I felt someone grab me by the waist and drag me away into an even darker alley than the one I was just not so long ago.
As soon as I was able to turn around I pushed the person who was holding me against a wall and put my gun to his head with such speed I even was surprised of.
My eyes widened seeing who was in front of me.
Among all the people I could meet at night in an alley, in front of me was Damiano with one of his usual smirks looking down at me totally unfazed by the situation."What are you doing here"
I whispered-yelled at him, still looking around in case the men from earlier came looking for us or happened to see us.
"I could ask you the same question"
He said but that wasn't the time to screw around so I just rolled my eyes.
Then he signaled me with a gesture of his head to move the gun from his temple and so I did muttering an incomprehensible apology.Sighing I put a hand on my face and when I removed it I was silent for a moment trying to metabolize everything that had happened in those few minutes but it was all really too confused so, I decided to do the only thing that at the moment seemed reasonable to me, which was going to the place where they killed that man; I wanted to see again with my own eyes what happened; perhaps seeing the corpse and repeating the scene in my head would have somehow made everything become clearer.
I walked away and headed again in the direction of that alley; I heard Damiano's voice calling me but I refused to care about anything that he wanted to tell me.
"Wait what are you doing"
He said now standing in front of me, blocking my path.
"Didn't you see what those men in black did? They killed somebody in that fucking alley!"
I yelled-whispered again, both in frustration and confusion, this situation was nothing short of unbelievable and the fact that I seemed the only one to find it that way made me almost as confused.Damiano stood there looking at me for a while.
Even in the dark and from the little light offered by the light poles I could see that the way he looked at me well... the expression he had staring at me was the one with which you look at a child telling you for the first time they have an imaginary friend.Did he think I was crazy?
He had to be not too far from me when the gun shot was heard.
Then why is he looking at me as if I was some mental hospital patient."Kyla maybe ... what you saw was the result of you drinking a little too much tonight. It's better I take you home now, come on."
Okay, so besides being crazy he's also calling me a liar too.
It gets from better to worse here uh?
"Damiano"
I said trying hard to keep my voice calm and steady.
"I'm not crazy, I may have drunk a little too much but what I saw in there"
I indicated with the index the direction from which we arrived, from which he dragged me.
"It is not the work of my imagination; I saw, I heard people talking and then there was a shot followed by a body falling to the ground so I refuse to be treated like someone who needs a psychiatric consultation."I said and at the end of the sentence I had to take a breath from the speed with which these words left my mouth.
"Kyla I'm not calling you crazy but it's night, it's dark and the noise you say you've heard could've been just some kid who fired a firecracker or something of the sort I-"
I looked at him dumbfounded and, since I refused to believe that everything I saw and heard just a while ago was only in my head, I took his wrist and dragged him with me to that alley."Don't move"
I whispered once we both were against the wall pointing the gun in front of me; with a quick gesture I moved away from the wall and stood at the entrance of the alley expecting to find someone else there but there was no one.
There was nothing left, no one, the alley was totally empty.
The body was gone.
It was a simple desolate alley in the middle of the night.
