Neither Fiona nor Charles said a word after she agreed on hearing him out. Fiona simply didn't know what to say, it was all very much overwhelming for her and Charles, he was too afraid to make a wrong move. To accidentally push her away even further.
It was the very last thing he wanted to do. He knew he couldn't afford to make another mistake.Fiona had been on edge the whole time he was sitting next to her. It was nerve wrecking to have him this close to her but yet so far away.
The worst part was, that even though he had her so on edge, a part of her liked having him close again and in touching distance. To be honest, it scared the hell out of her.
She was afraid of what the affect he even now had on her could do to her. It wasn't the plan to almost enjoy his company after she spent the last couple of weeks trying her hardest to not be near him and convincing herself that she would eventually be able to make it all work without his friendship.
‚Plans don't always work the way you want them to do', that's what her Mum had always taught her when she was a little kid, angry over something that didn't turn out the way she wanted it to.
Maybe it was time to remind herself of that again.
Still, she was glad when she locked eyes with Pierre about half an hour later. Until then she hadn't dared to.
In fact, she hadn't really looked at anything. She just stared out the large, full length windows and pretended to watch the planes that were starting and landing outside.
Pierre was still talking to Max and Daniel, but when she put her eyes on him, he started looking at her as well. It was almost like intuition told him that Fiona needed him to save her right now.He said something to the other two drivers, before standing up and walking towards her and Charles.
When he reached them, he told them that Max wanted to talk to her about his sister. Apparently she was looking for a house in Monaco for her and her family.
Fiona knew Max didn't say that. Charles probably did as well but that didn't stop her from thankfully taking Pierres out and from going over to the other two men.„Earth to Fiona," Daniel said, waving one of his slender hands very close in front of her face.
He was sitting opposite her on the plane, a table separating them. Max and Pierre were seated next to them.
„Huh," Fiona had to blink a couple of times to bring herself back to reality.
Daniel shook his head and laughed, when she finally came back to her senses again. „I asked if you wanted another drink. You're way behind."
„Sure, why not," she said, shrugging.
„What's got you so in your head? Is everything alright?" he asked, after he finished pouring her drink.
Fiona felt conscious. Pierre knew what was going on and now Max and Daniel were looking at her curiously. She didn't want them to know though.
It wasn't like Fiona to rely too much on others when there was something bothering her. She never wanted to burden anyone with her problems.Especially when there were kind of heavy and a little bit of a mood killer. She would keep quiet about it.
If she were to tell them, now wasn't the right time anyway.
Fiona reminded herself, that it was Max who needed a bit of cheering up tonight after his race came to an end early.Shaking her head, she smiled at the Australian. „It's nothing, I promise. I was just thinking a bit about life. We can't all be almost twenty four seven as cheerful and happy as you are, can we."
Hopefully, it sounded as light as she intended it to do.
„That's right," Daniel agreed and then shot her his signature grin. „But with me around you can be. Let's play a game of dares."
