We were staring at each other for what seemed like a life, It was like we were staring into each others souls. But scared that he might notice how much my soul is actually damaged I looked away first, finding the floor much more interesting all of a sudden.
I'm not a person to back off, but the fact that someone could read me and find out what is that I'm really feeling makes me uncomfortable.I closed my eyes for a moment trying to remember who it is that I really am or rather who I have become.
I am Kyla Williams, a soldier and soldiers do not back off, they fight for what they believe in always and in any case.
And with this reminder I raised my head, straightened my posture and began to advance towards Mr Nicolai, not interrupting eye contact this time.
I could feel everyone's eyes on me but I tried to ignore them by repeating my mantra in my head.
I was getting closer and closer to him until in the blink of an eye I was in front of a sitting Nicolai Morello. Even though I was in front of my boss my confidence did not fade.He was staring at me with those cold, gray eyes that held something more I couldn't get my hands on.
His gaze was like that of a predator that would attack its prey at any time. After a few minutes he finally started talking.
"Ms Williams could you remind me at what time you were asked to be down here for breakfast this morning?"
He asked raising an eyebrow.
"At 8:00 o'clock, Sir"
I said not breaking our stare contest."Right, and is there any particular reason why you're almost twenty minutes late?"
"No, Sir there isn't"
I said trying hard to hold back the rude answer I was about to give him.
This man certainly made it his goal to piss me off."Maybe you're not taking this job you've been offered seriously."
That was offered to me??
I worked my ass off for this opportunity, and now he's telling me HE offered ME this job?
This better be a fucking joke."You didn't offer me anything Sir, I earned this job"
As I said it the room become even quieter than before.
Mr Nicolai leaned back against his chair as if what I said caught him off guard.
I wouldn't be surprised to know no one has ever put him in his place."Excuse me?"
He said tilting his head a little to the side.
Now the room was dead silence, no one dared to utter a word.
"I said that I earned this jo-"
I couldn't even finish the sentence that a gun was pointed at my head.
Is he for real right now?
Is this some kind of dictatorship?
I can't say what I think that a gun is being pointed at my.Fucking.Head.
Unbelievable. Just unbelievable.I looked at him with a bored look not even flinching at the sudden action.
I won't say I'm used to someone pointing a gun at my head but I've been trained not to show fear in front of the enemy and that's exactly what I'm going to do.We were both quiet now, not taking our eyes off each other.
Suddenly a smirk appeared on his face but went away just as fast, giving me the impression that I imagined it.
He then turned around excusing himself from the rest of the people at the table who were staring at us with wide eyes."Follow me"
He said already walking away.
Sighing I started following him, ready for another scolding.
