I wasn't sure if I was going to make by the third glass. I'd tried just quickly ramming the booze down my throat, but my chest burned too much and I nearly blacked out halfway through the third. I was cheered on by a few bystanders watching warily, stepping out of the way as I wobbled unsteadily on my stool.
"Jeez, you're drunker than I am!" Raven said looking a lot cooler than she had been.
I felt cross-eyed and moved like it, but I composed myself as I slid off my stool with new found confidence. "Dance with me," I coughed, reaching for Raven's arm and dragging her behind me like an anchor as we descended into the dance floor.
"Love the new you, Lilith!" Raven said with a bright smile as I nearly toppled over myself in these clumsy heels.
I grinned and starting banging against the music with Raven alongside me.
Before too long, we'd received the looks from many people around us. I feared I was drunk dancing, but from the smooth smiles and wanting eyes, I knew I was doing something right. Raven didn't tire either as we both set the club on fire, the air around us fuzzy like a winter coat. By accident, my gaze whirled around the room, through the sea of faces, landing on Demetrius whose eyes burned a hole through the darkness. His gaze landed temptingly on me, his graceful dancing with his partner hadn't dimmed in the slightest, but his attention was surely on more than that dancing ornament in front of him.
I smiled victoriously as I threw my hands in the air, tossing and rolling through the pumping beat.
Faces and lights faded into a blur and my head swam through the alcohol that coursed heavily through my brain, but my heart pumped through it all. I threw my head back and laughed as I spun around, crazily, swallowed up in the heat and mess.
Suddenly, I felt hotness traveling up my sides like the drink. I winced and spun around, met with scolding eyes that send coldness brewing in my lungs. I stopped, Demetrius's gaze roaming over my face as a cold roguish smile spread to his lips. The beat kicked in again, signaling everyone to jump into the tight groove. I felt as he guided my hips to the music, just like teaching a baby to ride a bike. I felt myself sticking into the rhythm, feeling his body towing alongside me, following me while instructing me.
It felt like I was falling through the sky, my body in a trance as I was lost in the ambiance and Demetrius. Both together were like a drink that sent me into such a fuss I could've fainted right there. I opened my eyes to lean into his gaze, mouth turning up into a crooked grin. Around us, everything seemed to vanish with a flick of his wings, enclosing us in darkness, hiding us from the world. I sunk into his chest, feeling the race of out heartbeats entwined into one song. I felt his lips pressed against my forehead and traveled like a teardrop down my cheek, circling around my nose, hanging teasingly over my lips. I growled frustrated, fighting against the better judgment that echoed in the back of my mind.
It was one leap. He was halfway. All I had to do was meet him the rest of the way or step back into the safe waters.
Did I want that?
Maybe I didn't want safe waters anymore and no doubt he would provide that. I gazed up into Demetrius's waiting eyes. I could tell he was going no further. It was my move or nothing. I felt the adrenaline pump through my head, plugging out my consciousness.
I leapt.
Our lips collided and the magic hovering around us seemed to explode into fireworks. Tingles like electricity hypnotized me and set me on fire as my hands climbed up over his shoulders and laced over his neck, hanging on for dear life, my legs no longer alive or functioning. For a second, I thought I was going to die from lack of oxygen until he broke apart from me, eyes sparkling, alluring, hungry, dark. My chest fluttered weakly as he lunged again, capturing me like a picture.
Demetrius took me into the darkness where I succumbed to the demon the beckoned me.
It was the sound of the blood pounding shrilly through my skull that woke me up.
My eyes weren't even open before a hard wave of nausea hit me and I was over the side of the bed, retching on to the floor. With a groan, I rolled over to the pillows, wiping the corner of my mouth with the back of my hand. My head swam horribly, but that wasn't the worst part.
This wasn't my room.
I sat up swiftly, met with such a strong wave of nausea; I gagged into my hand, but swallowed the bile that pooled in the bottom of my throat. Sunlight streamed through the closed curtains as I gazed around the unfamiliar room. Daggers and swords hung from the dark painted walls, glittering in the sunlight. In the far corner next to a small desk, there was a bookshelf stuffed with books and scrolls that looked hundreds of years old.
Where was I?
I gazed down past my wrinkled dress to the smooth navy blue covers. The pillows smelled with a musky boyish scent that I recognized instantly.
"Demetrius is going to be pissed when he finds out you've puked on his floor."
I jumped and looked over to Raven who stood in the doorway, dressed normally, with heeled hunter boots, her hair pinned up in a rigid bun at the top of her head. She stared accusingly with a hint of humor in the corner of her mouth.
"What happened?" I moaned, holding my head in my hands. "My head's on fire."
Raven crossed the room on the other side of the bed, avoiding the puke. "You were incredibly drunk last night."
I grimaced lying against the pillows, blinding lights flashing behind my eyelids. "Yeah, I feel it."
She giggled. "But from the result, my brother's sure brought you out of your shell."
"What are you talking about?" I demanded suddenly looking up at her from my hands. I instantly regretted it and held back retching again.
She played with the edge of the pillow and shot me a knowing look. "Naturally, I should be against it, him being my brother and all, fitting the part of the crazy overprotective sister, but I trust you enough not to break his heart."
I shook my head, trying to remember the broken fragments of last night's drunken riot. I remember the darkness of his touch and his kiss, chilling, but just as hot as a simple flame. I swallowed, glancing away, so Raven couldn't see how hard I'd blushed.
"You two were like hot and heavy on the dance floor—"
"Alright!" I bellowed, trying not to focus on how hot my cheeks were becoming just thinking about it. "I get the point. I must've been really drunk last night to have..." I drawled out feeling sick again.
Raven laughed and walked back over to the door. "Well, anyway, get up it's like four in the afternoon and clean up your mess, or I doubt he'll ever let you kiss him ever again.
