"I'd walk a million miles just to see you smile, 'Til the day I die. Oh, I need you by my side, we'd get high on life. 'Till the day we die" - High On Life, Martin Garrix

After what felt to her like hours, when in reality it was only a few short moments, the pair let go of each other.
„C'mon let's sit over there and catch up a bit," Charles said and gestured to the fireplace.
Fiona nodded and looked to the place next to her to see if the other two were coming with them, only to realize she and Charles were left alone by Elena and Pierre.
Looking around, she caught the eyes of the frenchman, who was now standing at the bar talking to some of her friends and shot him a questioning look, to which Pierre only winked at her.
She sighed. Pierre always teased her about her feelings for Charles. He was the only one who knew.
It wasn't because she told him, no the guy found out about it by himself and one night, having had a few too many to drink Fiona finally confessed it all to him.
She turned back around as she felt Charles hand on the small of her back, sending shivers through her body. He guided them to the sitting area and the pair sat down next to each other. Charles casually resting his arm on the lounge seat behind her back.
Even though he wasn't touching her anymore, it was still enough to make her mind go crazy.
„So, how have you been?", the boy next to her asked. It's been a few weeks since the pair had properly talked on the phone.
Fiona met Charles at one of Elle's birthday parties back when he was five and she was four years old. Charles was Elle's cousin.
Ever since that day Fiona and Charles were inseparable, just like Elle and Fiona were. They always hung around together, later joined by Celeste, whom Fiona and Elle met in pre school and Ben. One of Charles' classmates. Both of the boys being a year older than the girls.
They were a tight knit group, spending almost all of their free time together.
She missed those old days when everything was so simple. Everyone got along with each other. There was no drama, just five teenagers having the time of their lives.
When Charles started his karting career, Fiona and Elle were his biggest fans. Going to every race they possibly could.
Celeste and Ben weren't that much into it.Looking back, that was properly the start of it all going downhill.
Somewhere down the road Charles introduced her and Elle to his karting friends, Pierre, Esteban and Anthoine.
All of them got along really well, and even though all off their lives got pretty busy, they all put everything into keeping their friendships alive throughout the years.
„I've been alright. Nothing much changed since we last spoke, besides moving everything back to Monaco", she replied. „What about you? How's racing?"
„It's going great. I'm really confident with the car and that we can be really strong next week in France", Charles answered.
Fiona smiled, she was so happy for her friend. Living his dream, doing well. She was so proud of him.
In her mind, Fiona always knew Charles was really talented. So it came to no surprise when he got the call back in 2017 from Sauber, asking him to be one of their drivers for the 2018 Formula 1 Championship.
After a great first year with the team he signed with Ferrari, achieving his ultimate goal, driving for the Scuderia.
Ever since they were little, it was all he could talk about when asked what he wanted to do in life. „Drive the red car"
His dream growing into pure determination with every step he mastered throughout the years.
Even before joining the Ferrari Academy, before winning Formula 3 and Formula 2, she knew her friend had a special talent and there was no doubt in her mind, that eventually he would achieve the ultimate goal. She was sure, one day her friend would be a World Champion. And she was going to do everything she possibly could to be there for him, every step of the way.And boy did he look good in red, she thought to herself.
It was true though, and Fiona couldn't imagine him ever wearing any other team kit. Ferrari was were he belonged.
„I'm really proud of you", she told her friend and gave him a big smile, which he easily returned.
„Thank you, Fi. You know that means a lot to me", he told her. „I really hope, now that you're back in Monaco we can see each other more often again, maybe you can finally come to a race again?" , he then asked, carefully looking at her.
Fiona almost choked on her own breath. Of course she hoped to see Charles more. With his busy schedule and her studies, they didn't see each other a lot during these last few years and she was willing to change that now.
Speaking on the phone every other day and only seeing each other every few months was never enough for her.
Going to a race was a completely different story. She hadn't been to one in almost two years. It wasn't like Charles never asked. Pierre had tried to get her to come to a race as well, but she always declined. Coming up with reasons why she couldn't go, mostly because she had too much work to do for university.
That was what she told them, anyways. The reality was, Fiona was scared.
She knew, being back in Monaco she couldn't put it off much longer, but she hoped she had at least until their home race here in Monaco.
„That would be great", she told Charles „at least about spending more time with each other. I don't know about the races though I still need to get so much sorted out. I gotta find a flat for me to live in and I'll be starting work in my parents firm. I'm gonna watch it on TV, as always, though."
Fiona tried turning him down gently. Fumbling with her hands, she couldn't really look him in the eyes, not wanting to see the disappointment in his face.
His smile faltered for only a short second before his features turned soft.
Charles gently put one of his hands under her chin to make her look up into his eyes before he spoke.
„I know it's hard for you, Fi. It would really mean a lot to have you back with me at a race. With us I mean. I know Pierre an Esteban miss having you around as well. Please think about it, before you make up your mind."
Fiona took in a deep breath. Looking into his hopeful eyes, she couldn't bring herself to say no to him. Maybe it really was time overcome her fears.
„I'll think about it", she replied, before standing up and grabbing his arm. „Come on, let's dance. This is one of my favorite songs."
They made their way over to the dance floor and joined Pierre, Elena and Elle who were already dancing to the Kygo song that was blasting through the speakers.
She felt Pierre put an arm around her shoulders and pulling her close to her side. „You know, Fi. It's incredible how even after all of these years you never fail to look at him, like you wanna jump his bones", he whispered into her ear in a joking way.
Fiona lightly pushed him. „Shut up", she laughed „Don't let him hear you!"Fiona hissed and gave the frenchman a stern look.
Pierre just laughed „I'm sure he wouldn't mind if you did." Clearly he was already quite tipsy, she concluded and turned around to dance with Elle and Elena.
