Safaya's skin felt like it was on fire.Every window was down in her car as she sped through the neighborhood. Her arms, legs, chest, even her hair all felt hot. Like steam was coming off of her skin. She took a long swig of the Jack Daniels she hid under the passengers seat. With everything my sister had been through, she had never in her life been as mad as she was right now.
Everyone should be scared.
Safaya didn't bother calling Nate to see if he was home. Maddy and Cassie were still at the blonde girl's home, she knew Nate didn't have a life outside of them. He would be home on a Saturday night. Her mind was racing as to how to approach this. The last time she confronted Nate about him fucking up, he assaulted her and destroyed her camera.
She didn't want to make the same mistake again, but, that same fear wasn't running through her. Any PTSD she had from being assaulted wasn't evident, it wasn't manifesting itself the way she thought. Safaya was unhinged and I think the only thing that stopped her from being a complete wreck was that she was driving our Dad's old vehicle. God, she missed him. She missed him for situations like this. Things that our father could have protected us from if he were still here.
I wholeheartedly believe Nate Jacobs wouldn't have had such an impact in Saf's life if our dad was alive. But he was gone. Dad had been gone for years now and Safaya couldn't dwell on that. At least not right now.
My sister had a basic plan of action. She just wanted Nate to be truthful with her for once. My sister didn't hate a lot of things, but, the biggest thing she despised was a fucking liar.
And Nate was at the top of her list.
It didn't take long for her to pull into his driveway, she was doing 50 in a 35. How she managed to not get pulled over was beyond me but luckily she was able to avoid the police. Saf hopped out of her car quickly, slamming the door behind her before knocking on the front door. She took another drink from the bottle in her hand, wiping the drops of whiskey with the back of her hand. She noticed Cal's truck and Marsha's suv was gone from the driveway and garage. It would just be Saf and Nate in the home.
The tall boy was taking his sweet time to open the door. Saf knocked harder the second time, knocks resembling a police officers.
When the door swung open, Nate immediately looked down. Softness in his eyes as he saw my sister standing on his front door step. "Hey, Sa—"
"Can I come in?" She interrupted rudely.
Nate moved out of the doorway. My sister stepping through the threshold and standing in the middle of the Jacobs' foyer. "I thought you would be at Maddy's party?" He said quietly. Noticing the bottle in my sisters hand but not saying anything.
My sister started laughing at him. "You know what? I thought I would be too. Actually, I thought my day would have gone completely differently." She shook her head. "But so far my sister relapsed, Rue and I had a fist fight and all this other bullshit. So I think, damn, well the hardest part of my day is over. And man was I fucking wrong. Because not even fifteen minutes ago guess what I found out?"
