Mayas POV
•€•
February 22ndI've never dealt with Gabby after a breakup. After a breakup with someone she actually cared for and trusted. Yet, the situation doesn't seem foreign in the slightest.
She seems like Gabby. Same ole Gabby.
She's been going about her regular schedule for the past two weeks. Work and home.
She's not half as happy as she's been in the last six months but she doesn't seem to be bothered either. That's the vibe she's been giving off.
I let out a breath and open her door. I expect her to be sleeping. It's too early for her to be awake.
I enter and she's occupying a space in the middle of her sofa. Diamond is cuddled beside her and Gilmore Girls is playing on her TV.
She doesn't even look up until I close the door.
"Hey, baby." I smile. She meets my gaze and offers a shy smile. My poor baby.
It's been two weeks since she had last spoken to Jordan and even though she wants to seem like she's alright, I can see right through her.
"Hey," she replies, her voice soft. Like she'd been crying but it's hard to tell with her. She isn't s morning person and with it being just after 8, I don't know what to expect.
"I got hella food from P.F.Chang's, come eat wimme," I say, as I place the bag on the table, emptying the food and her favorite lettuce wraps.
Diamond believes the invitation is for her and moves towards me hastily. I shoo her immediately.
"Get yo ugly ass outta here," I whisper. Gabby looks back at us and chuckles with a slight mug on her face.
"I'm not hungry," she says getting up from the couch and heading to the bathroom.
I let Diamond out back while she's gone. I'll never get use to this dog. I take the time to plate food for us both. She has to eat something.
I hear the sink turn off and look up to see her walking out of the bathroom drying her hands.
She walks over to the trash and disposes of the paper towel before walking over to me and wrapping her arms around me, placing her chin on my shoulder.
"What is it?" She asks, peeking over my shoulder and into the bag.
"Exactly what it looks like, smartass," I chuckle. I want to hear her laugh at least once more. She seems out of it today. Almost as if she knows the news a found out a few days ago.
She couldn't have. There's no one to tell her. Maybe she can feel it. With a relationship like theirs, I don't doubt it.
Jordan was the first real relationship she's had since high school. The first person I've seen her trust. The first person I've seen her think about constantly. The first person I've seen make her so happy. The first person I've seen her love, even if she hasn't admitted it to herself yet and I've only seen her cry about it once. Not seen but heard because she confessed. But it's hard to believe.
I'm just waiting for her to break and hoping I'll be able to comfort her when it happens.
"Here," I say, handing her plate and plopping down next to her. She rolls her eyes but complies. Good because I didn't plan on backing down.
