Chapter 12
I don't remember falling asleep that night. All I knew was that I barely got any sleep and woke up Monday morning with deep and noticeable bags under my eyes. Yawning, I put on a pair of track pants and a black t-shirt. My converse lay in the back of my closet, so I put them on, put my hair up in a bun, and headed out the door.
As October dawnedcloser, I experienced my first cool morning in a long time. I pulled my hoodie over my head and walked carefully down the driveway to my car. Inside, the air felt compacted, giving me the idea that I was horribly small and was going to sufficate. Suffication had always been my worst fear in terms of dying, so I rolled down the windows as a raindrop fell from the sky.
Sighing, I turned on the heat and rolled up the window as a steady drizzle started. There was no traffic on the way to school, since almost everyone came later than I did. It was only 7:05 when I arrived early at school. Realizing Mrs. James wasn't yet in her classroom, I headed to the library to check out a book we were supposed to get over the weekend.
I sat against the bookshelf, holding two possible choices in my hands. The first one was Twilight, which I always thought of as very descriptive but repetitive. The second one was a book called Fallen, which sounded somewhat creepy. I chose Twilight.
By 7:15 Mrs. James was in her room. I entered. "Good morning, Christina." she said. She sounded exhausted. Probably from partying all weekend. Just kidding, she's like fifty. "Would you like a muffin?" she asked, gesturing to a box with half a dozen blueberry ones. I gratefully accepted, having not eaten breakfast.
I ate in silence at my desk, which was close to her's as she began sorting through papers. Students were starting to arrive judging from the noise in the hallway, but none from this class yet. "Did you get a book for self reading? I'm expecting journals for every three chapters on them." Mrs. James said sternly, seeming to finally get herself in order. I held up Twilight and she nodded approvingly.
Two girls whom I never really talked to came in and took their normal seats in the back of the room. They both shot me nasty looks. Funny how I always got those for dating the beautiful Daniel Richards. I almost laughed myself to sleep knowing they were jealous.
Liam entered next. He was wearing a gray shirt that outlined his abs, and a pair of jeans that fit him perfectly. I carefully avoided my eyes. Knowing I'd already kissed him, and told him he would get his chance, made things between us incredibly awkward. He sat down and pulled out a Harry Potter book that he must've gotten for the self reading. I couldn't help but smile. We shared similar interests.
"Twilight, I see." he said smoothly, as if we were just two English partners who never spoke anywhere but in class, and only ever formally. I nodded. I could see his book cover clearly now, and it was the last one, The Deathly Hallows. "Great book choice." I said, equally as polite. The corner of his beautiful mouth pulled upwards into a smile. "Thank you, gorgeous." Way to make it harder than it already was.
By then the class was almost completely full, and when the 7:30 bell rang, Mrs. James shut the door and told us to read our books the first thirty minutes of class. Several people groaned. "I let you pick out these books yourselves, I would hope you picked one that actually may interest you." the teacher snapped. This was why I admired her.
After school I drove to the store to pick up a few things my parents requested. But not before I could escape Liam cornering me by my car after Daniel and his friends drove off. "Where are you going right now?" he asked me. His brown eyes glowed as if he'd never wanted to be with anyone more in his life. "The store." I told him, putting my bags into the passenger side, putting my hood up to shield myself from the light rain.
