Chapter 7
I'd never been drunk before, but that's how I felt right now. I felt dizzy, my vision disoriented. A rush of heat was flowing through my body. And I felt... amazing. Like I could do anything. I wasn't worried about Daniel and what he'd do if he found out. The only thing I wanted at that moment was Liam. To pull him toward me and be happy, for once in my life.
Then the whole world came crashing down. I couldn't do that. Breaking up with Daniel would practically be my death sentence. I crumbled to the floor, not wanting to walk to the couch. I leaned my head against the wall and let out a deep breath. I shouldn't have done that. I knew I shouldn't have. I just created more drama and stress than I already had to deal with.
My phone vibrated in my pocket, and I almost banged my head against the wall as I jumped up in suprise. I pulled my iPhone out of my pocket warily to check the caller ID. Daniel. Not wanting to make him anymore angry at me then he already was, I slid the lock screen tab and was instantly connected to a chilly voice.
"Hi," I said, trying to keep the worry out of my voice.
"I didn't see you at lunch," he replied immediately. I could imagine him sitting in his dark bedroom, using a knife to clean out from under his nails. Wait. Those were bikers. Never mind.
"Yeah, I didn't feel well so Kelli and I stayed in the bathroom in case I got sick." I made my voice sound weaker, as if I really was sick.
"Well I'm glad you're not," Daniel said, but his voice contained no sympathy.
"Mhm," I muttered, sitting down on the red love seat near the TV.
"The football game starts at 7:30, I expect I'll be seeing you there?" he asked, apparently attempting to be casual. It made me feel as if he'd yank me from the stands and throw me in the middle of the game just to watch me be ripped apart by huge varsity football players.
"I guess so," I said softly, not seeing a way around this. Maybe I'd get a ride with Kelli and stay with her. I sighed as I remembered Kelli was a cheerleader and would be on the field too.
"Why did you sigh?" Daniel asked suspiciously. Oops.
"Just wondering what I'm going to wear tonight," I told him vaguely, getting up and walking towards the stair case. It was already 6:45, so I decided I should start doing my hair and getting some presentable clothes on.
I hung up about five minutes later, and by that time I had laid out a neon pink tanktop, some short white shorts, and some white sandles. Remembering the school colors were red and white, I swapped the pink tanktop out for a red one.
With my car still in the shop, I decided I might as well start walking to the football field, which was located, for some odd reason, at the middle school instead of the high school. It also added a fifteen minutes extra to my walk. It was humid outside, but thankfully I had used a lot of frizz cream in my hair, so my hair was still strait as a stick.
My phone began vibrating, and without looking at the caller ID, I yanked it roughly out of my pocket and shoved it deep into my purse which hang over one shoulder. I wasn't an idiot. I knew it was Liam calling me, and frankly, I was still too worked up over his brief, maybe three minutes, period at my house a mere half hour ago.
By the time I had paid seven dollars for admission into the stadium, most seats were taken. As I walked along the bottom to the stairs leading for the top, Kelli came to the fence and rattled it to get my attention. "Hey," I said, stopping for a moment and leaning over the fence five feet above her to talk.
"Hi," Kelli said, then she pointed to the pair of the stands at the thirty yard line, whereas I was at the fifty five line.
"British hottie over there. He came over here and asked where you were," Kelli explained, putting her arm back at her side. I sighed, and I felt myself blush.
