Liam was asleep when I walked back inside, so my immediate reaction was to stand guard over him. Daniel had tried to get sympathy out of me, which he should've known wouldn't happen. I hated him with my entire being, and just because he didn't want to go to jail didn't mean I would feel bad for him. I would rather die than do that, and at this point, death seemed welcoming.
I was lost in my own thoughts that were racing a million miles an hour in my head, so I didn't notice when Liam woke up. He was staring at me intently, obviously worried. "What are you thinking about?" he asked softly, taking my hand in his. He was so cold it was terrifying. Forcing a small smile, I told him casually, "Nothing's wrong."
Liam let out a long sigh but didn't push the subject further. "If you wanna talk, I'm here." he said, rolling onto his back with a wince. I knew he was in pain but he would never admit that to me. He was supposed to be the tough boy friend who always protected me, but I knew him better than anyone. I knew he was hurting.
Everything was silent for a long while, much to my dismay. I hadn't heard the boys who had left return yet, which slightly confused me. Shrugging it off, I quietly laid down beside Liam, smiling when his arms wrapped around me.
I hadn't realized I had fallen asleep until the next morning apparently when Daniel came in to tell Liam and I to come eat. It seemed slightly odd, that our kidnapper was offering us food, but seeing how weak Liam was, I knew he needed the food and nutrition.
The breakfast consisted of cereal. Kellin and Tony were sitting there quietly. They looked as if something was either wrong, or they were planning something. Either way, I didn't feel comfortable.
Liam ate slowly, and he looked like with every swallow he was in pain. I placed one of my hands on his knee, rubbing it slowly. Everyone was quiet, and there was not a sound outside the small cabin either. It made me nervous, but I didn't know exactly why. Probably because I knew if something bad happened people weren't around for miles and miles, and we were too far away from anyone that would hear a gunshot.
Liam gave up eating about halfway through his bowl, which made me bite my lip. He looked so thin it was sickening, probably because I was used to a muscular Liam, one that made other boys look absolutely weak. But now the sides were turned, and I knew Daniel could take Liam down as easy as breathing.
After we were done, I carefully helped Liam back to his spot, giving him my blanket and thin pillow, knowing I wouldn't need it. "Christina, can you come here?" someone asked from the doorway. I stiffened at the sound of the voice, since it was Kellin's. I looked at Liam, who hesitantly nodded. I knew he needed sleep anyway. I got up slowly, following Kellin. Daniel eyed us curiously when we walked out the door but said nothing. He knew I wasn't leaving, simply for the fact Liam was still here.
Sighing quietly, I realized Kellin was taking me where Daniel took me. He wasted no time. "Julia's funeral was today." his voice was somewhere between grief and anger. I felt my chest close up at the mention of Julia, but said nothing as he went on. "The police know it was me. They're looking for me." He was staring at me but also beyond me, his eyes looking a million miles away.
"I don't think they'll find you," I said thickly, folding my arms. I wasn't necessarily angry at the poor guy since he was just following Daniel's orders, but that didn't make it any better that he had killed an innocent girl. Then again, he was supposed to be trying to kill me..
Kellin leaned against a tree. "Okay, now I need to tell you something. Listen carefully, okay?" he said, looking at me. I raised an eyebrow but nodded. Kellin sighed loudly. "We're not letting you die," he said plainly. I opened my mouth and closed it. "Who's we?" I asked carefully. "Tony and I." Kellin replied. I didn't know what to say for a long moment.
"How do you plan on doing that?" I finally asked. Kellin wrung his hands together, obviously distraught. "Tony is leaving tonight. He found a house maybe ten miles away, and he's going to get there. Everything is happening tonight, okay?" Kellin said. I paused. "Please, explain this to me." I didn't understand, but a tiny part of me was desperate to try to so I could get away.
Kellin began explaining. "An hour after Daniel goes to bed tonight, Tony is leaving. It'll probably be about midnight when he does, and it might take him four hours to get to the house since it'll be dark. From that house, hopefully the people will be willing to help. Our plan is to get the cops out here, getting you and Liam to safety."
This was too good to be true. "Will that even work?" I finally asked, trying not to get my hopes up too high. Kellin nodded. "If it doesn't, and Tony isn't here by six, I'm going to distract Daniel while you and Liam get in the car and drive away as fast as you can." Kellin explained. I bit my lip. "What'll happen to you?" I asked him. I knew I shouldn't care about him, but I still did. He swallowed thickly. "You'll see."
I stood there quiet for a few moments, taking this all in. Liam had two days after today, so if this didn't work, Liam would die. Finally I nodded. "Okay. I understand." I told Kellin. He nodded. "Be prepared to die, just in case." Kellin smirked, so I knew he was joking. Smiling slightly, i said, "I've been preparing for that for a long time."
