My skin has always been a topic of conversation

More than I'd like it to be.

More than I'd like it to, my skin has been an object of hatred

Eyes full of despise for the hue of it.

Eventually making me despise the color

Wishing that my skin could be lighter

Wishing that my skin could be darker

Just so that I could have one less problem on my hands

Because the problem on my hands have been multiplied

Leaving me stranded with no one to turn to

Stranded with no place to fit in

Two polar opposites playing tug of war with my identity

The two opposites coming together in a time of vulnerability

My skin has always been a topic of conversation
