Chapter 25

I woke up suddenly the next morning, breathing unevenly. Where was I? This isn't my bedroom, nor Liam's. It wasn't until I heard voices that I remembered: I was at Kellin's house. Without actually, meaning to, I started listening to the conversation that was going on near my bedroom door.

"I'm not saying it was a stupid decision, Kellin, but I'm.. I'm having second thoughts. We have honestly no idea who she is." I heard a female voice, obviously Julia, saying. Kellin sighed. "What do you want to do, dump her out on the street? She looks and sounds miserable, Jules, and I know you actually have a heart." he shot back.

"Okay, then do you know why she ran away? Her last name? Where she comes from? She didn't sound like a southerner." Julia snapped. "She's.. she's from California." Kellin replied quietly. I could almost see him rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly while staring down at his girlfriend.

Julia was quiet for a long time. "All I'm saying is that we should, you know, get to know her. Then decide if she can stay here a little while longer."she finally said. I heard a long breath- obviously Kellin exhaling a long time.

I decided it was best now to get up. I slid my legs out of bed, onto the soft carpet, and walked to the door, softly opening it. Julia was still standing there in her pajamas, arms crossed, while Kellin had left. She turned quickly and saw me, smiling kindly. "Morning. Did you sleep good?" she asked. I couldn't tell if her smile was fake. "Yes, thanks." I replied, somewhat returning the smile.

"That's good. Breakfast?" she said, turning on her heal without an answer and walking down the spiral staircase to the kitchen where Kellin was. He was in black skinny jeans and a lose white shirt. "Good morning." he said immediately when he saw me. Julia looked awestruck. "Kellin, do not tell me you're wearing those clothes to work." she said hotly, her hands on her hips.

I could see the tension in their relationship already. Had I caused this? Or had it been there already? I bit my lip as Kellin shoved his chair back from the table and walked out of the kitchen without another word. Julia huffed and turned to me, smiling apologetically. "Sorry, it's just so hard explaining to him he actually has to dress up in the business world."

Without saying anything else, she turned to the counter, grabbed a knife, and started finely cutting apples and oranges. She proceeded to make toast, and finally after pouring two cups of coffee, breakfast was served. She sat across from me, her thin fingers wrapped around black coffee.

I nibbled at my toast as she watched me. "So, Christina. I feel like we should get to know each other. Let's start with.. three things each." Julia said after a moment. I took a sip of coffee and nodded. "Okay.. let's see. My full name is Christina Lily Young. I'm from San Fransisco, California, and I have a.. boy friend named Liam." I concluded. I didn't know why I included the boy friend thing.

Julia nodded slowly, processing the information. "Okay.. My full name is Julia Amelia Brooks, I'm originally from Manhattan, and I'm actually a professional writer." she then told me. I raised my eyebrows. "Seriously?" I asked. Julia blushed. "It's a lame career, I know. But it's how I make money." I shook my head. "I think it's a great career. I'd love to read your work." I assured her.

Julia smiled as Kellin walked back into the kitchen in black slacks and a blue button up shirt. "As long as we're talking about facts, I'd like to say my three things. My full name is Kellin Andrew Underwood, I'm from Los Angelas, and I'm also a writer." he said. I tried to hide my shock. "You're a writer, too?" I asked. Kellin nodded.

I honestly felt kind of intimidated. Obviously these two were smart people. I felt so dumb. "Okay, well now I must be getting to work." Kellin said. He smiled at me, kissed Julia's cheek, and left. Julia blushed as she looked back at me. "So, what do you want to do today? I have the day off."

I shrugged as I finished my coffee. What did I want to do today? Honestly, all I wanted to do was sit here and think. I wanted to call Liam and talk to him, and hear his voice. I wanted to check out where Daniel was, so I could be prepared for anything that was coming at me.

"I honestly just want to relax today, if that's okay. It's been a stressful few weeks." I told her. Julia nodded knowingly. "I'd imagine so. Well, I'll be in my study, which is down this hall, if you need me, all right? Help yourself to anything in the fridge or pantry." she told me, getting up and heading towards her study, closing the door behind her.

Picking up both our plates and coffee cups, I went to the sink and rinsed them off. After I finished, I walked quietly back upstairs to the guest bedroom, closing the door behind me. "Sing me to sleep.. Sing me to sleep.. I'm tired.. And I.. want to go to bed.." I sung softly as I curled up on the big bed.

It was nearing nine am, but I was still so tired. I wanted so badly to just go to sleep and not wake up, but that wasn't an option. I couldn't do much until this was all figured out, I guess.

My phone vibrated, and I gulped. But my anxiety was quickly turned into fear.

Daniel: Well, well, well. I heard little Christina ran away. Your boyfriend's pretty broken up, as far as I have heard from my sources. So, where is my supposedly "girlfriend"? I say supposedly because you've obviously left me. Hey, its cool. But when the moment of truth comes, it's down to me who stays and who goes. Remember that, okay?

My breathing quickened. How had Daniel known I had left California? Was it already on the news? Were people becoming desperate to find me? I was in fear and I was anxious. Maybe if they did find me, I could go into witness protection program. They would have to bring Liam, too, considering he was such a big part of the situation.

I turned on the TV, to the news. I groaned immediately, not happy with what I saw.

"Here is the girl's picture.. Her name is Christina Lily Young. She's seventeen years old and has black hair and bright blue eyes. Here is her apparent boy friend on what the exact events are.."

My heart nearly stopped when Liam's face appeared on the TV, filled with sadness. My breathing too stopped when he started speaking.

"Christina.. she suffers hugely with depression. If you find her, do not confront her. She shuts down if you confront her. Also, everyone should be on the look out for a man named Daniel Richards, and his partner Tony Martin. Daniel himself has been abusing, raping, and hurting Christina for a year, and the two recently killed Tony's long time girl friend Kelli. They're dangerous. Please find them, before they can also hurt Christina. Please, please, contact the San Fransisco police if you find Christina. Her family and I are getting desperate."

I barely noticed the tears streaming down my face as I quickly turned the TV off, not wanting to hear anymore of it. So, it was true. The police were looking for me. And for Daniel. My heart was breaking from Liam's voice and how sad he had looked.

A knock on the door brought me back into reality. Quickly wiping my eyes, I called out softly, "Come in." Julia stood in the doorway, looking at me dead in the face. "Christina, why were you on the news?"
