Flying didn't seem to help clear the bullying thoughts that tormented my mind.
The round mysterious tablet hung heavily in my pocket, almost like it was begging to be recognized, its secrets to be revealed. The worst part about it all was that vexing feeling deep in my gut of how today hadn't been the first time I'd seen this artifact. I tried to remember where, but every time I tried, I hit this blank blockade almost like a stone wall inside my brain.
'It'll reveal their darkest secrets and all the answers you've been seeking'.
I could imagine the Council's kept certain things to themselves, little lies, nothing deadly, but what hung heavily in my pocket suggested the Council had hidden something a little darker with some size and that fact it involved me somehow made it all that more worrying.
With Avon in sight, it wasn't too long before I was suddenly greeted by three Council guards that swarmed me instantly, stopping me with their golden spears all pointed in my direction, the sunlight glinting from their matching golden armor.
"Halt!" they said in unison. Their strong russet wings sustaining their hovering with ease. "You may go no further, this is Avon territory, you may not enter."
"My name's Lilith, I'm second in command of the Guardianship and promised to high commander, Enrique Greyfeather," I said defensively.
Each of the Council guards exchanged wary looks before loosening their grips on their swords.
"Lilith," one of the guards drawled. "You have broken several Neuw angelic laws; the consequences for your crimes will be determined by the Council. Come with us." The guard moved aside and left room for me to fly onward towards the city with them escorting me.
I felt like a criminal as I walked through the corridors of Oura escorted by guards. I got bombarded with dirty scowls and glares as I passed through the Guardian's dorms, among the staring was Thor who gawked at me wildly and went racing off, probably to alert Gwen or even worse Enrique who probably wouldn't be too happy to see his soon to be mate facing criminal charges. I almost laughed at the thought of a wedding held in Avon jail dungeons.
We entered the Council's chambers with an echoing creak of the chamber doors. Inside was high Council Madame Dolorian whose back was turned to us as she talked to a man with long blonde hair that was pulled back into a tight French braid that lay flopped over his shoulder. His iridescent blue eyes flickered over her head to me and the guards almost looking irritated that we'd interrupted them.
"Greatest apologies, Madame Dolorian, but we've brought you Lilith. We found her arriving back through Avon borders," the guard closest to me said as he straightened from his respectful bow.
Dolorian's displeased golden gaze wafted past the guards to me where I saw the briefest sparkle of anger pulse through her eyes.
