Sticking to the shadows and flapping my wings without a sound just like Falcon had taught me, I'd slipped right past the guards, our 'great wall of defense', and into the back night.

The sky had begun to ripen to a deep peachy haze as dawn approached. My wings pushed onwards as I moved through the sky, to where, I didn't know, I just followed my gut.

The sky reeked of demonic stench. Its dank, smelly sulphur odor wafted up my nose and fed the burning hot flames that were eager to put an end to this once and for all.

Lilith.

I paused, the wind brushing across my face. I slowed as I searched the sky. Had I just heard my name?

"Lilith!"

"LILITH!"

I turned around my ears following the little voice that floated over the air to see Gwen, vigorously flapping her wings as she flew after me, face blotched red with exhaustion and panted wildly.

"Gwen," I howled. as she danced over to me. "What are you doing? You're going to get in trouble!"

Her eyes rounded and for a second I thought she was going to collapse. "Get in trouble? You...should...talk," she said in-between gasps. "What do you think you're doing besides getting yourself killed? Do you know how many rules your breaking right now?"

I growled under my breath and looked to the horizon that was slowly melting with the sunrise. It was always harder to find demonic hideouts after daybreak. I was wasting time.

"Gwen you have to leave," I pressed. "I need to do this, please, just go back before they've found out you've gone."

She shook her head wildly. "I can't-I can't leave you to die out here alone. If you're going then so am I."

I gritted my teeth. "Gwen," I barked. "Leave, now, you and I both know you can't fly as long as I can. You'll faint."

Her bottom lip quivered as she looked at me. "You can't just leave, Lilith. You mean something to people. Don't go wasting your time for someone you can always sink your blade into another day."

My wing joints began to cramp just hovering like this. "Gwen you don't understand, Falcon-"

"Falcon wouldn't want this; he wouldn't want you breaking the rules just to avenge his death. There are other ways, Lilith. This is what the bad guys want." She gasped as she struggled to stay in the air. "Don't let them get what they want, they're not worth it, don't let them draw you in."

I looked at Gwen's tired little red face. My gut twisted as I looked to the sky that began to lighten, the dawn melting the violet sky away. Before too long it would be day, and looking for any demonic activity would be near impossible. I was probably in enough trouble as it was, breaking all the laws for this little hunting expedition. I couldn't keep going. Gwen was right; I couldn't go on alone no matter how determined I was.
