonight when you know I'm on my shift. Sir."
He just looked up at me with a smirk."I need you to help me with some documents, as long as it's not a problem with you."
He told me.
"I thought you had a secretary for this. Also, one day a certain someone told me that I shouldn't do tasks that are not within my competence..."
I answered him slowly with a smirk that reflected exactly the one he had.Closing his eyes for a few seconds he released a deep chuckle leaning against the back of his chair crossing his arms on his chest and bringing a finger to his lips, that had still the sign of a smile on them.
It was the first time I heard his laugh and honestly I found it very pleasant.
"Colpito e affondato(Hit and sunk)"
He said in ... Italian.
Ì guessed, at first, that Mr Morello could have Italian origins because of his surname and also from the thick Italian accent his pronunciation took when he got angry, which happened quite often, but I didn't expect it to sound this good when he spoke it.If y'all are wondering how I know Italian the answer is that my fathe- I mean, Joseph Williams was a famous businessman and since I was a child he and my mother wanted me to learn as many languages as possible and one of those was Italian.
I've chosen for now not to tell him anything about the fact that I could understand him.
In fact, the only person who knew I could speak that language was Axel and I honestly preferred it to remain that way.Lowering my head I giggled a little too but when I raised it up again I saw that Mr Morello was already looking at me and a mix of emotions crossed his eyes.
Clearing my throat I asked him where the documents I was supposed to work on were, he passed them to me and explained that I should point out any errors or flaws in there and then correct them on the computer.
It seemed a simple and quite odd job for a bodyguard to do, but it was better than standing outside all night doing nothing at all.Without saying anything else I started to do the job assigned to me while Mr Morello did his own.
We were both working in a comfortable silence where the only sound that could be heard was our fingers pressing the keyboard of the laptops."Can I ask you something Ms Williams?"
Mr Morello said after about ten minutes interrupting the silence."Yes, sir"
I said still typing not raising my head."Why did you choose to go to a male military camp?"
That question made me stop what I was doing, as memories of the day I was abandoned in that place started to resurface once again.
"I'm sorry I-you don't have to answer if-"
"No, it's fine."
I interrupted, giving him a small smile that didn't reach my eyes.Talking about this topic has never been easy for me.
The pain I've carried in for all these years was mine.Mine alone.
I never told anyone in detail what happened to me simply because I didn't want them to notice how broken I really was inside.
To see how much I was suffering cause, although I no longer shed tears that pain was always there in my heart and I was sure it would have remained there forever."I didn't choose to go to that military camp. I-"
I cleared my throat trying to recompose myself before speaking again.
"I was...abandoned there when I was 17 and I've been in that place for six years."Once I finished I looked at Mr Morello expecting to see an expression that held pity towards me but I did not find any.
"You're a strong woman Ms Williams."
He said after a long pause and, afterwards those words I felt my cheeks warm up and my hearth did something weird that I've never felt before.
It wasn't the first time someone described me as a strong person but the way he said it .... there was something different. Something that made that sentence and made Me feel different.
After that I felt like the mood got a little too serious to my liking, so I decided to play it down a bit by flipping my hair over my shoulder with one hand rolling my eyes playfully.
"I know, but thanks tho" I said blinking several times with a silly smile.
Afterwards a few seconds of silence we looked at each other and both started laughing but not long after, we started working again, however, unlike before this time having little conversations here and there to pass the time.
