"Ushijima-san!!!!" Shirabu called as the ace was about to step out of the gym after the first trial for the first years for the volleyball club.

Shirabu was just a First Year back then, and Ushiwaka is in his second year

The left handed ace faced the setter.
"Yes?"

"I.. I'm Kenjirou.. Kenjirou Shirabu.. I'm a setter."

"Okay... So? Do you need anything?" the ace asked again

"I.. I want to toss to you!"

"Ohohoho. Is that a confession, First Year?" Tendou appeared out of nowhere, crossing his hands in front of his chest.

"Aaah.. No, Sir .."

"That's what it sounds like though" the official setter of the club stated, Semi Eita.

Shirabu awkwardly looked at the other second years surrounding him, then just bowed his head walking away from the gym.

"Hey! First year!" a voice called out and when Shirabu take a look, Semi is there running towards him.

"Yes, Sir?" Shirabu asked without looking at the other setter.

"So, you badly wanna set for our ace, ha?"

"What? No..." Shirabu lied as he stared at his shoes.

"Approaching Ushijima is a nice move though... Besides, I saw you playing during the try outs... You're good." Semi encouragingly said with a bright smile

"Why are you telling me this? I know I'm just a freshman.. and I wouldn't be able to be on the first six because someone better is playing as the team's official setter...."

"Don't feel bad about it... You'll get your chance... Anyways... Wanna walk home together? I believe, we live in the same neighbourhood, just few blocks apart." Semi said smiling.

Shirabu agreed, but they never exchanged words as they walked home. It was all silence until Semi said he's going ahead.

Kenjirou felt better knowing someone from the upperclassman believes in him, so he smiled a little and waved goodbye.

Shirabu is desperately wanting to prove himself to the coach, to Ushijima, and to the current setter how better he is at playing as the team's control tower.

Shirabu wanted to defeat the current official setter so he could play alongside Ushiwaka.

The next day, during a practice game, he had realized that Semi Eita... was the official setter of Shiratorizawa at this moment... so, even he considered this guy as a friend, he promised himself to beat Eita and show his credibility and skills to Ushijima.

Shirabu actually idolize the spiker he saw months ago during Middle School. More than that, he admire Ushijima each day as he conducts research about the left handed ace. Kenjirou just wanted to spend more time with the ace without realizing that Semi noticed everything..
