It wasn't long before I caught up with Demetrius and Raven who'd made it halfway to Avon already.
"What did Alice have to say?" Demetrius said as he flew close to me, his eyes curious.
I looked at him, knowing the truth, that he'd promised to Falcon to keep me safe from the lie that proved to be ugly. I didn't hate him, I was glad nothing had changed.
"Nothing—just wishing me good luck," I lied.
Demetrius watched me for a second. I knew he could tell I was lying, but he didn't press the matter any further. A smile spread on his lips as he flapped his wings.
"You're not a bad flyer." He grinned wickedly. "Let's see what you're made of," he said as he quickly sped off right by Raven who looked back at me with a glare.
I laughed and sped off after him, showing him exactly what I was made of.
We approached Avon like a deadly change of season.
Raven and I took out most of the scouts that guarded the outskirts of Avon, while Demetrius flew above, making sure we weren't ambushed.
Shoving my blade into the last of them, Demetrius dipped down with us into the shadows of the streets and landing with us, eyes alert and weapons drawn.
I looked around, my stomach clenching as I gazed at my once called 'home'. It felt like it had only been a day since I was gone.
"Alright," Demetrius said straightening, searching along the streets. "We made it in, what's our plan?"
Raven giggled under her breath as she looked around. "I didn't even think we'd get this far!"
I bit my lip. Raven did have a point. Getting here was pretty easy—almost too easy. The guards proved to be a slight challenge, but we'd taken care of them.
"That's what I'm worried about. Getting in was too easy. You would think an angelic city preparing for war would have a little more security," Demetrius said, keeping his eyes on all directions.
I nodded, expecting someone to jump out from behind a building with a hundred Guardians with crossbows. "Alright, well I guess we start getting people out of here."
"That's gonna be hard considering people might be a little skeptical that the enemy is trying to get them up in the air. If we spook one of them, they'll raise the alarm and we'll be completely screwed."
"Yeah, Lilith. I doubt anyone here is going to listen to us, angels are prudes. They'll only listen to each other, and aside from your ex, no one is going to open their door to us," Raven said.
I blinked and looked to her. "That's it!"
Raven jumped and shushed me hard. I winced and hissed under my breath in a quieter voice. "I think I know somebody who can."
Quietly and sticking to the shadows of the streets, we made our way to the edge of Avon, through the little forest to a small little house that I knew too well.
I looked around, both Raven and Demetrius keeping a watch out behind me. Sucking in a breath, I rapped on the door with my knuckles and waited.
I few seconds went by before the light flicked on and footsteps came to the door. A petit girl with bouncy flowing blonde locks framing her round face opened the door, standing in her PJ shirt and short bottoms with bare feet. She grumbled and rubbed her eyes before letting out a frenzied scream.
I jumped shushing her, behind me, Demetrius and Raven ran up behind me, weapons up and ready.
"Gwen—Gwen what is it!" a voice said from behind her. Suddenly Thor, holding his own weapon barged past Gwen, standing in front of her in his own PJ's which consisted of jogging pants and a grey tank top.
He stood, frozen and gazed at me, jaw dropping open. "L—Lilith?"
I nodded and smiled, my gut twisting intensely as I stared at the two of them.
"Hey guys," I said.
They both gawked at me, with surprise.
"Lilith!" Gwen raced forward and threw her arms over me, her cheeks wet from tears. "Oh Jupiter, I thought you were dead—oh you've got metal wings!"
I chuckled and patted her gently on the shoulder, looking over to Demetrius and Raven who sent me questionable looks.
"Yeah—about that."
"But—but when that demon took you away—ek!" Gwen's eyes popped out of her head once again as she looked over my shoulder to Demetrius. "IT'S THAT—"
"Gwen!" I barked. "Its okay, they're okay."
"But he—"
"I know." I looked to Thor who shot Demetrius warning glares.
Boys.
"They're with me, please we don't have a lot of time and we're kind of wanted fugitives." I looked pleadingly at her. "Please, can we come in?"
Gwen stood there shocked and looked from Raven to Demetrius worriedly, Thor stiffening behind her.
"Well, I already feel like a complete idiot standing here in practically my birthday suit. Come on, before I freak out again."
