Chapter 13

It was oddly quiet, from both Liam and Daniel's sides, over the next three weeks. I still spoke and laughed with Liam, but he seemed somewhat more cautious, as if Daniel would appear out of no where with a shotgun and shoot him for being with his girlfriend. Daniel, on the other hand, hadn't abused me these three weeks. My body looked completely fine for the first time in ages.

On Saturday, during late October, about a month after meeting Liam, we went to the movies in a theater an hour away. Daniel was at a championship football game in another state, so I assumed we were good. Though I was technically still with Daniel, Liam was the other part of my life. We were basically a couple, though not a public one.

And I really loved being with him. He was the most perfect and amazing human being I had ever met. He brought a sense of security to my horrifyingly dramatic life. We were sitting in the back of the theater, our hands intwined on the arm rest in between us. The movie was some comedy, though with my sense of humor, it wasn't very funny at all.

Liam brought my hand to his mouth and kissed it gently. With Daniel gone for a few days he seemed more comftorable, like me. He wasn't scared of Daniel by any means but he had told me he would always be cautious for my sake. He hated seeing me hurt.

I smiled at him in the darkness of the movie theater. When I declared halfway through the movie it wasn't worth watching anymore, I got up and we walked into the family bathroom together. He lifted me up on the sink and kissed me passionately. I kissed back hungirly. Just the thing about being this close to him made me sink right into the palm of his hand.

I felt Liam smile during the kiss and I wrapped my arms around his neck, which was right around my head, considering he was seven inches taller than me. I broke away, breathing heavily, and Liam tilted his forhead towards mine and rested it there. His brown eyes looked at me the way no one had ever looked at me before.

"Thank you.. for everything." I whispered. In response, Liam kissed my neck gently. I tried not to express how good it felt coming from his mouth. After five minutes, we decided we couldn't keep the door locked anymore, and I grabbed my purse and we walked back out to his car. "Dinner?" he asked me, I shook my head. We were near Riverside, right beside the ocean. "Can we go to the beach?" I asked. Liam smiled and nodded, put the car in drive, and drove calmly into the city.

The beach was breathtaking, and since it was 7:30 and the sun was setting, it made it even prettier. Liam grabbed my hand and we walked hand in hand down the shore of the beach. It was chilly outside, but I was still tempted to take of my converse and walk barefoot through the cold water and damp sand.

No one was on the beach, because, like I said, it was a little cool outside. I jumped onto Liam's back and he caught me effortlessly. My legs wrapped around him, and I hugged his neck tightly. His hands were under my thighs, supporting my small weight. I rested my head on his shoulder as we walked down the beach. My weight did nothing to stop Liam.

I pressed a kiss to his cheek. I almost completely had forgotten I had a boyfriend, or whatever you'd call Daniel. Suddenly images of him beating Liam and I senseless because of Liam and I's relationship flashed across my mind. I jumped off of Liam's back, and walked nervously beside him. "What's wrong?" he asked me, looking over cautiously. "Nothing, I'm just tired." I lied. Liam could tell, I knew. "Want me to drive you home?" he asked. I nodded slowly.

The drive back to San Diego felt longer than normal, but I barely spoke the whole time. The whole time I had spent with Liam and practically being in love with him like I was supposed to be with Daniel, and I had never thought of what would happen to both of us once Daniel found out. Daniel had a whole football team to back him up. I had Liam, and that's it.

Liam dropped me off in my driveway, and it was one of those rare occassions my parents were actually home. Liam kissed my cheek, and I opened the door and walked into the kitchen, where both of my parents were sitting and reading books. "Hi, Chris." my Mom said, barely glancing up. "Hey," I said, going to the fridge and getting a water bottle.

"Where've you been?" Dad asked, laying his book down and taking a sip of what seemed to be coffee. Figures. They didn't even know. "The movies with my friend." I told them shortly, taking my keys out of my purse and putting them on the rack. "Oh," was all they replied.

I shrugged and walked out of the kitchen. My bedroom was dark, and I turned on the light to reveal the mess I had left in my rush to get ready earlier that day. I got a pair of boxers and a tank top and walked into the bathroom to shower. The warm water on my skin made me sigh with relief, since goose bumps had been all over my arms.

It took me a good forty five minutes to blow dry my hair and put it into a braid to sleep in, and tugging one of Liam's sweatshirts over my head, I finally was able to lay down and watch TV. I settled for Cabin Fever on Syfy, but my concentration just wasn't there. I couldn't help but wonder what Daniel would do if he found out about Liam and I.

I wouldn't put it above Daniel to kill us both. He was adored by teachers. His parents were high up in our small town on the outskirts of San Diego. No doubt there would be some way he would get off with a minimum of five years in prison for killing two people. He would claim it would be self defense no doubt.

Silence from him was worse. He was evil and twisted. Those always had the worst minds. He was probably sitting in his hotel room right now somewhere in Washington state, or wherever he was, plotting to do something. It terrified me.

I turned off my TV and unlocked my phone. Liam had sent me a heart. I smiled but didn't reply. I opened up Twitter and was in the process of going down my timeline when a new message popped up. Nervously, I opened it. New Message from Daniel: You better start being good. Just think of what I have in mind for you when i get home.

Sunday morning came too early. Or maybe that was because I'd gotten no sleep at all last night. Daniel's message had scared me, and I was waiting until at least ten so I could jump into my car and not care who saw me throw myself into Liam's arms. Right on the dot at ten, I grabbed my keys, my hair still a mess and still in boxers and a tank top. I slid on some Toms and ran out the door.

My parents only watched me leave in silence. No good byes. No 'where are you going's. I ignored that and pulled out of the driveway. The streets were nearly deserted, as if was Sunday morning. Liam's car was in the driveway, but not his parents nor his two sister's cars. I walked up the drive half timidly.

I knocked on the door three times, and waited a minute before the door opened and Liam stood in the doorway, his hair a mess like mine and only in some black shorts. "Christina?" he asked, his voice tired. He opened the door a little wider and allowed me to walk under his arm to get inside. "What's wrong?" he asked.

I took out my phone and showed him the text from Daniel. Liam put an arm around me and started the process of making coffee. "Did you reply?" he asked. I shook my head, picking up the piece of cinamon toast he laid in front of me and took a bite of it. He set a pot of coffee in between us with two mugs.

"Don't worry about it." he told me softly, glancing at the message again, which was pulled up on my phone still. I looked up at him. "How can I not Liam? If he finds out.. about, you know, us, he'll slit my throat." I said, my voice quiet. Liam put his hands on top of mine. They were warm and assuring.

"He can be stopped somehow." he told me. I was about to reply when my phone started vibrating and I glanced nervously at the Caller ID. "Hello?" I answered, my voice shakey. One of my hands were still under Liam's. "Get to my house. Right now." a growl came from the other end. It was Daniel, and he didn't sound happy.
