When I got out, Falcon, was already giving a warm pre-war speech to the Flock that listened intently. I silently stood at the back and tried to blend in, only receiving a few glares for my untimely arrival.
Beside Falcon, I saw Enrique, my sworn love-promised to by the excellent dating service in Avon. He stood proudly and tall, dark black hair, golden eyes that surfed over the crowd until his eyes met mine. I instantly felt my face get hot as I tried to look away, but felt caught in his stare. He flashed a grin at me and flapped his snowy white powerful wings, hovering through the crowd and came landing gently beside me, drawing the attention of the whole Flock including Falcon who even slowed his speech, watching as the rest of them did as Enrique grabbed my face and kissed me hard, passionately and without a care of who watched.
"Hello, there," he said grinning with a tender glint in his eye as he pulled away for a breath, "Nice of you to drop in, tardy."
I bit my lip that was now probably bruised and smacked him. "Was that really necessary?" I hissed under my breath.
Enrique laughed and grabbed my waist, pulling me to him teasingly. "Unless you beg for more."
I reeled back to hit him, but Falcon cut in irritably. "If you two lovers are done and don't need a room or anything, I'd like to continue."
I instantly shoved Enrique away, giggling as he grabbed for me again, making Falcon sigh almost hopelessly and turn back to the Flock that listened. I tried to.
"Tonight we are flying out to Nistalia, a small fae city just south from here. There were several disturbances alerted recently. Demonic disturbances," Falcon added for effect. "We're going to investigate quickly and properly. Fly together as one, fight together as a Flock."
The team gave a powerful hooray and began to part to the Oura exit, Falcon leading the way.
Enrique walked alongside me as he picked at my feathers and jumped away when I swung at him.
"Stop!" I hissed warningly. "You got me into trouble!"
He only giggled as he swooped in, snatching another kiss. "Falcon doesn't care."
I rolled my eyes and shoved him away. "C'mon, let's keep up."
There were about twelve of us, not the biggest group, but our fighting showed. Most guardians were either dead or being recruited rather than working full time as a fully trained Guardian like me. Falcon had recruited me when I was a fledgling, rescuing me from a burning angel city outside of Avon borders. It was him who'd brought me to safety, taught me to fly and fight, welcoming me a new home amongst people who I now called family. He was the only family I had or that I remembered. I kept a steady eye on him as we neared the exit.
Suddenly a new face moved in the corner of my eye and I turned to stare at him. It wasn't often that new recruits were suddenly accepted into our ranks. I hadn't even seen this one around Oura's training dorms.
