Demetrius saved some of his strength by cruising on top of the winds, his body tense as he carried me, but I could tell most of his effort was solemnly spent on keeping me afloat in his arms.
Relief flooded through me when the falls came into view. The fresh cool water beckoned us; through it I could see the secret opening to the Fallen mansion. I felt Demetrius hold his breath and brace himself as we dove through the heavy water downfall, instantly drenched. I gasped with surprise as the cold water met my face. Recovering from the cold blast to the face landed sloppily on the ground where I slid out of Demetrius's arms and on to the floor.
"Lilith! Demetrius!"
Instantly there were hands on me, pulling me up to my feet and I was forcefully greeted by Raven whose eyes bulged right out of her head looking from the two of us.
"Jeez, you guys had us worried when you didn't show up right away. We were almost gonna go looking for you."
Demetrius, behind her on his hands and knees, breathing hard, chuckled. "Worried over me again little sister?"
"You lost them did you?" said Lucien coming to greet us both. There was a cut on his cheek that spotted blood. I guessed he had an interesting greet with his guard as well.
I looked from Raven to Demetrius who was still on his hands and knees, shoulders stiff around his neck as he coughed violently, catching everybody's attention.
"Demi, you alright?"
Right on cue, he flopped over on to the floor with a moan and paled to an uncomfortable creamy white. Raven released me and dropped down to her brother, rolling him around, slapping his cheeks that lost all their color. "Demi? Lucien, get Alice, he's been hurt!"
Lucien hurried over to Demetrius, lifting him up and hoisting him on to his shoulders with a grunt and hauling him away. My gut twinged with worry as I watched them go, Demetrius hanging over Lucien's shoulder weakly, eyes closed as if he was sleeping, but I knew better.
Standing drenched in bloody wet clothes, I was getting the worst sense of déjà vu.
"Here, might wanna change into these."
I looked up to see Alice holding out a pair of new clothes in his hands. I forced a smile and took them.
"Thanks," I mumbled.
Alice sighed and sat down beside me on the bench as we both gazed at the setting sun that drowned down beneath the hills and mountains.
"He's fine, just so you know," Alice said very matter of factly.
Without having to say anything, I knew right then he was talking about Demetrius.
"But that's not why you're out here covered in blood and looking into the sky with that lost look on your face, is it?"
I felt my cheeks warm up as I chewed on the inside of my lip. I hated it when people guessed my emotions. I felt like ignoring him, but that felt rude. He hadn't done anything wrong. "You know, by now, I'm kind of used to being covered in blood."
Alice chuckled. "I would think so too."
Silence passed over us, but I didn't care. I felt as the blood began to become sticky and itchy against my skin. The idea of a shower crossed my mind, but I worried of what might happen if I got up or moved.
