"Sorry for being late. I got hold up by a call from my parents," the blonde Italian said as she approached Fiona.
„Don't sweat it," the other girl replied as she stood up to greet Elena with a quick hug. „I just sat down, it's all good."
It was Saturday, which meant it was qualification day here in Monaco. Fiona and El had managed to agree on seeing each other between free practice three and qualifying.
Both of the girls decided it would be best to meet outside of the paddock and team hospitalities and to just blend in with the crowds. Especially Fiona didn't want to draw attention to herself.
Fiona new from past experiences where a small coffee stand away from most of the action was located, so she proposed that they'd meet up there.Trying their luck to see if it was indeed not as packed as others were seemed to have paid off.
They found themselves surrounded only by a few elderly people who were enjoying themselves in a quiet surrounding.El got herself an iced coffee and sat down next to Fiona at one of the few tables surrounding the coffee stand. „This place is great," Elena said taking a look around. „Why haven't you told me about it before? I could have used the quietness on few occasions in the past. I love Monaco but race weekends are a lot here."
The brunette laughed at that „Tell me about it. Try living here, it's a whole different experience."
El shook her head. „Honestly, I wouldn't want to swap places with you. I'm glad Esteban and I don't live in a place as busy as this."
Fiona could understand where her friend was coming from. Sometimes it even got to too much for her. The lifestyle here, it wasn't an easy one. You had to love it.
Growing up here, Fiona didn't mind it as much. She did however enjoy every chance she had at winding down in England or Italy.Other people went to Monaco for a vacation. She just left it whenever she needed a little break or a breather away from home.
Taking a sip from her coffee Fiona looked at her friend. „I actually asked you to meet up because I wanted to talk to you about Esteban."
Her friend didn't look surprised in the slightest. „I figured as much after the other night."
„It seemed like you weren't surprised by their behavior," she stated. „What is going on between him and Pierre?"
She saw the blonde girl sighing, before she run a hand through her straight hair. „I'm not even sure. I don't think they'd be able to say what's really going on."
„What do you mean by that?"
„They never really had a real fight or anything. I think they've both been on a personal mission to prove themselves to the world. It's like their heads got wrapped up in the rivalry and their both to stubborn to let it go."
Fiona listened closely as the other Italian spoke. Rolling her eyes, the blonde added „Not that there really is something to let go in the first place."
Trying to wrap her head around what she just heard, Fiona didn't really know what to say. She was stunned.
Ever since she had known the two Frenchmen they had been really good friends.
Of course there always was some natural rivalry as they competed in the same sport and categories, but she never witnessed them letting it mess with their friendship.
