"Mason?"
I said as he approached me furrowing my eyebrows in total confusion.
"What you doing here Kyla"
"What am I doing? Rather why are you here"
I was glad to see him after all those months but 1- I thought he was still at the military camp and 2- I didn't expect to meet him in this place at such an event.

"I'm here for a work commitment, what about you?"
He said giving me a tight smile not seeming very convinced himself of the answer but I didn't give it much thought.

"I'm here with my boss."
I replied cutting short not wanting to go into details, before we could say anything else Axel, who was wearing a dark blue suit with a black shirt underneath, arrived as well.

Damiano is a lucky bastard I hope he knows that.

As soon as Ax saw Mason he had the same reaction as me and after exchanging greetings Mason left leaving me and Axel alone.

"How you doing peach?"
He asked with a sympathetic smile to which I just shrugged in response, he wrapped an arm around my shoulders and we started off through the crowd.
"You look gorgeous tonight by the way"
He placed a kiss on the side of my head making me lift my face smiling softly at him.

"You too Ax"
"I know"
He replied before laughing making me smile too.
"Oh shit I forgot..."
He started saying before reaching for something in his pocket.
"Here's the headset for tonight, everyone in security must have one"
I nodded before placing it in my ear, a few seconds after I heard a voice informing us that we had to get into position.

"Where is everyone?"
I asked Ax somewhat hesitantly
"They are at the table, we have to go there too"
He replied and with a sigh I tried to prepare myself mentally to see him.

Once at the table I greeted everyone but there was no sign of Nicolai until I moved my gaze across the room and there I saw him in all his glory, with a glass of champagne in one hand while the other one was in his pocket, talking to another man around his sixty.

When he moved his gaze towards me for a second he had a surprised expression that soon turned into an apologetic one, at that point I started heading to where he was; despite everything I was still his bodyguard so I wasn't allowed to lose sight of him that night.

When I got to him the first one who greeted me was the man Nicolai was talking to shortly before who immediately left shaking Nicolai's hand and wishing us a good evening leaving me there alone with him.

"You're beautiful tesoro(darling)"
He said giving me a faint smile that I didn't reciprocate but instead I shifted my gaze over his shoulders cursing my heart that was still going crazy hearing his voice and smelling his scent.

"We have to go to the table with the others Mr Morello"
I warned before turning around trying not to let him notice my glossy eyes but he stopped me grabbing me by the waist causing me to stiffen at that contact.

"Can we talk Kyla? Please"
For a split second I thought I heard his voice breaking a little but I probably imagined it; when I was about to open my mouth, however, a voice on the microphone coming from the stage in the middle of the room interrupted me.

So I started walking towards the
table making sure that Nicolai was following me, once we arrived we sat next to each other not because I wanted to but as I said before I could not lose sight of him especially with all the people who were there that evening.
After about an hour the same voice at the microphone mentioned Nicolai's name and a series of applause filled the room, Nicolai then stood up and I followed him as we both made our way towards the stage.
