First author's note! Okay so Liam's new phrase thing is "sing me to sleep", which is the name of a song by Emily Browning. If you haven't listened to the song yet, please search it on YouTube or you won't really understand the meaning behind what Liam is saying. Please and thanks!
Chapter 24
The rain was falling steadily by the time I had finally walked out of the Atlanta airport. My head was hurting and my heart ached. All I wanted now was to be in my own bed, maybe with Liam as he held me in those strong arms I had begun to crave.
I watched, sad, as I saw all of the people who I'd been on the same flight with leave with loved ones or in an arranged pick up from a taxi. It made me feel more along than I already was.
I decided my best option would be to sit here until I made a plan. I walked over to the sitting area and plugged my phone charger into the wall, and hooked my phone into it. I waited impatiently for it to finally turn on.
Right as it did, I regretted ever plugging it. It vibrated non stop with texts from everyone.
Liam: Still looking.
Liam: Where the hell are you? This isn't funny.
Mom: Christina, you better get home.
Liam: The police are out looking out for you.
Dad: Is it so hard just to come home?!
Liam: Isn't she lovely, isn't she wonderful? Isn't she precious?
Liam: Remember when I sang you to sleep? I miss doing so.
Mom: I literally can't stand this, baby. Come home.
Liam: Sing me to sleep....
My heart felt like it was ready to explode out of my chest. 'Sing Me to Sleep' had always been one of Liam's songs he would constantly sing to me.. The memories of him doing so all came rushing back. We were in the park one night picnicking, when I laid on his chest, smiling into his shirt as he rocked me, singing 'Sing Me to Sleep'.
I didn't even notice the tears dripping down my face until one fell onto my hand. I quickly wiped them from my eyes before anyone could notice. I exited out of my messages and stared at my phone, wondering what I could do to pass the time.
I waited about thirty minutes first, just so my phone was charged enough so that I could take it off the charger. I then hoisted my book bag higher on my shoulder, slipped my phone in my pocket, and left the airport.
It wasn't raining hard, but there was a steady mist taking place. I put my head over my mess of black hair, and started walking into the rain.
Since it was late afternoon/early evening, there was a steady flow of traffic leading away from the airport. I figured my best bet would be to follow the cars, getting me back into an area with food and shelter for the night. I almost shuddered at the thought. I was homeless.
Several people eyed me strangely as I walked my their cars while they were stuck behind a red light or just heavy traffic. My feet began to hurt after almost an hour, but at my pace, I didn't expect to reach downtown Atlanta for a while. How far away was the airport?
My question was answered when almost a minute later I spotted skyscrapers and buildings and best of all: a McDonalds.
But the tall McDonalds sign was at least a mile away. And by how sore my feet were, I probably wouldn't reach it for another half hour. My stomach growled loudly and I sighed miserably, but kept on walking.
The sun had set ten minutes ago, so all I was getting by on was the headlights of cars, and the occassional street light. The traffic flow had lessened as people rushed home in the light rain to spend time with their families. I felt abandoned.
