"Lilith."

          "Yes?"

"Is it true you consorted with a traitor and dealt with demons?"

          "Well, no—"

"Can you please tell the court why?"

I cleared my throat and ran my flat sweaty palms over my legs. The courtroom was dead silent, so quiet you could hear my panicked breathing and my heart racing from across the room. I sat, shackled to a chair, looking out to the room, while Dolorian circled me with her daunting golden gaze.

"I never meant to. I would never make a deal with a demon—I didn't even know he was one. I just wanted Falcon's death to be avenged," I said truthfully.

She nodded. "Yes, so after the city was attacked and the rule was no one was to leave or come in, you left in search for sweet revenge?"

I swallowed. "Yes, but I can explain—"

"You're in the Guardianship are you not?"

I blinked. "What does that have to—?"

"Answer my question!" she barked. "Are you in the Guardianship or not?"

          "Yes, I am."

"And in the guardianship does it not require the highest level of obedience?"

          "Yes but—"

"So, on that day you proved to be deceitful, un-loyal, and selfish, did you not?" she countered, glaring down on me.

"No!" I bellowed, sitting tensely in my chair. "I'm a good Guardian—"

"You didn't show it. You just now said that you left the city which was in ruin, to find this traitor friend of yours—"

"He wasn't my friend—!"

"Just to seek revenge for your now dead mentor and commander!"

"I only did what was right!" I yelled, gripping the arms of my chair until the whites of my knuckles showed. "I only did what many of you were too afraid to do!" I let my eyes travel around the room, passing through all the open and widened terrified looks. Among them I saw Gwen and Thor. Against the side of the room, sitting at a desk, Enrique watched me with his jaw twitching and his brooding gaze on me. "I did what any true Guardian would do; gave a damn about our pride, about our leadership and about our dominance!" Spit flew through my teeth as I glared at her. "I would've loved to see you do the same."
